I think its a great starter vehicleThis was my first RC truck, I think its a great starter vehicle. It isn't a bank killer, and I feel it performs pretty well. I gave it 4 stars because it was missing a couple screws out of the bottom of the chassis. Not a big deal to me, but QC could have been better, even considering the price point. I ordered some screws on Amazon here for a nominal price and replaced the missing ones.As far as performance goes, I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I was very happy with it. I did a lot of research before ordering this and I am glad I did. I have been pretty rough with it, crashing it into curbs and trees, and also did some jumps. Over the past several months I have managed to bend a shock, break the front bumper, and break off a part of the plastic chassis where the bumper mounts. I have replaced the chassis with an aluminum one, and replaced 4 of the shocks with aluminum ones. Also purchased a new bumper. After my research I was prepared for breakages like this knowing it was part of the hobby to replace and upgrade parts. I never had issues with any electronics, they all worked flawlessly. I did have the servo saver come loose, and I used some loc-tite and re-tightened it. I haven't had any further issues with it.I purchased another battery to run it with, a 5000mah NiMh battery. I think the runtime on the stock battery was about 10 minutes or so.Recently, have upgraded to a brushless motor (3500) and a 60amp ESC. I also upgraded the pinion and spur gear to steel ones. Will soon purchase a Lipo battery for it. I do expect to break more parts with the speed upgrades, but it is very fun to work on. I was also pleased to find you can order aluminum replacement parts for this directly from China for pennies on the dollar. The part numbers are different but you can find them easily with an auction site search. They are typically listed with an HSP part number, if you search for the Redcat aluminum part number, sometimes it will come up in an item along with an HSP part number, then do a search for the HSP part number and you can find some really good deals. I have a spreadsheet with all the part numbers I found if anyone is interested. 4For this price point the truck is super fun and plenty fast for a beginner or even ...For this price point the truck is super fun and plenty fast for a beginner or even intermediate driver. Looking at this truck for a beginner or just for some low budget fun, I feel the truck really performs as well as one could expect.I purchased a 3500 battery as well and it gives the truck a little more speed. I bought it for a Christmas gift and I should have gotten one for myself too! There are plenty of upgrade parts and spare parts available as well, so no worries if you break something.Thank you for a really nice product. 5Everything seems to be great, except wheel alignmentThis vehicle is very strong and can run on high grass. Absolutely, it is attributed to 4 wheel drive. Everything seems to be great, except wheel alignment. There was limitation to adjust toe a certain degree. Specially the rear wheel is too much toe-in condition. Battery runs about 10 min (not measured exactly) and my kids is pleasant enough with this running time. Another notice, wheel bearing, which is made of plastic. It should be more advanced one in this range of price RC vehicle. 4Awsome cheap Hobby rc carI am not sure where the bad reviews for this car comes from, I have been giving it hell from rock climbing to jumping the steps in the stair, it has been 2 weeks, and I haven't been able to break anithing of this car, (No that I am looking for it), But if it happens it is definitely from abuse, and that is something this car can take.I dismantle the gears because a clicking noise and turns out it was a little rock that got in, for my surprise all the gears ar metal exept for one, which you can buy for about 10 here in amazon, so that will be my second upgrade. I saw that the esc has an option for lipo, so i went ahead and bough a 2s 20c Lipo 500mha Changed the jumper, and now this truck has the devil inside. I measured top speeds, with the nimh battery is about 17mph, with the lipo it bumps upto 24~25 mph So far very happy with my purchase, and thinking on buying another one for my kid 5Christmas fail!It came in an Amazon box that was twice the size needed and nothing to secure or pad it during shipping. It looked like it might have been opened, but I could not be sure it it was from shipping. My son opened on Christmas morning and after setting it up, it ran once. Their wasn t information in the manual or online to help, so I returned to Amazon. It seemed like a nice car so I decided to just replace it. When the second arrived, it had a completely different set of instructions (more complete) and a different remote control (one that matched the product description. It seems like the first I ordered may have had mismatched items in it. If this car works as it should, I will upgrade from one star to four 18 year old - best christmas gift - awesomeMy son wanted an RC car who is 8 years old. My gut was to get a cheap POS like the past two years which lasts about 2-3 months. My wife smacked me and said to finally spend some $$$ and get one that would last and keep his attention. This RC car was a 5 star in my mind. All upgradeable and replaceable components.Upon first use - he takes it out in the driveway and goes into the snow banks - never getting stuck and this thing is wicked fast. He does a forward roll into one of the snow banks and looks back at me with a smile that I knew was 100% true acceptance of an awesome RC car. 5This car is great for its priceThis car is great for its price, you have to keep in mind that there are some upgrades that in my mind are mandatory (lipo). I would suggest that you move the pinion gear closer to the spur gear or else inevitably it will start to grind ( I know from expearience and had to recut the spur gear's teath). Also your main drive shaft will come loose from time to time but all you have to do is tighten the allen screw and put some superglue in there to make it stay. The upgrades I would suggest are getting a metal spur gear, and a 2s Lipo. This is just the info I would liked to have known before I bought this given I am 13 and am very particular about how I spend my money. 5Excessive amount of tire wobble that only increases with use. Right out of the box the unit had a little more than normal tire wobble, but we figured what the heck it was not as expensive as some RC cars. After about 10 hours of running or less the tires got to wobbling so bad that it would get the shaking and veer off course causing a crash that damage the front. Not very happy with this purchase. Called redcat support, They offered no assistance, due to the fact the unit was purchased around Christmas time. 1Fast! Great "Beginner" Hobby RC Car!This was my little brother's Christmas gift this year. He really loves it! Growing up, I've had lots of RC cars, but never one like this. I guess it falls under a category of it's own - kind of in between a "professional" hobby RC race car (like a gasoline powered) and smaller electric RC cars that you can buy off the shelf at any retail store.This goes fast! It also has a great range for remote control. The only thing that isn't really that great is the battery which is kind of expected (also why I didn't take a star off for it). It takes about 3 hours to charge to play for maybe a total of 15-20 mins. Now, that being said, I do have to disclose that's 15-20 minutes of taking it full speed through grass/dirt/bumps. I'm sure you'd get a lot more use out of it playing with it on concrete.This ended up being an awesome gift for an 11 year old. I'm 30 and I feel I would like one just as well! 5Great car and better service.I was pretty into hobby rc cars and trucks as a kid in the 80s. When my son wanted one for his tenth birthday, I started my search and realized a lot has changed! After a lot of reviews and searches, ended up with this model. It came assembled with everything I needed. Only two minor issues needed attention that are completely acceptable in the hobbby world.1. It wouldn t turn. Needed a simple adjustment to the steering linkage. No issue at all.2. After one use, the soder joint in the charger (within the plastic plug) came detached. A short email to red racing and they shipped a new charger out without issue. Issues can happen but good companies stand behind their product and fix the issue. That s great customer service. Well done.I highly recommend this. I did upgrade to a 5000a battery. Much faster and longer run times 5
