Customer Reviews

My daughter's friend, Elmo! Wonderfully made!ELMO!Before my child had ever seen Sesame Street, she came home from day care saying "ELMO! ELMO!" when she saw anything red. After we figured out what she was saying, we asked and they have Elmo dolls at school and our girl LOVED them. That means we were tearing her away from her friend every day when we would go home. We had no choice but to invest in a little red monster for the house. When searching for the perfect Elmo, I had unexpected questions. Did we want hard eyes, or soft? What size did we want? Most importantly, did want Elmo to sing the alphabet, dance or even shake uncontrollably when tickled?I made the decision to get a plain ol' Elmo. We did soft eyes to protect our infant and dogs from our toddler's random fits of rage. We got a nice medium sized Elmo that would hopefully stay relevant as she grows. Of course, if you are getting a stuffed animal, you gotta get a GUND - and that led us here. I am so pleased with this purchase. He has held up to a barrage of abuse and still keeps smiling. She feeds him bottles like he is her baby, she gives him big kisses, and she holds his hand. She goes in the playroom, looks at the stack of stuffed animals and dolls, but always manages to pick Elmo out for some snuggles. This is a great toy, gift, and friend. 5Good idea in theory...I ordered this as a little surprise gift for my 20-month-old daughter, who is a Sesame Street fanatic with a proclivity towards Elmo. Using the rating categories from Amazon:1) Fun: She loves it. Holds it while watching Elmo videos, while going to sleep, and so on. It also helps that I do a dead-on impression of several Sesame Street character voices including Elmo's!2) Educational value: It's what you make of it. If you use it to teach the kid something, then it's more valuable. (Oh, and little tykes really don't seem to care much if the red hue isn't true to form or the facial features are "too close together;" that's more of a picky parent complaint!).3) Durable: This is why it's being returned after a four-day trial period. My daughter handled this toy rather nicely; didn't beat it up, pull at it, or violently/"playfully" abuse it. Instead, it was held, hugged, and laid under her if she fell asleep and rolled on it. Nonetheless, the fur began to come off in threads from random spots on the doll, which of course can pose a choking hazard. My baby is a little older and doesn't attempt to ingest everything anymore, but if it gets on her fingers and her fingers go in her mouth with food or from an injury...4) Overall, it has potential, it's soft and easy enough to wipe off, and the small size fits her little hands perfectly. Amazon sells this, but doesn't manufacture it, so I cannot hold Amazon responsible at all... and neither should any customer. *Gund* would have to work on the stability of the material before we were to purchase it -or another version of it- again. 3Soft eyes = 20" model, hard eyes = 13" modelSo let me preface this by saying I did a ton of research on Elmo plushes before settling on this one, the 20" Gund with soft eyes. I didn't particularly want soft eyes because of the propensity for staining, but what I really wanted was the quality and LOOK of the fur that looks like the actual puppet. Elmo's fur looks kind of thread like compared to normal stuffed animal fur, which was hard to determine online in stuffed animals. I was afraid the 20" Elmo online from other brands wouldn't have that nice fur that the 13" Gund Elmo does, so I took a chance with this.He arrived promptly and on time in a bag inside an Amazon box. His stuffing is pretty full including his eyes making them stiff and almost a little hard, but he's still a little floppy from his arms and legs. His cardboard or thin plastic mouth, whatever is under the fabric, is pretty stiff meaning the front of his face isn't very soft, but his fur! OMG his fur! It's exactly as I'd hoped and looks like the 13" model stock photos despite being the 20" model. It's really silky and sort of shiny actually. The proper official sesame Street Gund tags were in place letting me know this is a genuine article. Feels very high quality for the price of about $23.His size is accurate. To give you an idea, I placed a Hershey's kiss on him. I bought this for a 27 month old and think it's the perfect size, what a normal size stuffed animal is. I'm glad I didn't get the smaller 13" because it's just too small to really be a huggable buddy for a toddler. I also bought the playskool jumbo plush cookie monster to go with this Elmo as a Christmas gift because Gund only makes the smaller cookie monster. I hope cookie is as awesome as this Elmo!Update on review and added photos after receiving Playskool jumbo cookie monster:So this Gund Is far superior in quality to the playskool jumbo cookie monster, but I love that their sizes compliment one another. Still glad I went with the Gund Elmo, just a little sad that Gund doesn't make Cookie monster in the sane size. I will save the review on Cookie for that particular item, but Do like how both have that similar thread quality like fur like the real puppets. They complement each other well, but it's clear Gund is definitely superior in softness, quality and workmanship. 5Kids love it, but ordered 2 of the same Elmos and they look differentThe most important thing is that the kids are happy right?I purchased this product over a year ago, May 2013. The Elmo that we got then was very nice, looked a lot like Elmo, soft and furry, and my kid was in love with this toy immediately. Fast forward to this year September 2013, I have a 3 year old and a 10 month old who have been fighting like cats and dogs over him. I decided to buy my youngest his own Elmo toy because my oldest is autistic, and honestly it's a lot more difficult to ask him to share some of his favorite toys versus his other toys, especially the ones like Elmo that he takes to bed and everywhere else. I bought another Elmo of the exact same description and photos and everything, same brand name (Gund) and thought I'd now have two of the same toy.Wrong. The Elmo that I received in Sept '14 is about 2" shorter (and YES, it is supposed to be the same size, 13") and looks completely different. I'm giving this product 4 stars for consistency, but again...the kids are happy with both Elmo dolls, so it's not like I'm going to give it back. The 2013 Elmo has a wider mouth and again is literally taller than the 2014 Elmo.I'm not sure how other people treat their kids toys, but I wash any and all that we get, and Elmo was no exception. He got a bath straightaway, and we have had no issues with either Elmo bleeding dye onto the kids' hands or with his fur shedding. Overall a good product, but again, the consistency is an issue! 4Soft stuffed eyes are awesome! We purchased this for my 2 year old daughter because the one we bought for her at Toys R Us had hard plastic eyes and my daughter accidentally gave me a bloody nose when it s eyes hit me!! I couldn t find an Elmo with stuffed eyes anywhere else. This is very high quality, the stuffed eyes look great and feel like they will hold up for a long time, and even though it is the same size, it was cheaper than the one with hard plastic eyes we bought at the store. LOVE THIS!!! 5Perfect plush for Elmo-loving toddlers! My daughter absolutely loves her Elmo plush. One night, we'd put her to bed and half an hour later she started crying. I went in to check on her, and sat with her. Being 1 1/2 at the time, she didn't have much of a vocabulary at the time, so I couldn't tell what caused her to start crying. She pushed herself off my lap and toddled to the side of her crib, bent over, and picked up Elmo from the ground and bear-hugged him. Apparently she'd accidentally dropped him over the edge of her crib, which is why she'd began crying. I put her and Elmo back into bed, and when we checked on her later, she was sound asleep with Elmo nestled in the crook of her arm. She's nearly 2 now, and this remains her constant nighttime buddy. He's held up to several rounds through the washing machine just fine. The fur around his mouth is pretty matted down (Elmo gets LOTS of kisses) but overall, he's still in great condition after a year of typical toddler manhandling. If your child loves Elmo, this is a great buy! 5Highly recommend for a toddler that loves elmo as much as ...My daughter loves it . Very soft. Highly recommend for a toddler that loves elmo as much as my girl does. 5Deep Cover ElmoOk. This needs some explaining. My youngest son (7) has been a HUGE fan of Elmo since he was a baby. I got him one of these Elmo's some years ago. The problem was that after a few months, Elmo starts to look dirty and not very clean. So I would then buy another Elmo and replace the previous one with the new one. His mom and I would tell him we "washed" Elmo and that's why he looks so clean. He would often complain that Elmo was not as comfortable as before after the "wash", but... whatever (Elmo also gets used as a pillow). LOL!This has now gone on for years and we used to throw the old Elmo's out, but I decided to keep them. Hopefully one day when my son is old enough to handle the truth, I'll tell and show him that the Elmo he loved and adored is not just ONE Elmo, but one of MANY!If you buy this particular one, know going in that if it's loved and carried EVERYDAY around the house, it will look more like the older ones in this photo. His mom bought a different size Elmo and that almost blew the cover on this operation, but we cleared that up. Not the best made Elmo, but he's loved too much to switch now. 4This Elmo doll was all cloth and great. No worries of hurting my 17 month old ...I bought this Elmo doll after reading the reviews of the others with eyes that broke and creating a hazard to young children. This Elmo doll was all cloth and great. No worries of hurting my 17 month old grandson. he loves it and goes to sleep with it every night. When I ordered it I thought it might be too big, but it is a perfect size. 5great Elmo for loves and snugglesI wanted an Elmo with no hardware, no talking, no singing, just snuggles. This is PERFECT. It is soft, fuzzy, doesn't shed, and the eyes are soft and made of material. It's well made and quite huggable, I tested it before giving to my daughter. She's 21 months. Her eyes lit up and she yelled, "ELMO"! She sleeps with it, it lays on the couch with her, it sits next to her reading. She's a petite kid, 50% ht/wt on the scales, and she can easily tote this thing around and it doesn't overwhelm her. Unfortunately it's now part of the menagerie that must be in the bed when she sleeps, so we have a stuffed bird, stuffed rabbit, a plastic baby from Target, a sheep lovey, a rabbit lovey, a bear lovey, a frog lovey that holds her binky, and now Elmo. I don't quite get how there is room for her in there but she makes it work. Anyway, if you are looking for no noise, no mechanical bits, just a stuffed animal that will be loved to baldness, this is the one to get. 5
