For that reason, once I took it out from the plastic bag, most of the woodpecker's feathers were ripped off. Also, the base is so light that when you try to put the toy in a flat base, it moves and fall. 2Nice little toy!This thing amazes me! It's fun to watch and its bouncy feather is hilarious. A nice little office desk toy to bring one out of boredom. The only complaint that I would have is on the packaging of the item, the manufacturing company (Schylling or whomever) should wrap the spring with some sort of foam to prevent it from bending in transit. The Item just comes in a bag with the only padding being the one provided by Amazon. So when I received the woodpecker, it was all sad looking and bent. Luckily I bent it back into shape and it works flawlessly but I am sure there could be instances where it could be bent worse and there would be no way in getting it into working order. 4Fun for the Physics and Natural Science loverIf my 6 year old would stop bending the metal stick part this little bird would wittle his way down just fine.....but he LOVES IT......it's everything but a bird going down this stick for him.......so it's great for his imagination.....I personally like the thing.....but he totally hogs it...... 5Would have loved it if it had worked.The woodpecker simply drops done the pole, no pecking just a .5 second free fall done the pole. 100% unsatisfied. 1Cute little woodpecker. No. But, it's cute and does what it's supposed to pretty well. Sometimes it slides down on its own without "pecking", but for the price and for the smile on my kids face (it was a little post doctors appointment surprise), totally worth it. 4Terribly Disappointing - poor qualityMaybe some of these are better than this one, but this one is really poor quality. The rod is bent and will not go vertical. The bird/rider skips over big sections of the rod, greatly reducing the time it spends going down. Simple but fantastic product. 5Great Demonstration for the Engineering Team!! - Sandpaper the Rod to Make it Better -Used this as a demonstration of friction lock for the engineering team. Great way to demonstrate moment arm and friction. Demonstration is much better than talking to explain the principle. Once you see it, you will recognize what it is, and avoid it in designs.The rod was initially very slippery. It worked, but went down too fast. Used a piece of sandpaper about 300 grit to sand the rod. Rotate the rod between a folded piece of sandpaper. After that, it was amazing, the bird just came alive. Now it comes down slowly making the wood pecking sound as it was meant to do. If it can make an engineers smile, is a good toy! 5
