    Good quick casual entertainment with a bit of subterfugeThere's a lot of game in a little box here. I haven't played the card game version, but this game has been a hit with my group. Nice well-engraved dice, nice cards that fit standard sleeves - and I do suggest sleeving them, so the cards don't get marked and no one ever knows what they're getting.The 4 roles and the many character cards, with their abilities, add enough strategic variation that the dice never fully control the game. The meanings of the dice are also printed on several cards, which can be given to each player as a quick reminder of what they can do.The tokens are good quality for what they are, with a nice texture/finish, but I really wish the box had a neater way to store them. I had to micromanage the box's contents to get everything back in there neatly. But it's a minor gripe.Compared to other dice/card games, it's a bit pricey, but worth it. High production value in all the components. It's made me want to try the card game version too, so it's left me wanting more in a good way. 4A quick and fun spaghetti western with some neat features.I'm the "game guy" in my girlfriend's family. I'm always bringing new games around to try when we all get together. When I heard about this game, I had a feeling it would go over well. I was not disappointed.It's fun to roll the dice and to take shots at other players. If this was all you did, I would still consider it a fairly fun game. What really brings this one home are the roles that each person has. One person is the sheriff, and there are deputies, outlaws, and renegades of varying numbers depending on the number of players. The sheriff is trying to be the last man standing (if he can keep the deputy alive, that's nice and all, but they both win even if the deputy dies and the sheriff is the lone survivor). The outlaws win if they kill the sheriff before they all bight the dust. The renegade wants to take out the sheriff, but only after the outlaws are eliminated. So, the outlaws are shooting at the sheriff and deputy, the sheriff and deputy are trying to take down the outlaws and the renegade, and the renegades are trying to kill everyone. The twist? The only role whose identity is revealed is the sheriff. The rest are a secret. So...are you shooting the deputy or an outlaw? You have to figure that out as you play, which is a blast. In my first game, I was the renegade, but had the sheriff convinced I was the deputy...his face at the revelation of my betrayal was priceless.In addition to roles there are characters in the game that give each player unique powers. This adds another little twist and a bit more depth to the game.If you have a group of 5 to 8 friends to get together and play this game with, I highly recommend getting it. Rolling the dice is fun, the light social deduction from the hidden roles is a great feature, and the character powers add some light strategy. 4Need a lighter, shorter game in your collection? Consider Bang! The Dice Game.I initially bought this game as a birthday present for a friend. He loves westerns, so I searched the internet for well-rated games with western themes. Bang! came up in my search results, but pretty much every review said that the dice version of the game was the way to go for being simpler and faster, but just as fun. While I've never played the original card-based game, this game has proven to be what was promised. Given the low price, I ultimately bought a copy for myself.When a lighter-weight, fast-play game is required, this is the type of game you want to reach for. Just don't expect it to serve in a game-night role and you'll be all set. Given its short play time (the longest game I played lasted *maybe* 30 minutes), and simple mechanics (roll dice > keep or re-roll dice > apply results to chosen target player), this is the ideal game for a medium-sized group of people (4-8) of mixed ages, abilities, attention spans, and gaming interests. I have played it with regular gamer-types and non-gamers, and after a round of play, literally everyone was able to get into it, and figure it out. I have played it with every possible number of players too, and while it works ok with 3 (the rules actually change to accommodate this), the game really starts to shine around 5+, given the hidden-role mechanic. As you might expect, more players increases the game's length, but it's generally short enough that you could potentially play it multiple times in one sitting. That's actually a cool feature in my opinion, since the same could not be said of any of the other games I play. I generally prefer long-haul games with a bit more complexity that last a few hours, but I still really like Bang! precisely because it's *not* that, but is still really enjoyable; it just fits a different role. The one person I encountered out of 20+ who didn't like it was another regular gamer who thought it was too "basic". While this is a valid opinion, the game never claims to be a serious game for "real" gamers. I see it more as a gateway game that can bring non-gamers to the table, or satisfy gamers who are lacking in time and/or space (the box is less than half the size of a shoebox top - travels well!).So if after reading this, you're still not sure about getting this game, watch a short video review of it on youtube to help make the final decision. If it still looks even a little interesting to you, then just buy it. There really isn't much to lose. 5Bang! Card Game vs Dice Game ComparisonAs a huge fan of the Bang! card game, I recently purchased and started playing the dice game, so I thought I'd shed some light on the differences. I've had a lot of friends be confused / borderline frustrated learning their first game of Bang- longer games = more investment, more replayability. Prepare to budget up to an hour for a game.- more options & slower turns = more strategy. If you like games that you have to think about, the card game is better for this.- hidden hands / cards = more intrigue, harder to guess people's roles because you can't tell what their options are. If you like the hidden identity aspect, you'll probably prefer the card game.The Dice Game- easier to learn, BY FAR. There aren't a hundred different cards to explain, there's just six possible dice rolls.- shorter games = great for parties, not great for regular gamers. You don't have to ask people to commit to a full hour, dice games generally only take 15 minutes or so. Because of that, don't expect to play this dozens of times with the same friends, it's just not as replayable.- fewer options & faster turns = easier to keep people's attention. Again, great for parties.- public dice roles = less intrigue, since people's strategies are pretty obvious. There's also a bigger chance component thanks to the dice rolls, so there's more excitement in the moment (and more shared excitement, since everyone is watching the rolling).In conclusion, if you're looking for a game to dive into with the same group of thoughtful friends, you're better off with the card game. The dice game is better for parties where people don't want to learn new complicated rules, and families with younger children w/shorter attention spans.I hope you found this helpful! 4Fun gameI enjoy this game with friends and family. I've played the card game for 8 years.I think modifying some of the rules for both works out better.In this game, you are forced, at times, to shoot those you'd rather not (unless I misunderstood the rules). Making this optional made three game more fun. I still think Vulture Sam needs to be killed off. He's never used in either game for us.The arrows can be a major pain in this game and there's not much to do about it. Making a way for these to be removed by some other way aside from the 2 cards with special abilities would be great.Making the dynamite take off more seems necessary as well.Overall, it's pretty fun. It's not as skilled based as the card game can be, but if you house rule the option of not shooting, it'll be a lot more fun. 4Fun game for a groupOne of our older kids brought this to play for the Christmas holiday. We have 4 kids still at home and I enjoy playing games with them. The younger 4 (ages 13-16) loved it so I ordered it for us. Sometimes it's hard to find ones that 5 or more can play. We played with 5, 6, 7 and 8 players. The game was more challenging the more players we had - it took a bit longer and was harder to figure out which players were on your side, but it was fun no matter how many played. I believe the maximum is 8.I ordered it late afternoon on the 27th and received it in the afternoon mail on the 29th. I really love Amazon Prime. 5We played with 6 and 7 players adults and older aged kidsWhen we first played this it was with someone who knew the game really well, which I'm sure helped make it more fun.We played with 5 adults and an 8th grader the first time and and 5 adults and a 7th and 8th grader the second time. We had a blast both times. I'd estimate that both games lasted around 30 to 40 minutes and went around the table several times.While this game is probably not politically correct, it did give us a chance to discuss the implications of the problems with that, and discuss history at least a little bit.The game itself was loud and fun and a little bit hilarious when the sheriff accidently killed one of her deputies. I purchased it this week because my kids were dying to play it with friends at their party.I don't know how much fun this would be with a smaller group, but with a large group it really was a lot of fun, and I'd recommend it. 5Fun family game. Plays quickly and almost no setup is needed.This is a really fun and simple game. Almost no setup time (a few seconds) and plays quickly (5 people may take 15 mins per game). It's like a cross between poker (bluffing) and Yatzee (dice rolls to get combinations of items). The one thnig to be aware of, and this probably is obvious from the name and the box cover, is this is a cowboy game and the goal is to eliminate the other teams by "shooting" them. If you don't like gun related things (e.g. bullets), dynamite, cowboys, outlaws or native Americans (Indians? can we say that any more?) shooting arrows at cowboys, this isn't going to work for you and stay with "G" rated games. If you're ok with these elements then you'll enjoy this game.The idea, in a nutshell, is to eliminate the other plays who aren't on your "team", but exactly who is in your sights depends on which team you're on and the strategy you're playing. The Sheriff and vice sheriff try to kill all the outlaws, the outlaws try to kill the sheriff and vice sheriff and the Renegade tries to get the other teams to kill each other. The trick is, everyone knows who the sheriff is, but no one knows who anyone else is. You roll the 5 dice and get one of several 'actions', a bullet, health, dynamite or an arrow. The bullet (1,2, or 3) allows you one shot 1,2 or 3 players away, the health restores 1 point of health. The arrow is collected from the arrows pile, which, when exhausted means you have to calculate your health damage for the arrows (1 arrow collected usually means 1 health point taken away). Roll the dice (up to 3 times per turn) and take you shots. And that's basically it until one of the 3 teams wins. Oh yeah, one other detail. Each player will have a randomly chosen character card, in addition to their hidden team card. The character card tells you what your abilities are. This means you might get an extra health point each turn, or you might only have 1 arrow damage, regardless of how many arrows you got on your turn. Things like that keep the game interesting.Kids 7 or 8 and older can play along with adults and everyone will have a good time. 5Make BANG! Your New Party GameNothing bad can be said about this dice game. I've heard plenty of mixed reviews from the card game, but this dice game is fun and easy to learn.I would highly recommend BANG! for parties of any kind. I have a group of friends that don't really like games, but they always ask if I brought BANG! with me.This game is special deduction meets last man standing. Incredibly easy to teach and a lot of fun for how basic the game is.Made some drinking rules where if you get shot you take a drink. Made for a very fun night.To overview: sheriff and deputies want to kill renegade and outlaws to winOutlaws will want to kill deputies and sheriff to winRenegade needs to be the last man standingOnly the sheriff is known in the circle, everyone else keeps their role to themselves.Can't recommend this game enough if you're looking for something more involved than Exploding Kittens or Cards Against Humanity. Drop them cards and give BANG! a try partner. 5In the Wild West, Trust No One! ;)I was an outlaw, My friend sitting next to me said "Don't shoot me, I am on your side." *wink* *wink* So naturally I pumped my friend full of lead because I thought she's a sheriff's deputy trying to pose as an outlaw. Turned out (after the game) she indeed was on my side. Oops, talking about sending deadly mixed signals. Maybe I was a bit too trigger-happy. But oh well, it's the wild wild west after all.As luck would have it, this move covered up my true identity as an outlaw, and fooled the sheriff into thinking I am one of the good guys, one of his deputies.The sheriff was almost dead, and I was almost dead too, with a third guy shooting at both of us. I threw a one on my dice, I could heal myself back to 2hp, and take a chance to see if I survive the next round.But I healed the sheriff instead, "never break character durin an act", as Dr. King Shultz once said to Django (the d is silent), a valuable lesson indeed.When sheriff rowed his dice, he got a three. And he healed me back to 4hp. "I am counting on you buddy!" Sheriff said to me. "Thanks Sheriff! You are the true hero!" I replied.Now fully confident that I have enough health, with the big wonderful smiles still on both of our faces. I shot the sheriff dead. The sheriif falls, with such a puzzled look on his face. Oh the sweet sweet taste of deception and betrayel.One of my most hilarious board game moment ever.--------------The rules are simple to learn, took me about 15 minutes to totally get into it. Grab some friends, you will have a total blast! 5
