Customer Reviews

Same great game with super cheap quality cardsThis copy of Bohnanza does not have the original Bohnanza game quality. It is really cheap. I had to replace a version that we have had for over 10 years. This is a family favorite and even though everyone has grown up, they still want to bean farm at family gatherings. So the quality is really sad.Bohnanza is a great game. Every kid in the family has learned to play at about 7-8 years old. It is a great interaction game. Wait for a decent copy and then buy it! 3Why do we love Bohnanza, let us count the waysPicture this, you've arrived at your friends house, and you talk about the latest movies that are out while you are getting some snacks ready for game night. It's your turn to pick a game, and you pull out... *drum roll*** pddddddddd (how do you spell a drum roll?)Bohnanza!Your friends are super confused because of this slightly obscure game. After what seems like an entire game of catching up and learning the rules, one of your friends actually wins even though they haven't been played this game at least 2 dozen times like you have. (I still haven't figured out a strategy that works every time for this game)The next time you go to your friends house, they want to play Bohnanza! but you tell them that you didn't bring it. "That's okay, we bought it!"That's how Bohnanza has gone down for us. It's so fun, and very accessible (even though the rules are a little tricky the first go around). Bohnanza has been a staple in our board game stash.Recommended! 5Makes me want to be a bean farmer.Perpetually one of my family's favorite games. Both the 3+ and 2-player rules offer a fun and fast-paced game that is easy to learn and well-balanced enough that new and veteran players can enjoy themselves. The premise: You are a bean farmer and must generate the most cash by planting, growing, and harvesting various types of beans. The Gameplay: You start with a hand of cards. Each card is a type of bean (Green, Garden, Chili, etc). You always must plant the first card in your hand by playing the card face-up in front of you. You have the option to plant the next card in your hand. If it matches first, play it on top of that card and grow your beans. If it is a different type of bean, plant it next to the first card. You then draw two cards face-up in front of you and you must either plant them or trade them to other players. This is where the most fun happens and can lead to such sentences as, "I'll give you 2 Chili Beans for a Stink!" If you are stuck with a card and your two allowed bean fields are full, you must either buy a 3rd bean field or harvest something you already planted. The act of harvesting earns you coins based on how many cards/beans you had stacked in your field. This gameplay continues until the deck has been exhausted and the discard pile is reshuffled twice. Once the deck runs out a third time, the game is over, and the player with the most coins wins. 5Fun, moderately-paced, garden-theme, semi-interactive card game. Highly recommended!Bohnanza is a great, garden-themed card game with mixed play mechanics. In the game you are a gardener who plants bean fields and harvests them for coins. The player who gathers the most coins wins. The card artwork is appealing and fun.The game is stunningly rich despite that it consists of only a deck of cards; this has to do with the gameplay rules and flow. Each play consists of a mandatory action, optional action(s), a bartering phase and a deck-building phase. You must plan ahead without rearranging the cards in your hand! The rules change depending on the number of players (2-7) to keep the game balanced, playable, and fun. This is a great game to become acclimated to a cerebral, European-style strategy game without taxing your brain or wallet too much. 5Sounds like such a lame gameSounds like such a lame game, until you play it. A lot more depth to it. The negotiating trades can lead to a lot of laughter. That being said the game can be very competitive as others may need the same bean card. The game is thoroughly enjoyed by our gaming group. The ages of the player often range 15, 20, 66, 81. This game seems to appeal to many different age groups. You will be rewarded with a good game experience if take time to learn the rules . After a couple of play throughs and your group doesn't like the game you may need new friends. This game is that good. I Seriously recommend this game. 5Very fun strategy game for less serious playersThe first time I played this game was with a dutch friend and I immediately fell in love with it. It took a couple of years before they came out with an English version and I couldn't be happier. This is a great strategy game for less hardcore game players. I love playing games like Risk, Settlers of Catan, or Puerto Rico, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find people to play with. This game is great because it is easy for people to learn and it moves rather quickly. We can easily finish a 3-5 player game in an hour which makes this a huge plus with less committed game players. We busted this out at Christmas with the in-laws and one game quickly turned into ten over the course of several days. There is a decent amount of strategy to this game but it is simple, which makes it more appealing to a wider audience. If I could get people to player the numerous versions of Settlers or Risk more often this one would probably be put on the back burner, but given that most people don't prefer to sit and play games for hours on end, this game is a great option. 5To give it a easy description it is a strategy trading gameI was introduced to this game by a group of friends. To give it a easy description it is a strategy trading game. I could go into great detail but I'm sure that there are better places to get the game synopsis than me. Its best with bigger groups and it does have a bigger learning curve than the average game. Once you get a good group that understands the game well, it begins to flow much better and thats when the fun starts to happen. Instead of worrying about how to play and the steps involved. The instructions in the game are well written and clear to understand. The illustrations are fun, the game is displayed in the box well. The cards are not some cheap card like you could find by buying a deck of face cards at the dollar store. Overall i think it is a great game. The reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because the learning curve is a little high so it does make the process longer. Once everyone is over the learning curve then the fun will begin! I hope I talked you into getting the game! Enjoy!:) 4Best game ever.We got hooked on this one the first time we played and had to buy our own copy. Every time we play with friends they also get hooked on it and want a copy. This game is so much fun, and so simple to learn, and it makes for a really great party game. We love hosting game nights with this game, and always get requests to play it. Highly recommended to play with a group, but it's still fun even with 2 people! 5One of my favorite party/negotiation games of all time - A classic for any game lovers to ownThis is perhaps one of my favorite games of all time - easily in my top 5. There are trading/bartering/bargaining of the beans for each player's turn. That being said it can be played with brand new people but it is Best played with people you know as this negotiation phase can get quite hilarious (lots of alliances made, stabbing friends in the back and "I owe you" trust exercising going on). I play this game with my family for our monthly game night - The game can be played in about 30 minutes but our sessions usually last 1-2 hours when 5 of us are playfully arguing and giving each other a hard time through-out the game :) You "can" play this game with 2 people but I wouldn't recommend it as the negotiation phase becomes extremely predictable and boring (A little to "Go Fish" like). The rules may seem complicated to start but once you actually begin playing it unfolds to new learners quite nicely. Pour the wine everyone cause when you bring this game out things are gonna get a little rowdy! ^.^ 5Fun game with a bizarre theme of planting beansFun game with a bizarre theme of planting beans. It is a hard sell if you just tell anyone what the game is about, but the game plays in an enjoyable manner. In my opinion, this game suffers from an issue similar to Catan in that new players tend to barter very openly which ends up leaving most of the game to chance rather than skill.Additionally, this game could be in a way, way smaller package. It comes with some game boards that are totally unnecessary to play. I wish it were just in a deck box so that it could go in a pocket instead of in a backpack. 4
