    A good first board game for 3 year oldsI've been waiting for my little boy (born January '09) to be able to sit and successfully enjoy board gaming. His father and I both really enjoy games and hope that it will be a part of our family's routine as the boy ages. I had tried Candyland right around his third birthday, but my son just couldn't grasp the concepts of taking turns and there being an object to the game.In addition to Ravensburger Colorama - Children's Game , Snail's Pace Race have been terrific at teaching these concepts in a fun way. SPR is a game that does not require reading...the child just rolls the die or dice and then moves the snail of the matching color one space along the board. It can be tedious once one or two of the snails have finished the race and your child wants to continue rolling until all of the others have finished as well (because any time the die/dice land on a color of a snail that has already finished, you have to re-roll) but I suspect there are some early lessons in probability leaching into their little brains so I don't mind it too much.I would recommend this game for parents of 3 yr olds, definitely, but probably not as highly as the other Ravensburger game linked above.Very high quality as far as bits and box, two thumbs up. 4Teaches taking turns.Great cooperative game for the toddler set.Teaches taking turns and color recognition. It s entertaining for the 2.5y to play with her 5y sister.Roll the colored die and move the snail that matches the color. Root for any color or all colors. 5Quality pieces BORING gameAs expected from Ravensburger, the snail pieces are really nice quality. Unfortunately, the game is completely unengaging. Neither my nearly 5 year old, not my two year old (nor I!) enjoyed this. Disappointing as I was hoping for a game that both kids could play together as the 2 year old is just tarting to participate in games. You just roll dice and guess which snail will win and loss . It s very possible to not have anybody guess correctly, thus no winner. 2Fun cooperative board game for little onesOur family loves this game! At 2 1/2 our kid could learn the rules - and eagerly taught our babysitter how to play, too! It's a great way to learn turn-taking and what it means to "win" in a cooperative, friendly setting. (The snails race each other but all the human players work together to move them based on dice rolls.) Also a fun way to practice basic colors and counting if you're looking for that. 5Good first game that s fun for the whole familyThis game is really simple. It seems too simple to be fun but it actually is! Rooting for your snail to win, and the opportunity for multiple people to pick the winning snail is great. I got this along with a few others as an introduction to games for my 3 year old but the whole family enjoyed it. Sometimes it s nice to just relax and play a simple, fun, silly game without having to explain or argue over the rules. I definitely recommend this game. The snails are larger than I had thought they would be and the game is really sturdy. 5Snail love!This game has sparked the creativity in my 2 yr. old granddaughter. She plays the game, serves tea to the winner, plays hide and seek with snails, dresses in the color of her favorite snail of the day, and celebrates various snail birthdays with homemade cards! It was very easy for him to learn and the game time is quick enough for a young attention span. 5The very best first board game ever!I've been a nanny for a long time with different families and I actually found this game first at a garage sale. It's the perfect first game for a 3 year old because it's so easy for them to set up and understand. Kids at that age are so clever and will always innocently figure out clever ways to "cheat," so it's a good opportunity to teach them to play fair right off the bat, if you play it in a competitive way. I've bought this game from Amazon twice since I got the original game. The last game I got, we drew another game that was a little more complicated on a piece of paper and used the color dice for that one too, because they do outgrow it rather quickly and it's so well made the parts will last forever! 5This is a great game that has an unusual twistThis is a great game that has an unusual twist..the loser wins too! I'm a speech therapist so this works great in my therapy room and gives the kids a 'turn' at something fun. It is easy set up, intuitive, and nicely made. I'm so glad I purchased this gem. 5Not bad.High quality game pieces. The game itself wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing. It's simple and lighthearted, perfect for a toddler. The fact that the whole thing is completely random can make for a poor game. For instance, my daughter picked the pink snail to win, and in the amount of time it took for ALL of the other snails to cross the line, the pink snail had moved literally 2 spaces. She still had fun rolling the dice and moving the pawns, and I'm sure the next game won't be so lopsided in the rolls, but our first game could have gone better. 4
