... Beginner Compound Microscope Kit My 7 year old twins love it! The day after their b-day they both ...Bought with - AmScope M30-ABS-KT51 51-piece 300x-600x-1200x Metal Frame Kids Student Beginner Compound Microscope KitMy 7 year old twins love it! The day after their b-day they both got their own "samples"; to include; a dragon-fly's wing, some algae on bark, a wild strawberry, a dead ant, a leaf, and some other bits and pieces that we need to cut up :)The fun we're finding about this mechanism is that the fun keeps going on. Look above . . . then; During winter we're gonna be able to hatch those brine shrimp and other bits we find outside in the winter months of the S.Western Winter storms of VA.It's not the best but it's certainly the medium my husband and I were after for our high energy life-minded kids of 7 ON the day of May 29th, 2008 . . . :0 4Great value for your young scientistFantastic add-on gift for the microscope we gave our nine year old daughter for Christmas. The microscope came with some ready to prepare slides, but it definitely added a layer of excitement to have some ready to view immediately. I later added a wooden slide sorting box which you can find here on Amazon for approximately $10, to keep track of her collection. Great value, love the color coding and labeling. Fast way to get your young scientist (or yourself) started examining the microscopic world. 5Great learning item for my 6 year old, which will be relevant for years to come.Bought these for our 6 year old daughter. She may not understand what she is looking at all the time, but she enjoys looking anyhow. This set is sturdy enough that she can use them by herself, but she frequently asks questions about what the specimen. Great learning item for her, which will be relevant for years to come. Perfect for my application however I would not expect too much use for a teenager or for somebody with more experience or understanding of microscope usage. 4just not a very good specimen selectionSome items are crushed, grasshopper leg specifically, just not a very good specimen selection. Medicines, vitamins in chunky pieces, not thin slices - very hard to view for a low magnifying 1st learning microscope. Coke, tea, other liquid lopsided in glue, fibers (lots) also not in the framed view made it hard to single out one or two for focus. A few items were ok. Nothing to write home about. I thought my son would be over the moon with the extras but I watched as each slide, one after the other, turned into a heap of disappointments, which --- admittedly-- was not my best 'mom' moment. 2Great SlidesI wish in the picture they would actually show you it in the packaging because it looks way better in person. This came with a neat mix of fun things to look at under a microscope. My six year old daughter received a microscope for Christmas, and I don't think her interest in it would have gone half as far without this to compliment it. I can't find any cons with this, all of the specimens were intact, the slides are great quality, and the grasshopper wing under the microscope is AMAZING. I think I may have had even more fun with these than my daughter! Would definitely buy the other variations of the same brand. 5Not compatible with GeoSafari Jr. Talking MicroscopeBought these as "suggested" by Amazon to accompany the GeoSafari Jr. Talking Microscope. However, they are small specimens that don't look like much under the microscope and are not compatible with the talking portion of the microscope. These are pretty much useless for us. Beware!! When I attempted to return, I found out they are non-returnable, which is not listed anywhere in the product description. 2Great for the priceWe got our child a microscope and of course you need slides. These are inexpensive and fun. They are plastic so there is no danger of broken glass.I saw some poor reviews on these, but for the price I think they are perfect. I would say if you are getting a microscope for child under 11 or 12 put these in your cart too, because it is great to have something safe and easy to put under the scope the moment you open up the gift.Oh, did I mention they are plastic? No cracking when they slam the lens into the slide! 5Complete and Utter GarbageI cannot believe how worthless these are. Most of the "specimens" are indistinguishable powders or indistinguishable brown blobs of...something. I have experience with and access to several microscopes, so this is not an issue of poor viewing equipment. The "grasshopper leg" is a roundish pile of debris, there are tiny fragments of a fish and a snake scale (too tiny for either the source or the patterns to be identifiable). One slide, labeled "Drinks," has samples of cola (a brown stain), coffee (a brown blob with no resemblance to plant material or anything else) and tea (a leaf fragment that looks used). This is by far the worst purchase i have ever made on Amazon. 1Early learning microscopy.Have a budding scientist at home or perhaps you are an elementary level homeschool teacher looking for teaching aids? Either way this is a great gift for a young student.Positives:Plastic slides so no glass to break3 specimens per slide so lots to look at.Good mix of specimens with out anything too "yucky"Very large specimens and well labeledNegatives:This is not for use with a good microscopePlastic distorts the imageSome samples are too thick or not useful for microscopy.Very basic levelIn a nut shell these are for younger kids using a low power pocket microscope. Fun too look at but your not going to see cell wall structures or organelles. However they are safe for small students and good for basic lessons on science. If you need real slides for higher power microscopes this is not for you. 3 stars for usefulness but 4 if used for early learning purposes. 3Very nice slides for the priceMy son has spent countless hours bent over his microscope viewing these slides . So many things to look at . It opens a whole new world to our kiddos whole learning at the same time .Really a good product for many ages . You will get a lot of uses out of these .Highly recommend . Not an average toy item , but a great way to engage with then and get away from electronics . 5
