    MISLEADING ADVERTISINGThe photos of this product are totally misleading. Despite appearances, it is NOT 3D. The learning value of this is WAY lower than a fully kinetic, 3D version. It serves me right for not reading other reviews more carefully. Don't make my mistake. 1Great product for every elementary aged child!Questions were asked before regarding quantities of blocks. Here's what is included:1-workbook1-"1000" block10-"100" flats50- "10" rods100-"1" cubesHope this helps 5Perfect in helping my son master a concept over the summer that he didn't quite get when addressed at school.I would like to say how much this item has helped my son with only working with it a little. I had previously made a paper base ten set using small stickers but my son still didn't really get the place value concept using those. This set is something that he is excited to use because he wants to build towers and patterns with the pieces so today we used this set combined with a few other things for a lesson that seems to have finally helped the concept click for him and I am looking forward to teaching him more concepts with this set over the summer. (My son is 7 and just finished first grade) The items I used with this set was a dry erase pocket that I put a paper into which I drew a place value chart on and the place value dice set that I had also gotten off of Amazon. I had my son roll the dice and had him write the numbers on the chart where they belong to make the number then I went over how to read the number. The next step in our process of learning place value is that I had him pull the correct amount of different value blocks from this base ten set according to the number we had written on the board that was derived from the dice. The last step is what kept his interest through the whole ordeal because my son has trouble concentrating normally and that was that I let him make a unique tower creation using only the blocks he pulled for that number so that every time he makes a tower it will be different because the amount of blocks allowed for it were different.I am very happy to have finally broken through with this concept for him before he hits second grade where they will most likely have taken for granted that he already knew this. I would also like to note that when stacked the hundreds flats resemble the thousands block so my son was able to accurately see how they related and surprised me by doing this himself and telling me what it meant. I was so sure he didn't have this concept down before and my paper set I made could not show this. The sizes of the squares in each increment piece is just as comparable from the ones to the tens to the flats to the cube which is helpful. If there is one drawback from this set it is that there is only one thousand cube, but I knew this upon purchase and I know that if more were in included the price would be higher. For my son's present education level I am content to limit him to 2000 and below for addition and subtraction and place value. 5Great, magnetic base ten manipulativesThese work great in my 2nd grade classroom. They are great at illustrating the concept of ungrouping, which some of my students were having trouble with. This is an easy and not terribly expensive manipulative to help many students. Love that it is magnetic, that is why I chose this particular product over others. I use it at the front of my class, on the white board, and it works great. Large enough that every student can easily see the pieces from anywhere in the room. When I purchased this, I thought the pieces would be more 3-D. That was my own misconception though because I never actually read that they were I just assumed because all my other base ten items are. I'm very pleased with this kit. 5Missing activity sheets and storage box.I have been using the starter set for years, and decided to buy the classroom set for a preschool I work with. This set was missing the 10 activity books and storage box. Per the description, Set includes 600 individual units, 200 rods, 20 flats, 3 cubes, 10 Activity Books, Teaching Notes, and storage box . Disappointed, since I am out of the country and can t return this set. It came in a regular cardboard box but I was assuming the storage box would be something different which would help organize the pieces. 2Good quality, very usefulMaterial is hard plastic. The units do not stick to each other or separate (they are not like Legos), so the ten units are sticks, the hundreds are square planks, etc. There are enough pieces in enough sizes to illustrate concepts. It comes with a good sized workbook with teaching ideas. I loved the look on my four year old's face when I told him that this is what 1,000 looks like versus 100 versus 10 - something clicked! 5Great QualityIt looks good. I got it quickly. It's my bad that I didn't read the reviews before I placed an order. The material is cheap and now I have wasted all my money on that. There are so many negative reviews on this product that Amazon should have done something about it. The seller should have listed this product is a magnetic sheet, not actual cubes. 1
