Customer Reviews

Hoby Grade RC Crawler for cheap! The Redcat Racing Everest-10 1/10th scale (Red) Rockcrawler is an impressive R.C. Here is what you need to know about it. It is completely 4x4, that is all four tires turn at exactly the same speed no mater what, there are no differentials. That does increase it's turning radius on high traction surfaces like carpet, but that's not what it is designed for. It has a top speed similar to the fast walk of an average adult. It has more than enough power to spin all 4 tires on any surface. It has plenty of articulation, you can easily put a Coke can under a tire and the others will stay on the ground. This is a Hobby Grade truck, meaning it has replaceable parts, digital proportional steering and throttle, oil filled shocks, it even has real fictional bead-locks. The truck is shaft driven from a single motor. It is front steer, but could be modified for 4-wheel steering. (I prefer front steering to 4-wheel) Although I have not yet done so, most of the aftermarket bodies from Pro-Line, Parma, etc. should easily be adaptable to these trucks.I bought this for my 6yr old Daughter for Christmas, I liked it so much I bought the blue one for myself a week later. We have great fun climbing over obstacles together with these trucks. I was worried that the Everest-10 would not live up to the Blackfoots and Clodbusters I had in my youth. I had nothing to worry about! These trucks are built far better (except for the detailed body on the others) and will go places those trucks could never have gone, at least not in stock form. There not fast, but there not meant to be.If your looking for a great Hobby Grade 4x4 crawler that wont break the bank, Look no further. 5Far exceeded expections! This thing has been a beast! Bought for my seven year old sun but we both play with it equally. It really will drive over just about everything in its path. So far we have not found the crawling performance lacking and have not looked to any upgrades in that department. We did install a $10 motor which gives a little speed bump. I think it is a 35t and it seems just about right performance for this model. The stock motor is perfect for real crawling but is way too slow for anything else. The truck has been well abused and has only had a broken servo arm ($4 part) so far. I have no concerns about it's durability and the availability and low price of replacement parts makes me unconcerned about putting it up to some abuse.Go for this model without hesitation if you are looking for a simple crawler that performs. 5Best thing i bought in a while.I bought a few things on here lately and most was stuff i returned. This is probably the best the i bought in a long time. I upgraded it and still working on it. You can move the lower links and shock mounts to give it a longer wheel base softer suspension. I bought a wraith also but havent even tried it out yet. Im disabled and was looking for a hobby where i could still try to work on trucks. Right out of the box this thing is pretty cool. Its not fast but its not ment to be. Im working on making aws but havent figured out the programing of remote to program 3rd channel, so i have only been able to get it to crab walk. If you are looking to get into the hobbie this truck is a pretty good starter. 5This crawler is as good, if not better because of price then a ...Bottom line. Beginners, experienced. Doesn't matter. This crawler is as good, if not better because of price then a stock stripped Traxxas. Don't get me wrong, Traxxas makes quality products, but apparently so does Redcat. Got this for my 3yo boy that was to nervous breaking my 100+mph Slash. All I got to say is WOW, Great job Redcat. Awesome truck guys! Do your homework folks, Amazon alone offers lots of replacement parts just in case. Definitely a great buy! 5This is a beast! Just do yourself a favor ...This is a beast! Just do yourself a favor and buy the upgraded 3000 batteries and a balance charger, if you don t have one. Takes about 30 minutes to charge, has more power and lasts longer. Also upgrade the servo. Mine went out in a few weeks of driving. I would ve given this if the sevro didn t fail. 4Cheap build, broke easilyFirst, the bad:- Out of the box, ESC and radio receiver weren't glued down and flopping about.- 10 minutes of bashing on a few stairs in my backyard and the front CV shaft splintered.- Gearbox has no box/casing so all the gears are exposed to sand/dirt/gravel- I knew before I bought it but 2000mah NiMH battery is kind of weak. Maybe include a LiPo battery instead.- Body is thin plastic, a cage would've been nicer to protect the motor/electronics if the crawler rolls or tumbles. The good:- Cheap, cheap, cheap. Did I say, cheap? I will explain shortly why.- Compatible with Axial SCX10 parts (is a clone) so you can pick your choice of mods/upgrades- Nice crawl control- Motor seems strong enough- Lots of metal in the drivetrain and suspension.- For $100, you can upgrade both - complete front/rear axle assemblies to all metal and still have $150 in your pocket compared to an Axial Wraith.- Crawls and articulates pretty good with 4-link suspensionSo while I am sad about having broken the front CV within first 10 minutes of playing with it, I am excited about modding/upgrading this puppy :D 3Unbelievable purchase!I have been an avid R/C fanatic most of my life and Im nearly 40. I use to only buy name brands, but listen.....don't get hung up on that like me. Redcat is a legitimate company folks, selling quality R/C vehicles for all budgets and their parts supply is done well too. However, to speak on this specific truck....I took a chance, since this was my first and have more since; Im not even sure what to say, its just good. I am amazed that this kind of vehicle can be obtained for what they are selling it for. Overall, I have put this truck through everything and its worked weekly climbing. I have had this product since April of 2016 and have never broken a part! Its been nothing but flawless. I upgraded the RX to spectrum so I could use my main radio, but even to that the stock electronics performed just fine. I will upgrade the ESC and motor just because Im a junky for tech, albeit this truck is no speed demon but then again it isn't designed to be (know what your buying). Everything about this truck is great, very good articulation and alot of metal in this truck too. Tires are a bit to hard but Pro-line will help you fix that :-). Fastening hardware might throw you off a bit as most of it is Phillips/4Way style mixed with Allen/hex style heads, but its fine no problems so far.Would I buy this again? Hell yea, been great fun. 5Stop thinking and do it, great buy!Update: put a cage, 35t motor, 25mm spacers with 2.8inch wheels. Man it made it a beast. This is what I decided to go with after a few months of debating on whether to burn 400 to 500 on a rc crawler. It is my first and after seeing the higher end ones in action like the axial and traxxas, I'd say theres not much of a difference. Sure you're gonna break some parts and parts will fail for no reason, but the price is what sells this beast. And yes this thing is an animal. I did order a couple parts after reading up on many posts about what parts most often fail. So I ordered a set of lockers, axles, and a 20kg servo. I did swap out the lockers just cause 90% of owners said they will blow out soon. The first thing to actually fail is the servo/steering box, and it did after about 4 days or about 8 hours of use. Luckily I already had the other one and swapped it out. Man what a difference that made. I had to reduce the steering so it wouldn't snap anything apart. The factory one I had set at 100%, this one 40%. I'll update later on but for now I'd put this up against any crawler out there. Seriously. For just a little over 200 bucks I think its a great way to get into the hobby.I use it in the house all the time, lol. My daughter loves playing with it and flipping it back over. It climbs everything! She puts pillows up it climbs up on the sofa. It's like her little puppy friend. 5A great value on a solid beginner's hobby grade crawler.Although I have a lot of experience in RC flying, I am new to the truck side of the hobby, particularly rock crawling, so my opinions here should be taken as being from a non expert user. On a whim I recently purchased a Maisto Rock Crawler from the local discount store for $29. After trying it out at the local parks I was fairly taken with the challenges of crawling and figured it would be worth a small investment to get a hobby grade crawler, hence I ordered the Everest 10.Although Redcat has some negative comments from prior models, the Everest line seems to get pretty good reviews. I found the truck to be fairly well built considering the very entry level price. There are a few plastic parts where metal probably should have been used, but if it had been built with the upgraded parts from the beginning, the price would probably be nearer the $200 point.Specifically the locking mechanisms on the drive system are plastic, and from what I read eventually will wear and need replacing. You can order an aluminum hop up part here on Amazon for about $16 - $20 (depending on whether you prefer OEM or after market supplier) that will fix this problem for good. There is one of these in the front and rear drive, so keep that in mind. Personally I'm going to run mine stock until it tears up and then upgrade it.The plate on the bottom of the truck that the suspension fastens to is also hard plastic. It also can be upgraded at a reasonable price.I have no real complaints regarding the stock truck, but performance could probably be improved down the road with better tires, and possible some wheel weights as the truck is a bit top heavy with the stock NIMH battery. You could also switch to a lipo battery and reduce the weight and top heaviness by reducing the weight of the battery for a given capacity. Wheel weights could also be used. The big advantages of buying this truck over a cheaper Toy Grade one for less money are many. It will perform much better right out of the box due to the fact that it has fully proportional steering and speed control, unlike the toy ones that are strictly on/off left/right control. Secondly if something breaks on most toy grade trucks, you toss it and buy another one. With this truck, you can replace any part on it, many times with an upgraded one repairing and upgrading at the same time. Most parts from the Axial AX-10 will fit this truck, as it is basically an AX-10 clone. Not everything will directly fit, so do some research before ordering Axial parts.A small version of the Everest, a 1:16 scaler is also available if you want something a bit smaller, however for the small difference in price, and the expanded availability of parts and upgrades for the 1:10 scale, I think it is the best value for the money. If you aren't an old child (60) like myself, and are thinking of this as a gift for a child or grandchild, I can't imagine them not being thrilled to find this under the tree on Christmas morning.Overall, I would give it an A+ as a solid beginners truck that can be upgraded to grow with you as you grow in the hobby. Do remember however that this is a "crawler". It is geared low for climbing and overcoming obstacles...it could be a bit boring if you are just going to run it around on level ground, a parking lot. or trails. If that is the case, you might want to look into a Scale 4WD truck instead of a crawler. 5Best Crawler for the money. (*updated with first part failure*)**Update**Just like previous reviewer's noted my steering arm broke after a 2 hrs of rock climbing. Not a big deal and I still love this crawler but rather a heads up to buy a spare servo arm to have on hand. I don't think this is a product defect either but the result of hard crawling***PROS:-Great value for overall entry level crawler-nice adjustable controller-battery lasts forever, I've yet to finish it but should last 45m-1hr.-comes with battery and charger-out of the box it's ready to run-LIPO ready up to 3sThis crawler is very capable and can climb over huge logs without an issue. It's unstoppable.CONS or improvements:-You will want to upgrade tires for any serious crawling-servo is decent but easy to upgrade if you want better-plastic lockers are prone to failure. metal upgrades available-make sure to lubricate both diffs with some teflon dry lube or similar 5
