Customer Reviews

Works well with Lionel lion chief RC o scale trainsWe bought my train crazy 5 year old his first o gauge big boy train for Christmas this year (Pennsylvania Flyer Lion chief) and I ordered this set of track to go along with it. I m glad I did! They re a little pricey and they don t always snap together with ease but they work great and are well made. I can recommend to go with the Lionel o gauge electric trains. I paid full price for this and didn t get a discount for reviewing. Hope this helps! 4This is a nice expansion pack This is a nice expansion pack, however I was unclear that it only includes enough pieces to just make the figure 8. What you see on the front of the box is not all that is included. What is in the box is 4 curve pieces, 4 mini straights, or half regular straight track pieces, and the crossing. In order to actually complete the set you will need 8 more curve track pieces and 4 regular straight pieces. Most of Lionel's starter sets which luckily I had have enough pieces included to combine with this box set to complete the figure 8. It works fine, Although the crossing can be a problem depending on what engine you have running across it. The Polar Express set I tested out worked pretty well as it only had stopped once going across the crossing. But not sure if the other trains will have the same luck as other reviews have reported problems with other trains. Would I buy again, absolutely. It does really change the look and is better than a traditional oval by far. However for $75 I wish it was the complete oval not just enough pieces to make the oval. Overall would buy again 4Read this if your track doesn't work.At first these rails didn't work and I figured that I had the same problem as other bad reviewers here. But I was able to fix the problem. The center rail was the problem. I cleaned the "pins" and the rails with Goo Gone. And then I carefully squeezed the center rails so that there was more friction upon insertion. This gave better contact. If you squeeze it too much the rails won't go together. So just pry it apart until they fit.Hope this works for you.Good luck and have fun. 3Junk - center-rail pins breakWhat a disappointment. I should have known when I got the package, these items were not in official Lionel packaging. Just in a clear plastic bag. They are made of 3, 10-inch railbeds glued together, but with single piece 30-inch metal rails. I bought 4 of these, and all 4 have the non-shiny pot metal center rail pins that do not bend. These pins break easily when you connect the track to other tracks. Any slight bending when you connect or disconnect tracks will break off the center pin. Lesson learned, and after reading up on this issue: Do not buy tracks that have the non-shiny pins on the rails. Compare the outer rail pins to the center rail pins if either or both are not shiny, they are junk. 1These 30" Lionel Fast Tracks are the great add-on for the Lionel Train Sets and you can't ...These 30" Lionel Fast Tracks are the great add-on for the Lionel Train Sets and you can't go wrong owning several of the 30" straight sections. I own several and still sometimes can't have enough when designing a train around the room for Holiday Seasons. These sections make a great replacement of three 10" sections to provide a stronger electronic and mechanical connection. 5Beware 3 tracks glued not 30" pieceNot a Amazon problem they wouldn't know product was like this but it was very upsetting when I thought I was actually buying a 30" piece of straight track but manufacture found a way to scam you out of more money by super gluing 3 10" tracks together and charging you more by piece than 4 10" track kits cost. I could of very easily glued track together but that wasn't the kind of stupidity I was looking for. Always buy kits of four I guess is the lesson and just glue yourself I hope this helps so you don't get ripped off to. 1The old type Lionel track was brilliant and bullet proof and very versatileThe old type Lionel track was brilliant and bullet proof and very versatile. However it was very difficult to make it look good on a layout. The fastrack is much better in appearance and very quick to assemble either permanently or as a demonstration on almost any surface. It is more accurate than the old track and the trains new or old run on it very well. Assembly sometimes needs a little force to clip it together and the end result is not always positive as the clipping mechanism is in the plastic and not as positive as it could be. In larger permanent railroads, it can be difficult to hide all the joints as if the temperature of the building changes than expansion and contraction of both the plastic and metal can mean that it is not possible on a long run to do it without some gaps. I prefer it to the old track in permanent situations when the funding is available as the cost is high compared with the old track. 4Dealer fine, Fastrack connections unreliableDepsite tight connections and clean track/trains, trains frequently stall on temporary layout around Christmas tree placed on hardwood. This requires a track rebuild wherever stall occurs, then trains work again only to stall later on another piece of track. Frustrating and bummer for kids.Lionel should have designed the Fastrack connections better. If I used Fastrack on a permanent build, I would wire every piece of track to the power terminal and screw it down. But before undertaking that endeavor, I would try another brand of track. 2Most units won't work correctlyYou need to buy these at your local Lionel dealer where you can open and test them for function prior to buying. I had ordered three from Amazon. both sellers are great, trainworld is obviously a top tier hobby dealer, but the product is just no good. no QC out of the china factory on these latest batches. I had bad non-operable remote switches on 2 of the 3, and the third had the lantern on a 45 degree wonky angle which is a super common problem with these and should be able to be user adjusted... they are not.. Of the three I tested at my local dealer, 2 were also bad. At the price point of these, It's a heart breaker. if I had to do it over again, I would have used another brand for track... but these are everywhere and in the starter sets, so you kind of just get sunk into them. 2Great way to get expanded track.I didn't follow this layout, I got it because I wanted the crossover, the turn and the 5" straights to make my own layout. I ended up getting it through Amazon Warehouse where the box was smashed, but the parts are perfect. I wasn't planning on keeping the box, and everything worked out great. I would save money again doing that. I ended up getting all that for $47. Where in the local hobby shop would have changed me close to $65, and the retail cost was $75. 5
