Customer Reviews

A very fun and entertaining game for the entire family (of 4)...Fun game with family and friends. This is a 2-4 player game. Unfortunately my family has 5 players.Going to buy a second copy so I can have 2 more player pieces to make this game a 2-6 player game.Gonna paint the added 2 players purple and pink. After playing this a few times adding the extra players will not change the dynamics of the game much, but will allow us to play as a family. We have played using an extra player from a different game and the dynamics did not change, so it is sad they limited the max players to 4.Nothing another $22.77 won't solve...plus I can add the extra card deck to lower the amount of times you have to shuffle the deck. This game requires you to shuffle the dang cards almost every 2-3 turns, that is a pain since you only have a few cards to shuffle...not like a complete deck of 52 cards which would be easy. 5My wife stumbled upon this game during an internet search and we were both very impressed with all the rave reviews over the game and the popularity it gained in a short time over in Europe so we decided to give it shot as a Xmas gift for our boys and we figured with a title like Ghost hunters it would garner there interestIt was a 2017 Christmas Day hit, this gift came in very underrated compared to all the more notable mainstream wishlist items on our 6 & 9 yr old boys Xmas list. My youngest son absolutely loves family board games and he requested a new board game for Xmas.My wife and I looked at all the more notable board games but wanted to try something new/different to add to our collection. My wife stumbled upon this game during an internet search and we were both very impressed with all the rave reviews over the game and the popularity it gained in a short time over in Europe so we decided to give it shot as a Xmas gift for our boys and we figured with a title like Ghost hunters it would garner there interest. As you can probably imagine, it took us until the dinner hour on Xmas to get settled down enough to give this board game a shot and I must say of all the gifts given at the end of the day this board game turned out to be the Christmas Day "family favorite".After playing the game multiple times last night, what we ended up lovimg most about the game play is, unlike other games where you are working as an individual to win against all others, you actually have to work and strategize together as a team/family to win. Because it's you "your team" playing against the board game, and in order to win ALL players have to successfully accomplish the task before victory is achieved. As a recommendation you may want to look up the video game tutorial instructions on YouTube before playing as this game is not like many others and game play rules could initially be somewhat challenging for some to grasp if you aren't an avid board game player.I also recommend playing basic version of the game the first time around, just to help you grasp the game play concept. But after get it down, you will have the most fun playing the full version of the game, and I promise you and the kids will be hooked. We give this game 5 out 5 stars, for family fun and challenging game play. Get this game, your family will love it, hours of fun with this one. 5Great introductory cooperative game for kidsI am a board game lover, and I have been buying games to my son since he was very young. Some of his favorites include Ravensburger Labyrinth and World of Disney Eye Found It Board Game. I wanted to have some more cooperative games in our "library", so I bought him this one in his 5th birthday even I had never heard about it before. What a wonderful discovery! The rules of the simplified game are easy to grasp, and it only took one game for my son to understand them. In short:- The players have to collect jewels around the house and bring them out- Every turn, there is a chance that a new ghost appears- When 3 ghost are in the same room, they become a haunting. If 6 hauntings are in the house, you lose- To prevent losing the game, you can fight the ghosts (reducing their number)- Fighting as a team (2 players in the same room) is much more effective than fighting alone, making teamwork important for successThere is an advanced one which adds additional constraints to the movement and to the order in which you have to pick up the jewels, but we have not tried it yet.The game has simple yet nice figures. My son likes the little green ghosts and the larger red hauntings. Also, each of the main characters has a different, unique figure - a nice touch. The cards also have very nice art, with each of the ghosts represented in an activity related to the room where they appear. Overall, he enjoys not just the gameplay, but also the general feeling of the game.As a person who expect to play Shadows Over Camelot and Pandemic Board Game with my son one day, this is a perfect introductory game to get him into the key concepts of cooperative gameplay. And even if we lose, since we all lose together, he barely gets upset! 5A game that teaches valuable life lessons. This is a really fun game. Amazon's price was about $10 less than ToysRUs so we snagged it hear. What's great about this game is that everybody joins together to play as a team against the ghosts -- the goal is to enter the house, collect all the treasure, and get out before the place becomes haunted. Now before you start thinking that this is one of those 'everybody gets a trophy' games hold your horses because what I love about this game is that it's quite possible you will LOSE (especially if you play by the 'advanced' rules). When my son and I play we have about a 60% win rate. If you don't work together as a team you will lose. If the cards don't go your way (just like in real life), you will lose. It's not difficult to understand the game, but you do have to pay attention. Personally I think the game teaches some valuable lessons. That being said, while the game is fun and I definitely like it, it can sometimes get a bit tedious (trying to stave off all the ghosts and never stop coming). And be warned - it's frustrating to lose! Haha 4Five Year Old Loves It!!!This game has been a hit with my 5 year old and our family. We will pull this game out whenever the grandparents are in town, and the four of us will strap on our ecto-packs and go GHOST FIGHTING! This is a game where you are rolling a dice and moving around a board to collect gems and take them off the board. As you do this, the board fills with ghosts. Three ghosts in a room become a giant red haunting. If all six hauntings are on the board, you lose! Get all the gems out, you win! Seeing those red hauntings is truly a dreadful experience! Matched only with the joy of two players working together to destroy them!A few things we love about this game:Theme is fun and not scaryThe pieces are so fun, you put the gem in the backpack of your guy!Cooperation helps you winRolling the dice to get rid of ghosts is so FUN!The game can get Progressively harder by adding new cards/challengesGreat game for 5+ year old kids and families. 5Buy this game nowLove this game! The kids and adults alike enjoy this one. Much more challenging than it seems too, we lost several times and still had a great time. Definitely recommend this one!!Each player can make up to 4 steps on each turn1:roll the movement die2:if the die shows a ghost, flip a card and add a ghost to the room shown. Numbers 1-5 have ghosts, so they come frequently.3:move your treasure hunter4:fight ghosts or haunts if applicableTo fight ghosts, there must be a ghost in the same room as you are in. Then you roll one die with the ghosts and haunts on it. If you roll a ghost you've beaten one ghost in that room and it it's removed from the game board. To fight haunts you must have two players in the same room as one of them. Then you each roll a die with the ghosts and haunts on them. If one of you rolls a haunt, you've beaten it and it is removed from the board.Once you have 6 haunts on the board, yours team has lost (all players are the same team). The goal of the whole game is to recover the 8 gems from 8 rooms. They fit in the little slot on the backpack of the mover so you can carry it out once you've pocket it up and it's actually really cute. But while you are trying to do this, ghosts are coming up everywhere! You fight one here and more come up there. You only start out with a few ghosts and you think it's going to be a simple game and then it's not at all. 5Favorite cooperative game for kids!We love this game! My 8-year-old is on the Autism spectrum, and has a really hard time when things go wrong in a board game (even cooperative games). This game is easier for him to handle, because the bad situations are easier to overcome. It feels challenging, yet always possible to win, since the ghosts can be banished from the house, and players can take shortcuts around the place. I love that the players can all be doing their own things, while still working simultaneously toward a shared goal. I can't recommend this one highly enough! 5Fun Cooperative Game For Everyone PlayingGhost Fightin' Treasure Hunters is amazing! My family are noobs to the world of modern board games. Before purchasing this we were mostly playing the classic board games or their Junior branded counterpart. My 6 & 7 year old can play this with very little help and no reading necessary. I just have to give them a few suggestions here and there. My 3 year old loves trying to play too, but he has a habit of picking up the little ghosts and playing with them so I have to remember where they were on the board. There are a lot of things that make Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters great. It is a simple concept with a great theme, the cards and board art are pretty to look at, the little miniatures are detailed and feel like quality pieces, it is a cooperative play style, and everyone gets to fight ghosts together. As a parent it is awesome to see my kids working together instead of teasing or snickering that someone is doing better than the other. Best of all, we all win or lose together and no one gets upset about it!!We play with the basic rules for now, but we've had about a 50% win/lose rate out of 6 games with 3 to 4 players. We average around 25-40 minutes per game depending mostly on how often we get the shuffle card, and the luck of the ghost dice. Some games the die is against us and we lose a turn or two trying to take out a ghost in a room with multiple ghosts. I can't recommend this game enough, it is fun for everyone playing including Mom and Dad who might even be helping a younger player. After the first game or two, the rules are easy to remember for almost everyone. The only real negative I have is that the game is limited to 4 players.Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters is currently my favorite family board game that can be enjoyed even with young players.Update-10 months later and it's still brought out twice a month or more. We have moved up to playing with all the cards which does increase the difficulty. Players do dread the draw 2 or draw 3 more cards card, but I think the reshuffle is the most evil of all because it never fails to appear right after you draw 3 cards. I'd say on average we win about half the games we play if I can convince the kids to cut through rooms, but the other half almost always come right down to the wire and then the 6th red ghost/haunting/oogie boogie hits the board and we all lose.Still a fun game for the kids even a year later. 5but rather fun game. I love board games (own over 200) ...This is a fairly simple, but rather fun game. I love board games (own over 200) and have been trying to find games for my 5 year old daughter. The problem with most kids games is that they are incredibly boring for the adult. This game is actually quite fun and engaging. It requires strategy, because you have to work together to get all 8 pieces of treasure out of the house; however, you will often have to detour to make sure too many ghosts don't accumulate in various rooms. If 3 ghosts ever end up in 1 room, they turn into a "haunt" which requires 2 players to defeat. And if too many of the haunts appear, you will lose the game. We've played this game about 5 or 6 times now and almost every game has come down to the wire. Its a lot of luck of the die and luck of the card draw, but in a good way, because you have to adapt and deal with the randomness. Rolling the die tells you how many spaces you can move. All of the numbers (excluding the 6) require you to place a ghost on the board. You place a ghost by drawing a card and the card tells you what room the ghost goes into. Anyway, this is quick enough and requires enough strategy that I enjoy playing it. Yet its easy enough that my daughter has no problem with it. Highly recommend!!! 5Great game, Great price! What a surprise! This game is great! Let me tell you why. First, it is simply beautiful. I don t think the picture here does it justice. The components are nice. The ghost and player figures are flexible plastic and durable. The red haunted pieces are hard plastic, but are very sturdy. The cards, dice and tokens are just fine. The basic level requires cooperative play and the rules are very simple, but the game itself is very challenging. It does require some strategy! My mother and I played it twice and lost both times because we tried desperately to get all the gem tokens out of the house before six rooms became haunted but should have spent a little extra time working at removing some haunted pieces from the rooms. (It wasn t clear if you could leave the room if a ghost popped up in it before it was your turn, so we played you had to clear the room before leaving as well.) So, when we play again, we realize there has to be some give and take or we will fail again. We have only played the basic game and have not made it to the more challenging versions, so I m excited to see what happens. Final thoughts: I thought that I was buying a child s game, but to my surprise, adults will enjoy this game too! 5
