Customer Reviews

Like the texture better than its standard cousin, smell a little offputtingThese are great playing cards. As I wrote on my review for the standard Copaq type, after comparing several plastic cards (including the overpriced KEM, which aren't really plastic, BTW), these are my favorite. I actually wish the standard Copaq cards had the texture of these, which is a tad less aggressive, and I prefer -- still good for preventing slippery handling, but less noisy when rubbed together. The one significant minus is the smell of these cards, particularly the deck with black backside. Someone has recommended washing these in warm soda water, and I might try that. 4Very good cards, but one notch below Da Vinci. These cards are very nice. They are the first plastic cards I've ever bought. I will not use paper cards in a Hold 'em game at my house ever again. I will occasionally buy the "specialty" paper Bicycle cards (ie: Alchemy, Karnival), but only as novelties, not for game use.Da Vinci comparison:Compared to Da Vinci, I would rank them half a star less. If I could, I would give these a 4.5 star rating and the Da Vinci's a 5-star. The difference comes down to personal taste. The Da Vinci's are slightly stiffer than the Copags. The Da Vinci's have more of a paper feel on the backs than the Copags, and about the same feel on the faces.Positives:As with any plastic card, these are washable. If beer or greasy fingers or even pizza - whatever gets on them, just fill the sink with soapy water, and throw the whole deck in. Gently wash and dry each card. They come out like new! And they last a LOT longer than any paper deck. Once you get a set of good plastic cards, You won't be hurrying to buy another plastic-coated paper deck.Negatives:The Copags STINK out of the pack. Literally! Some kind of plastic/chemical odor. I just washed them two or three times in soapy water and the odor goes away. The odor will also fade after a few hours of use. The Da Vinci's I bought did not have this problem. It may have something to do with the manufacture process or the ink used. Some people have complained that the Copags get dirty faster than the Da Vinci cards. I haven't seen that happen, and we've played probably 200-250 hands with each deck. Beer has been spilled on both, with no staining, etc. Just clean as mentioned above. The two-deck hard case for these decks is nice, BUT, it doesn't fit nicely into the typical chip case. Those chip cases are designed to hold single card boxes. I had to buy empty card boxes to put each deck in, and not use the double-deck hard case that they came in.Overall:Great value. These will probably outlast paper cards 10 to 1. The finish is great. No printing defects have been found yet, nor do I expect to find any. Cards are not scratched from dropping on the floor and scraping up, despite my abrasive ceramic tile floor. I only wish they had more back designs available in the Poker-Size. They seem to have more varieties of the Bridge-Size. 4There is not one bad thing i can say about these decksThere is not one bad thing i can say about these decks. They shuffle well. I have both kem cards and copag. I like the price of these. I cant comment on fading and if that happens I will update my review. I like the feel of kem cards better but that is personal preference in my opinion. These cards will last just as long as kem cards. You wont go wrong with either brand but if price i your limitation, get these cards. If it comes down to feel i would go with Kem.Update: On the second night of playing with them. Two of the cards chipped. I am very disappointed as I like the feel and texture of the cards. So did everyone that played as well. 3Excellent performance and well worth the price!I purchased these cards for a Texas Hold'em tournament I was hosting as part of a bachelor party weekend. Many of the guys had never played with 100% plastic cards before, and couldn't believe how much better they are to play with. They are more flexible to shuffle, smoother to deal, and all around a better experience to play with. They don't bend or crease like traditional cardboard cards, and can be wiped off or even washed in soap and water should anything spill on them. These perform as well as KEM cards at half the price. I highly recommend the extra investment over a traditional cardboard deck. 5Best deal! Pardon the pun!Very well priced, but extremely durable. Not a thick as some plastic cards (a good thing, as some decks are difficult to shuffle when too thick and slippery). I own 2 sets (one nearly a year old with MANY hours of use in a larger stakes game and one for a small stakes home game) and neither has shown any wear or deterioration. We used to wear out a pair of regular poker decks in a single session, but now we don't. I don't anticipate needing another set for quite awhile, but when I do these will be what I will order. 5BEAUTIFUL design, buttery smooth shuffles, perfect price point. 10/10Nice and large. Print is bold and easy to read. The cards feel super silky for easy shuffling, but they don't slide around more than I like them to. Although they do slide just a bit at first, they only need a little breaking in before they feel just right. I've played various TCG's, and occasionally some Hold 'Em for over 10 years now, and this is the nicest feeling shuffle I've felt by far. I can't imagine how or why someone would be willing to pay almost double for the KEMs. I'm sold for life on the Copags until further notice.Update: they only downside so far is the toxic plastic smell but it wore off after a hundred or so shuffles. 5Company replaced ASAP!I like the feel and quality of the cards; however, after playing with them the first time one of them became "sliced" in the middle. So that made the entire pack unusable. However, the company was great at replacing the pack immediately. I received the new set within 5 days even though I took 3 days to package and return the old one. The company sent a postage prepaid form so I wasn't out any more money to send them back. Hopefully, the new pack will stay in great condition. I just hope my poker game is as good! 4YOUR QUESTIONS: Is plastic really better than paper? Are Kem cards worth it?Plastic vs Paper: If you're going to play a game every week with your friends, I think plastic cards such as these are definitely worth it for various reasons. If you have food and drinks around, you'll eventually spill liquids on the cards and the paper cards will get ruined. These plastics just need to be wiped off. Also, marks will eventually appear on the paper so people will know what specific cards you have. Plastics can get marked too but not as much. So, if you're going to play a lot, definitely get plastic. You'll just end up buying another paper set as your first one gets ruined.Kem vs Copag. Right now, Kem cards are about double the price of copag cards. Are they worth it? No. If money is tight, then there really is no valid reason to get Kem cards. Kem cards might feel a little better and have a better design (subjective), but actually play is unaffected. So, if you have the extra $15 because you want a prettier set, get the Kem cards. If you're frugal, get the Copag. No practical reason you shouldn't.Customer Service. Copag's customer service is STELLAR. If you mention that there is something wrong with the cards that came with the set, they will immediately send you a replacement cards within a couple of days. I was pretty surprised that they got it to me pretty fast. (maybe 3 days).*My experience: I've used both copags and Kem cards for years. Actually, decades. They are both great cards. I believe Kem cards have been around for longer and that's the brand that every poker player knows of. In my personal opinion and many others, Kem cards might a little better but it's not worth the extra dollars.*If this review was helpful, please click that it was helpful. (I'd like to know if my reviews help anyone.) 5Amazing customer service from Copag and love these cards!Takes a very short while to get used to them when you're used to shuffling traditional playing cards, but once you get the feel for them they are just plain awesome! They hold up very well and do not bend out of shape with use. I've even gently washed decks in soapy water, rinsed them off, dried them off, and they're like brand new. Had 1 card each in 2 different decks, purchased years ago, that ended up getting a tear at a corner...more like a plastic splitting than a paper tear. Called Copag, rep asked for the number on the Ace of Spades from each deck and which card was damaged from each. Mailed me out 2 new replacement cards and a postage paid return envelope to send the damaged cards back so they could be evaluated for quality control. Amazing! Wouldn't waste my time on standard playing cards ever again! 5Best cards everThese are easily the best poker cards I have ever come across. I host an all-nighter home poker game at least once a month and I have been using the same set for over a year without the cards showing any significant wear or losing their flatness, springiness, or slick coating. This contrasts with Bicycle card sets which I had to change out every ~3 months. In terms of overall pricing they probably come out to about the same since a 12-pack of Bicycle cards is $15-20, every similar to the Copags; the 12-pack (6 sets of red/blue) lasts about 18 months, so if this set holds up for that long, the price point is about even. On the other hand, these cards have a much better "hand-feel" compared to Bicycle cards, so even if a single card set doesn't last as long as 6 Bicycle card sets, it's still worth the money IMO. 5
