Customer Reviews

Better than expectedMy husband and I were chatting one day and I mentioned something about Holland Michigan being super conservative while Amsterdam in the Netherlands is very Liberal. He's a very bright guy, but for some reason he thought that Amsterdam was in Germany. I joked that we needed a giant inflatable globe so he can brush up on his Geography. He bet me that there was no such thing, so I bought this. Giant is a relative term, right? This globe is exactly as described - inflatable and 20-inches around. My toddler looks very cute carrying it around as it's significantly bigger than she is. It's not quite round and it requires a few extra puffs of air every now and again, but you expect that out of a beach ball, right? It has a plastic smell to it, the same as most inflatables.I really like the big bold colors. This globe is big enough to pack in a lot of information and it's all very readable. It has all of the countries clearly labeled and several major cities (including Amsterdam, which still isn't in Germany.) It shows degrees of longitude and latitude. There's a lot of detail. It's a learning toy! It's not going to last forever - it's a beach ball. I feel that the price is a little high, but it's exactly what I wanted. 4Excellent fun learning toolI am a high school teacher who purchased this for classroom games with the students. It is a hit with my students. They think it's so fun to throw it around at each other and it takes the classroom discussion times up a notch. The globe itself is great quality. Thick material, well made, very large and the map is great detail. Better than I expected. So far it's been thrown around nearly daily by rowdy teenage boys and it hasn't popped or deflated a bit. Great purchase for teachers or home schoolers 5fun globeThis is my second order, I am ordering 3 more. The children love the size, it is playful education.because it light it can be use as an indoor ballBecause it is a fun objet children return to play with it, the globe does not sit in a corner forgotten like many of the rigid ne do.I am not giving it a 5 stars because the first burst (after 18months) .It could be made with a slitty stronger material. 4A wonderful addition to any house and doubles as yoga propI hang this from the ceiling and I do yoga with it. It is wonderful--bright colors, stays inflated, and hangs nicely. This also works as a yoga prop -- if you are gentle with it. 5Great globe, well made, detailed information. It's great, better than I expected for the price. I have always loved maps myself, probably because my dad was in the Navy when I was growing up and we moved every year. We now have a 2 1/2 year old grandson who spends every Wednesday with us. His mind right now is like a sponge so I'm trying to fill it with. As much as I can.The globe is well made and has not leaked any air to speak of. I am also impressed that it even shows Midway Island. Midway is only about 1 square mile of land surrounded by a coral reef. I lived on it for a year when I was 9 years old. 5I like it. It isn't as round as I thought ...I like it. It isn't as round as I thought it was going to be. It appears to have been made in sections so it has a sort of geometric hexogonal shape to it when blown up. Also, it doesn't come with a pump so be prepared to sit down and blow it up with your mouth for several minutes. The nice thing about blowing it up though is that it has one of those special stoppers that even when you are not blowing air into it, it doesn't lose air that you have already blown into it. That's a plus.As for the geological mapping part of it, it seems fairly accurate. By that I mean, as accurate as a globe model of the earth can be ;) The longitude latitude lines, which are kindly included printed onto this globe, seem accurate as well until you get down passed the equator then things kinda start to warp. Antarctica doesn't have many labels of places. The north pole is virtually non-existent on this globe, mostly due to the existence of the hole where you blow into it is.Overall, this is a nice representation of the globe theory. It helps with picturing what a globe would look like if the earth were, in fact, that shape. 4has South SudanThis globe shows South Sudan. I couldn't find any inflatable globes on Amazon that specified in the product details or in the reviews that they showed South Sudan, so I thought I'd mention that, since it was something important to me in my shopping. This shows nearly all the countries. (I couldn't find Lichtenstein or San Marino and it might be leaving out some small island nations, I'm not sure.) Some are given abbreviations (Lux, Slov, Azer, UAE). Most country capitals are included, but not all (missing for Moldova, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, Croatia, Slovenia "Slov", Bosnia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, perhaps more). There are some unlabeled islands as well. There are quite a few extra cities on the globe that aren't capitals. The equator is actually a thick stripe, alternating black and clear, rather than a single line, so you don't know exactly where the equator is. But overall, this is a mostly accurate globe if you are just interested in learning the countries. I didn't find any errors, like things labeled incorrectly. The colors are bright, but it would be better if they'd stuck with a 4-color scheme like in the photo. There are about 8-10 different colors so borders are a little less distinct. One thing I really appreciate is that care was taken to ensure that no lettering got cut off in the seams. It is large and takes up a good bit of space, but it takes so much air to blow up, you wouldn't want to be inflating and deflating it daily. I'm not sure if you can use a pump on it or not. I had wanted a smaller one, but the plus side of this being bigger is that it's easier to read and more small spaces can be labeled. Still, if they had a smaller version with all the countries and no capitals, I think I'd go for that.Overall, this is a big, attractive globe that does a pretty good job of showing what it's supposed to. 4Great for learning, but don't play with itEvery kid needs one of these. It's a great learning tool and MUCH larger and MUCH cheaper than a globe! This is very well crafted, and should last a long time if they don't treat it like a beach ball. Seriously, beach balls cost like 2-3 bucks, so I would actually recommend you get a couple of those if you're buying this product because young kids will want to play with this, and you shouldn't let them. Do you let them throw books around?I also think it's hilarious that the girl in the pic is holding it so that Mecca is right in the center, but that's probably just a coincidence :) 5Great Educational Toy, EXCEPT for the Toxic FumesThe GOOD: The ball is quite large (meaning that the picture of a globe with a normal sized child holding it is not deceiving like on some other products); the globe is very colourful and has all the major geographic locations identified on it, including major cities, therefore it is an excellent learning tool for young children such as my 5 y/o who took an incredible interest in it . We spent great deal of time learning about continents, countries, and where people in our family were born and traveled, some history (WWII) and current political events, Now, he can relate to his educational TV programs. Of course, it is a fun toy to just toss around with the family. The ball is safe to play with younger kids and is safe around furniture, windows, and electronics. It is quite durable. The NEUTRAL: You will need some sort of device to inflate it as it is large. The BAD: The ball has terrible noxious, toxic paint smell to it. The smell filled our two story large living room in no time at all. I did not feel it is safe for the children to be around this toy too much at one time. I stored it overnight in the farthest corner of the house from bedrooms. The smell is still there the next day. My only hope is that the toxic fumes will dissipate over time. 4Doesn't hold airCompared to the astounding price of gloves, this ball is a great deal. However, as mentioned by another reviewer, the chemical stench is still bad after a week airing out in my basement. The colors seem to vary as mine doesn't have the browns another reviewer mentioned, nor a yellow Iceland. The biggest flaw in this globe, in my opinion, is that after a superhuman effort to blow it up - the valve is small and air has to be forced in- it doesn't stay closed for even one minute. I glued it closed but that will make it impossible to ever blow up again. I recommend saving up for a real globe, which is what we are going to do. 1
