I don't think he understood the strategy of this game, but he will as he grows up. 5Lots of fun! Also very attractiveThis is now our GO-TO game after Sunday brunch. Lots of fun! Also very attractive. We actually leave it out as it looks that nice.Worth the money for so many hours of engaging play. It isn't hard to learn but the (short) rule book can be a bit cryptic. I just interpret them the way we decide together and play on!I have no children but found this game searching for S.T.E.M games to play with my wife or guests. It is a bit like chess in the fact you can plan and predict moves, but with a much more simple learning curve. It should be fine for kids BUT THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SMALL PIECES.I highly recommend this game! 5decently fun, but poor build qualityOver the last few years, I've been on a big wooden game kick. I love pretty much everything from Gigamic and Fundex, and thought I would give Cathedral a try.Overall, I can't say I'd recommend Cathedral over any of the Gigamic games, mainly because of the extremely poor build quality. Many of the pieces weren't at correct 90 degree angles, and so they had trouble fitting into the board with the rest of the pieces. The wood and lacquer are rough and a bit shoddy. This, compared to the immaculate sculpted pieces that came with Quoridor, Pylos, and other games makes this a bad deal. The game itself is a good concept and pretty fun, but doesn't really hold up to repetitive plays. Then again, many of these games aren't things you can play 20 times in a row, so it's good to have a variety of them around. 4AgelessMy husband introduced me to this game while we were dating 26 years ago. After having eight children, the pieces to our original game disappeared long ago. While browsing on Amazon I happened to find Cathedral again and popped it into my cart (much less expensive today than years ago too!).My older children remembered playing this through the years and were excited to have a complete set again. The younger ones are already hooked on on the game.Someone reviewed this game and said a cheaper version can be found in blokus, but I disagree as we have both games. Cathedral is smaller, 3 dimensional and takes more foresight to place the pieces (there are fewer pieces so you much choose each one wisely and not try and "make up" a bad placement later).Cathedral is also wood, which just plain feels better when you're playing with it compared to brightly colored, thin plastic tiles. I personally like the 3-D feel and look as I'm gazing down at the game - it gives a different perspective and it feels like your brain is very active while playing.Someone else mentioned it doesn't have the endless movements like chess does. I guess you could say that, but this game is not chess! You can't compare the two realistically as they are obviously very different. One game of chess can go on for long periods of time. Cathedral usually takes 30 minutes to complete which is ideal for most people and you don't feel bogged down in a game that never seems to end. For children or teenagers (who have a shorter attention span compared to adults) they enjoy this game because it can move quickly and they are often able to play several games in the time it would take to play one good game of chess. What I like most about Cathedral is that you must plan ahead, you must try and fit the pieces you have in your possession into specific space requirements which allows for critical, logical and abstract thinking all at once. 5Nice game in vintage wood piecesThe game arrived in the time expected and in condition stated. There were three pieces that were separated at glue spots, but these were easily fixed. We will enjoy this challenging and, yes addicting, game with each other, children and grandchildren. The price was very reasonable for the quality of the game board and pieces. This game is recommended by me for anyone who wants a game that can be played easily in 15 minutes or so, played with only 2 players, and provides endless options for strategy. The rules are relatively easy to learn and play proceeds quickly with time for conversation during the game. It is also a game for most any age - elementary on up - a good one to have in your game closet. 4Fun GameThis is a great edition of the game! The pieces are solid wood with a smooth glossy finish on the stained pieces. The center-piece (the cathedral) is painted gray. THe printed squares on the particle-board playing surface don't always line up with the actual placement of the wooden buildings, but it's close enough to help you see the general shape of empty spaces and where you might play next. 5A wonderful game for all agesThis is just a beautifully designed game. The wood pieces feel substantial and are nice to hold, as is the wooden board. The rules are simple to learn but the strategy involved makes in challenging. I recently played it with a 10 year old boy who is addicted to video games and he loved it. It's nice to find a game that can pull kids away from electronics. The entire game takes less than 5 minutes to play, so you can play it multiple times in one sitting with children or adults. This gives everyone a chance to win at some point assuming the players are somewhat equally matched. Even a new player catches on to the strategy fairly quickly, especially if you explain it to them. We've had this game probably for over 20 years and it's a family favorite. 5As good as I remembered itThe quality of this product was very good, and it arrived in a timely manner. The wife and I had borrowed this game from a friend a few years back, and were sorry to give it back, because we had such a blast playing it. I saw this on sale, and just couldn't wait any more. It's good to be able to get back to this little gem. Perfect when there's only 2 players and not that much time. 5Good challenge, fun for the family.Great game, family likes it a lot, my 8 year old really enjoys it. Only 2 players at a time but fun to watch others play and pick up some tips. Wood is made well, impossible to get the plastic covers back on it once you play it (pieces have to line up exactly) but not a big deal to us, it all fits in the box without it. 5Fun quick strategy game!I bought this game for my husband for Christmas and we have had loads of fun playing it. We both like strategy games, and Cathedral is fun and fast -- gameplay lasts maybe up to 10 minutes, but there are many different strategies to employ, making mini-tournaments interesting. It is also a very attractive coffee table piece!Only problem -- because they are wood and not molded plastic (which is nice for a change) the pieces can come apart. We thought at first that the two sides had different pieces because one had come unglued, but we were able to fix it easily once we determined the problem. All in all, a fun game, even for grownups! 4
