Customer Reviews

Race to Adventure! A quick and fun Pulp Action Board Game!As a small disclaimer, I have not played the Spirit of the Century RPG this is based on. I have read a couple of the books and decided to pick this game up as I love Evil Hat and wanted to give it a try.Race to Adventure puts players in the role of the Centurions, 'potent individuals of action', born on the first day of the century, and endowed with extraordinary skills and abilities. In this game, 2 to 5 players are racing around the map to complete various objectives for each country so they can have their passport stamped by that country. Once a player has all 9 countries stamps they may return to the Century Club and shout "I have Returned!" to win the game. This game is incredibly easy to learn and fast to set up. You shuffle the map locations out randomly so that the game changes everytime you play. The game also has an "Advanced Mode" which ups the difficulty and makes the game more varied. Evil hat has also provided a Youtube video ([...] to show players how to play the core game. My group that has been playing the game are hardcore roleplayers, not board game enthuiasts, but we had not problem learing both the simple and advanced portions of the game.As for content, this game is tons of fun! The rules are simple and the whole theme of ruining your buddies turns leads to an actual exciting race to see who finishes the game. The base version is good for people with young kids or people who are being introduced to this system or board games of this type. However, the advanced rules are a blast! A base game can take 15 to 30 minutes depending on the skill of the players and an advanced game can take 30 to 45 minutes.Overall I am so happy I purchased this game. If you are looking for a fun campy filled adventure that is quick to set up and easy to learn, put this in your cart now. You'll thank me later ^_^ 5Adventure begins! For those who were born a hundred years too late to explore the world and be an adventurer 5Good game. Not fantastic, but solid. This is a fun game. It's relatively straightforward and does a good job representing the "race to collect the artifacts" theme it's based on.Setup was pretty easy, and the rules are relatively clear. There were a few things we were a bit stuck on, but we got things sorted out quickly enough. It does definitely have a "race" feel, which can mean that some players might get frustrated if they fall behind.Overall, this game was fun to play, but I think there are better games out there. 4Great Pulp-Themed Game!I played this at my friendly local game shop on an open game night (unfortunately I don't own it yet, but it is top of my game to-buy list now) and it was a complete blast! I also play Spirit of the Century (Pen and Paper RPG and big brother to this game) so I was already in love with the setting, style and adventures!Even if you aren't really into the pulp genre, the game mechanics are simple to learn but have enough complexity to draw in beginner and advanced players alike. I would recommend this game to anyone, buy it or give it a try at your FLGS! 4This is a Fun Game.Fun Game. This game is a strategy game, but it's not real intense with a ton of moving parts. There's just enough things to keep track of and manage to make it fun with just a touch of out thinking or maneuvering your opponents. It makes it really fun to try and think 2 or 3 moves ahead of everyone to win the game. I've played with 2 people and with 4. After a couple games are through, you'll figure out mistakes you've made and make sure you're playing by the rules ( there aren't many, but sometimes you just have to start playing to work through it ) and it just gets more fun from there. I'll be buying the expansion(s) for sure. 5Fast and funI picked this up on a whim and took it to a game night and it was an instant hit. Average game length of about 20 to 30 minutes, quick to learn, and lots of fun. I am looking forward to getting the expansion. 5Fun and easy game to learnThis is a very enjoyable game and is easy to learn yet challenging to win. I didn't buy it on Amazon but was one of the people who kickstarted it.I highly recommend this game to families looking for something different to try together. 5Review of "Race To Adventure!"So I got a chance to objectively play a game that I supported thoroughly on Kickstarter. The item I am speaking about is Race to Adventure: The Spirit of the Century Exploration Game and it's expansions Race to Adventure! Expansion Pack: Dinocalypse Now and the Hollow Earth. Now while some of you might say what about just playing the game, I tell you... Read the post before you correct me, because I specifically take care of that issue. Now that I am done arguing with an imaginary reader...I found this great game on Kickstarter a while back. One of the pleasures of this Kickstarter was the print and play copy of the game. Thanks to that I was able to play the game multiple times, before ever receiving my physical copy.I love print and play copies, with the exceptions of things that require me to do too many cards. But this was a reasonable amount. I constantly troll Kickstarter, and to be honest I'm probably a lot more supportive of other projects then it was of mine, but it's a great resource for fresh new game concepts.WHAT DID I LIKE ABOUT THE GAME:Playing as a Gorilla, seriously. That's my go to character. My fiance picks Asian Indiana Jones, but I love The Gorilla man. The game is awesome, and creative. Every round players select items, to correspond with their plans, and the first pick rotates around the board. My first choice for items is always "What do I need." Followed shortly behind with "Screwing people over."Looking at the expansions separately, I can honestly say they add to a game that is well designed and well thought through. The Hawaiian Century Club, is a nice play on the game dynamics, while Lundy island and the Sinkhole had more diversity to the game.WHAT DID I DISLIKE ABOUT THE GAME:There isn't much that I dislike about this game. The 5 player maximum however can be a bit weird. They made a 6th player expansion, but I refuse to mix high quality cards with print and play cards. Also the extra item from 6th player removes the ability to do my favorite thing in the game... "Screwing People Over!"WHO IS THIS GAME DESIGNED FOR?For a more advanced gamer. The understanding of your strategic moves well past your current turn can easily be lost on a new game player. However, don't mistake this statement, new players and old game players will find this game fun, and could still win the game, if they successfully try to screw people over.RATING!6.7 out of 8. The game is fun, it doesn't take to long, but without further expansions it will get dry relatively quick. Their 6th player expansion left a lot to be desired, and no one likes print and play to mix and match with the actual game copy. 4Love this gameExcellent game. The play is easy to pick up and it is a blast to play. 5
