Customer Reviews

Good blocksI like how these blocks look. My son seems to be enjoying them, though he isn't learning much from them at this point. He has a lot more fun over-turning the wagon and emptying it of the blocks, so it is a great toy to keep him entertained. The blocks and the wagon appear to be of good quality, and look as if they would last a long time (though as another review mentioned, the string on the wagon is too small). They are of good size and won't pose a choking hazard to small kids. The colors on the blocks are attractive and the pictures would keep the kids engaged. My main complaint about them is that I constantly keep worrying that my son would hurt himself if he accidentally trips and falls on one these blocks. The edges are slightly blunted (rounded), but not enough to avoid injury if someone falls on them. I also noticed a slight splintering on one of the blocks, but I don't want to send the whole thing back because of one minor flaw on a single block. However given that these blocks are double the price of other blocks on the market, I would have expected Uncle Goose to be much more careful about their quality control. 1 star off for that and the not-blunted-enough edges. Otherwise, these blocks are great! 4Exquisite Blocks; Wagon Makes Nice StorageI've had my eye on these blocks for quite some time, and finally decided to purchase them for my youngest, who will be two early next year. As expected, these blocks are exquisite, classic, and heirloom quality. The embossed detail on the front and back of each block is really fantastic. The wood is beautiful, the designs on the sides are nice - uppercase alphabet on two sides, stamped in bright red, the other two sides are dedicated to animals and numbers and are both a deep blue. There are four colors on the embossed sides; orange, yellow, blue and green. We simultaneously bought the lowercase set of these blocks, and I mention this because a really cool feature is that for each of the adult animals in the uppercase set there is a matching baby animal in the lowercase set. So if you decide to buy both, you get the added bonus of a little game of match the mama (or daddy) animal to the baby. There are even some unusual pairs like a tadpole and frog and a butterfly and caterpillar. What a well-thought-out and fantastic tie-in between these two sets! With all the letters available on the uppercase alphabet set (it essentially has the full alphabet 4 times over), kids will have the opportunity to make plenty of words as they enter that phase. Younger kids will enjoy building with something that is so brightly-colored and fun to look at. And with the safety standards of Uncle Goose - and, of course, the fact that they are made in the US - I don't think you could possibly go wrong with this or any other set they offer. And they have a lot of cool options. I had trouble choosing.Anyhow, the wagon, which has gotten lukewarm reception with some reviewers was not originally going to be part of my order, but it happened that a combination of sale prices vs. non-sale prices made it seem silly not to buy the wagon; it only cost me an extra couple of bucks over what the blocks alone would have been. And for that price, I am definitely pleased with it.However, I can understand the negative reviews of it. The wagon is more a really cool way to store these blocks, and less a really cool wagon by itself. Mostly, this is because it is small, as would be expected (13. 75" x 8.6"). It stands a mere 2.6" from the ground, and only has a depth of 1" in the block compartment. It seems sturdy enough, which is good, because my girls seem to like the idea of sitting in it. So far, it's holding up. They also enjoy toting toys and blocks in it a bit too. Also, of note on the wagon is the pull string and the ball that is attached to it. The pull string itself, presumably in an effort to comply with CPSC rules (all pull cords must be 12" or shorter) to prevent strangulation hazards, measures about 9-10". This is really really short, and it was frustrating the heck out of my 95th percentile girls. They would have had to walk about on their knees. The ball at the end, which measures about 1.25", is a choking hazard, whether its becomes detached or not, without supervision. We ended up removing the ball, and replacing the nylon cord with a similar one, about 2 inches longer - which still meets CPSC standards while making the wagon functional. It's not a difficult fix to do yourself, and it's really a necessary one if you want this wagon to do anything but make the kids angry.Bottom line: I wouldn't totally discount the wagon. My kids really seem to like it. If the price is right and you've got a clear idea of what you're buying it's a fine accessory to the blocks. The blocks are worth every penny no matter how you package them. I'm so pleased to have found such a high quality toy made right here in the USA! 5Amazing blocks for your baby! These blocks are amazing and I love the wagon it comes in. It is a great way to store the blocks that is attractive and easy. All the blocks came in good condition, though the box was a little tussled. My daughter loves them though, she stacks and sometimes bites (which I don t recommend), but all in all these are a timeless and good looking addition to your child s play area! 5Awesome set of blocks!I sent these as a first birthday present for my little neice. She just loves them! She and Daddy build the towers and she loves to knock them over! They are a very nice quality with great details. They type you can pass down to the next few generations if you wanted to. And the little wagon is great to pull them around in, to store them in, or to build in! My brother told me that he and his wife were very impressed with the quality of this set! They were delivered on time, packaged well and look even better in person! 5Beautiful, but strangely expanding blocksThese are beautiful blocks and I love that they have a cart to put them in, my twins love the cart too. Unfortunately for some strange reason, after they were opened, the blocks seem to have expanded because they've never fit back into the cart after that initial time right out of the package. So we always have 4 wayward blocks about after we've put them away. Still they're gorgeous blocks. If there were some way to fix the cart issue I'd give them 5 stars. But they're pretty pricey for blocks, so it's a shame to have this problem. 4Children love it & mom does too!Love this block/wagon set. A family member purchased a cheap block set for my son as a Christmas gift last year(he was 2 1\2.) When he opened the blocks he was excited as ever but I as soon as the plastic was opened the smell of chemicals filled the entire living room/kitchen. I immediately tried to change his attention to another gift as I threw the blocks outside in the garbage. After a couple days of him asking about his blocks I began my search for safe and non toxic blocks here on Amazon and these are the ones I decided on. I'm so glad I did. When we opened these there was no chemical smell whatsoever. They were nice quality solid wood blocks which my son loved even more than the last because this set had a wagon! I recommend this to anyone that is rightfully concerned about the safety of their children's toys. 5Worth the money!I was really hesitant to pay almost $50 for a set of blocks, but I splurged and spent the extra for the wagon set. I am so glad that I did! Not only is the wagon a toy by itself, but it is a cute way to store the blocks at the end of the day. These blocks are made in the USA, which was really important to me because I wanted non-toxic paint, and they are VERY well made. I love that they have animals and numbers as well as letters. My twins are only 18m so they don't yet understand how to stack blocks, but they love to throw them and bang them together. I can see these being used for MANY YEARS to come! You could even practice math because there is an "+" "-" and "=" block. I will also use them to teach animals--such as "bring mommy the duck, bring mommy the frog..."My only complaint is that the wagon is way more shallow than I thought--I uploaded a picture to show you what I mean. It barely holds them in, and I wish it was deeper. I also wish that there were more embossed sides because I do worry that the paint will eventually scrape off after years of use. 5Beautiful, heirloom blocks and wagon! Buy them!!!These blocks are absolutely gorgeous! Every block was meticulously made, and you could see the care that the artisans took. I love that it has a safe ink stain with bright colors, so I m not worried about my 15-month-old twin grandchildren playing these, and sometimes putting them in their mouths. I m trying as much as I can to avoid purchasing any toys for them made in China, as even if they claim to be safe, I just don t feel like I can fully trust their claims. Thanks for making this truly heirloom set of ABC blocks and wagon. Be sure that if you purchase the capital letter block set to also get the lower case block set as well! What a great way to teach spelling and grammar when the twins get a little older! And the animal drawings on the capital letter blocks are of adult animals, with baby animals on the lower case block set! How cute is that! The only thing I found necessary to change slightly is to put a longer cord on the wagon. It is so short (9 ) that no child, even a toddler, can pull it! I ve already bought a number of additional sets...Christmas, 2018 will be one full of block fun, for ALL of us! 5These are beautiful well made blocks with lettersThese are beautiful well made blocks with letters, numbers, colors, symbols, and pictures of animals. My 22 month old granddaughter enjoys identifying the animals and stacking the blocks and then knocking them down. Eventually she will be identifying the letters colors, and numbers. As a grandparent and early childhood educator I know that letter identification and letter sounds are the first critical step in reading readiness. The wooden wagon is a handy storage place for the blocks but also serves as a nice container for patterning and sorting activities. These blocks will provide many learning opportunities for my granddaughter as she continues to grow and develop. 5Very tight fit!I LOVE these blocks, but for the price the quality control should be a little better. My blocks barely fit into the wagon. It is frustrating for me as an adult, but my son will need help to get them out when he is big enough to enjoy them. I ordered the same set back in 2012 and they were perfect...i wish I still had that set. 2
