Customer Reviews

You're Going to Want One of These When Mohawk Spider Gremlin is Released SoonI'd put off getting one of these, and didn't really plan on getting one as I already own quite a few Gizmos from earlier NECA releases and lets be honest all the Gizmo figures are pretty similar, especially with their facial expression. But days ago NECA announced on their Facebook page that the spider version of Mohawk from Gremlins 2 is going to be made. Spider Mohawk has been on the wish list of many collectors, since the Gremlin sequel hit the screen in 1990 so that will sell out pretty quick and cost a fortune to obtain if you don't get one quick. I anticipate when Spider Mohawk hits stores and websites, that many fans will also be after this version of Gizmo from a few years ago, (so it's unlikely you'll find it in physical stores anymore) where inspired by a Rambo clip he's previously watched back when he was in a cage in the shop, Gizmo bends a paperclip to make a bow, puts a pencil into a liquid paper bottle (of course an office building these days is more likely to have liquid paper pens so you may have to explain to your kids what that is), climbs into the air conditioning system, opens a vent, lights the liquid paper bottle on fire and fires it into Mohawk who seemed to be pretty much unstoppable on his rampage before Gizmo had finally had enough! So it you're tossing up wether to get a Combat Gizmo or not I'd probably do so before Spider Mohawk is released. When this arrived I must say it is a bit better Gizmo head wise than the previous ones I own. His ears are more like in the films, longer and pointier. Because he's obviously had enough and is mad, his mouth (snout, beak whatever you want to call it) is now in a frown rather than the smile of previous Gizmos. To be honest you could easily make the accessories this comes with yourself and attach them to a previous Gizmo figure, but the frown and squinted eyes on this figure resemble the scene slightly better than the older Gizmo figures portray. This like the other Mogwai characters released in the same year has the poseable eyes (which means eyes you move through a trackball on the back of his head. People either like this feature or hate it. To me it doesn't really add anything, since 99.9% of this figures life is going to be posed like a statue anyway, it's more of a gimmick, but it may be a reason for you to buy it.As another reviewer has mentioned the paintjob is a bit sloppy. Maybe it's different on all figures and being you can't select these from a shelf in a store these days it's going to be a bit of a lucky dip for you. Mine has clearish brown paint on the fur where it looks like a vest in the white bit bordering it as well as brown in the white bits on the ears. The ears don't really matter as like a dog or a cat or something in real life Gizmo would have bits of brown in amongst the white. But the body clearly looks like a paint brush has gone somewhere it shouldn't. Even without the paint mistakes it's kind of weird that they've painted his brown like he's wearing a vest, on previous Gizmo figures the brown goes all the way down to where the torso ends and the separate mould that is the legs begins. Maybe they wanted to hide the separate legs and body join by making the lower part of the body white, who knows? Other than the paint mistakes, the general appearance of the figure does resemble fur with ridges and things like this. It's always going to be hard to make a soft furry creature look that way with a hard plastic figure, so NECA have done an all right job in that regard. The detail in his toes, toenails, fingers and hands and feet in general is a lot better than previous release Gizmos.Gizmo is also wearing a rope belt which does actually resemble a rope and a red bandana that doesn't quite look right. The paperclip and rubber band bow looks okay. The pencil in liquid paper arrow isn't the correct proportions with the pencil being a lot longer than it would be compared to a real life liquid paper and pencil. Obviously it's not on fire so you might have to add some fake fire to the bottle for display. The bottle is also just white, it doesn't have the brand name and stuff that the movie one had. This is a criticism I have of all the Gremlin NECA figures but I would love Gizmo to be posed in the packaging holding the bow and arrow so that if you choose not to take it out of the clear blister packaging it's already posed. The packaging is the type that once you open it, it's destroyed so you can't put him back. Some sellers on some websites claim this (and other Mogwai for that matter) figures are 7" tall. It doesn't claim that anywhere on the packaging. This one is just over 3" (just under 9cm) high. The arrow from eraser to the bottom of the bottle is around 8cm in length is slightly shorter than the figure. If you are getting any of the Gremlins figures the Mogwai are smaller than the taller Gremlins like they are in the films. 4Pretty cool. Has some issues.I've purchased of few NECA figures out of my love of 80's movies. As always, NECA has done a fantastic job on the sculpt. They did a great job capturing Gizmo's likeness and facial expression. The paint application is pretty good too. Combat Gizmo definitely stands out in my small collection, being much cuter than my other NECA figures (Freddy Krueger, Terminator, Alien, and Predator). The first thing I noticed about this figure was the odd size. He stands about 3.5 inches tall. That's neither good nor bad, just something I wanted to point out.Now the bad... He has a lot of articulated parts, but they have a very limited range of motion. Most of the joints are completely useless (ears, wrists, swivel forearms, legs) because they can barely move anyway. The shoulders and neck joints work well. But the worst moving part is the eyes. The internal eye mechanism is poorly designed, resulting in a "lazy eye" appearance. It is hard to pose the eyes so they are both looking in the same direction. And once you get them right, one eye will wander as soon as your hand leaves the control mechanism. I would rather his eyes not move at all. Also, he comes with his bow and arrow accessories - but he can't hold the bow as if he's using it. I have him displayed holding it down at his side. Last, the red bandana on his head was all bent out of shape and falling off. I had to heat the plastic, bend it, and super-glue it to his head. It was an easy fix - but I have to do this kind of touch-up work to EVERY figure I buy from NECA. At least it was just the bandana, not a cracked joint or deformed leg.I will continue to purchase NECA products for their great sculpts, but I'm really getting sick of paying full price for figures that I have to glue, or boil, or paint, or drill. 3sloppy paintUnfortunately, I found myself a bit disappointed with this figure. I'd hoped NECA would have updated its paint process for Gizmo based on negative reviews of the earlier Gizmo figure. Unfortunately, this Gizmo has some of the same paint smudges along the border between the white and brown fur. It's not too bad from far away, but just looks sloppy up close. The accessories are tiny and look fragile. Even worse, they don't fit well in Gizmo's hands and I don't want to press them in for fear of breaking them. Overall, this figure has potential, but as it is I wouldn't recommend it for either kids or collectors. 3It's Gizmo!!!!OMG!!! I just couldn't believe when I saw that Neca launched this version of Gizmo. Gremlins 1 and 2 have been from my favorite movies of the eighties, but nothing can beat Gizmo in Rambo costume. The sculpt and accessories are absolutely perfect. 5Awesome character, great design, but terrible eyesThis figure is really cool and looks great with one significant problem: Gizmo is crazy-eyed. I was hoping to display him in the package, but his eyes were too wonky. I took him out of the package, but even then I found the eyes are nearly impossible to get right. I agree with the other commenter who said that we don't need these sorts of features on toys meant for adults. 3Five StarsExcellent product, nothing less than expected. Still in retail package, nothing less than amazing :). 5Remember You Just May Have A Gremlin In Your HouseHey Its Sunnydale Girl, I'm excited about getting this little guy; I had 1 when I was a kid (not this cute RAMBO one) but he was a cute regular GIZMO....and I just loved him, and used to take him around with me EVERYWHERE! Then I started watching Gremlins previews (I always watch Gremlins SOMEHOW every year(if you read my Gremlins movie review I said I didn't, but I've been spending the year planning a Twilight themed Wedding with my fiance and my friends, and I forgot) I think it's nice that there's a spider Gremlin action figure......but now that we got this little guy I'm gonna find our other favorite Stripe! 5Mogwais Figurei like it just wish it was taller and bigger for the price i though it should be bigger and taller 4Awesome but smelledI thought it was a wonderful present for my friend as she really likes gremlins. We're completely satisfied with it (fast shipping and product) except that for a few days after it was taken out of the box it smelled terrible. It no longer smells badly, which is why me and my friend love this product :) 5Five StarsPerfect thanks 5
