    Terrific product for teaching chess to my grandson.I purchased two sets -one for me and one for my grandson who is learning chess. He will learn more quickly with these Staunton pieces since this design is typically used and shown in instructional tools. He's also learning chess notation so the soft boards (marked with notation numerals and letters) make our play more straightforward since we play via text message. The product is exceptional quality and surprisingly well done for the cost. 5This is the second of these sets that I have boughtI really like these chess pieces. I actually bought them first about a year ago as part of a vertical chess set I made as a gift for a friend. I really like the weight of them. They feel high quality and solid. They're plastic but the casting lines are minimal. It's a great value to be sure, about $13.50 when I got them.The set comes with two extra queens in case you are a much better, or luckier player than I am. Mine actually had an extra pawn in it, so, apologies to the person who left the review about being short one.They look really nice on 2" squares, but I think they'd be fine on slightly larger or smaller. I've attached a picture for reference. I got these with the Wegiel Professional Tournament Chess Board, No. 5 (http://a.co/cWU6YN8) and they go together nicely.Definitely recommend these for good, standard, and affordable chess pieces. 5and the weight really does feel nice. I had a problem with a few piecesDecent quality set for the money. They are weighted, and the weight really does feel nice. I had a problem with a few pieces, and contacted customer service. They sent me replacements promptly so I cannot complain about the set. The extra queens were a nice touch. I have played a few games with them so far and they wok well. A good buy! 4perfect for chess loversI used to belong to a chess club. These pieces are excellent tournament size pieces just like in the chess club. The quality, look and feel are just perfect. If you are a chess lover these chess pieces are just the right size. The price was also good because I've seen these in stores selling for as much as $39. You don't get the chess board but I have a large board which I'm now using with these pieces. Anyway this is a great deal for all serious chess players. 5A Pretty Decent ValueI've been teaching my daughter to play chess for the last few years and her interest in the game is really growing. Even though we own wooden and stone chess sets, this is the first plastic "outdoor" set we've invested in, something to take to the park on the off chance that the ducks aren't hungry for bread.Overall the quality of this set is pretty good: the queens provided (extra queens too!) are free of sharp crowns; the pieces' weights seem to stay in place; and I have yet to see any chipping or cracking due to excessive handling. Granted we're not slam-bam bang it down on the board speed chess players, so I don't know how these pieces would hold up to that type of rigorous play, but I can say these are perfect for our needs.Overall, the price and quality of these pieces is fairly competitive. They look good and, more importantly, feel good in your hand... which is starting to make me think everything in this world should be triple-weighted.Update - 10/30/11 - Having used the pieces for a while the only problem we've run across is the weak adhesive used to connect the felt bottoms to the plastic. I've had a half dozen or so come off during the time we've had them, only to reattach each one with superglue. Not a big deal, I suppose, but still you'd think they would have addressed that problem since this variety of plastic piece has been on the market for some time now. 5cheap plastic - some pieces cracked one pawn broken in halfsome pieces cracked one pawn broken in half -- cheap plastic 1Solid FeelEverything came in one piece, no chipped or broken pieces. A few of the weights are loose and rattle around if you shake the chess piece, but who shakes their pieces during play? They feel nice and solid to play with - much more satisfying for me than a hollow plastic chess piece. 5Nicest set I could find for 1.75" squaresDecent weight. Heavy enough they don't get knocked over by shirt sleeves and to feel satisfying when you move them.I was worried they'd look cheap but they don't. They look like plastic but nice plastic. Smooth and pretty. Seams are more noticeable in photos than IRL.I have a gorgeous granite table top "board" with oddly small squares, so I searched for hours on amazon trying to find something substantial yet not too big. This is what I settled for (wasn't expecting much) and am actually quite pleased.I noticed some people complained about the felt bottoms but they are fine--nice, even--no problems/complaints here. 4Thin hollow plastic pieces break too easilyTo my surprise, this set only lasted until the first time the bag fell on the floor. Turns out, these lovely looking and lovely weighted pieces are hollow and made out of a cheap plastic. Oh well. You get what you pay for, I guess. 2Garbage.Triple weighted ....yet hollow plastic pieces. Therefore, weighting these pieces was a waste of time. What good is weighted pieces when they snap in half extremely easily. This set actually arrived with one of the pawns already snapped in half either due to shipping or it was packaged that way. Sure, you save money with this set, but really, are you saving any money when the product you receive is garbage? 1
