Perfect for the reader in your life.Gave several pre Chritsmas puzzles as a gift for my roommate who is a puzzle snob who prides herself on completing the most difficult 20 million piece puzzles. Know the type? Anyway, she immediately proceeded to work on this one first and utterly enjoyed the process She said it was an "nice" challenge, in great part, because she enjoyed the wonderful theme.This is the perfect puzzle for the big reader in your life. With each additional piece you could see classic books come alive...once again. Pieces fit nicely together, without having to be forced. Excellently carved. Quality puzzle. My friend rated this a 5 (as 1k puzzle pieces go).Highly recommended. 5Great Conversation StarterMy family of four (7y.o., 12 y.o. hubs and me) had a ball putting this together and talking about the books as they materialized. My kids were so intrigued by the stories and they pretty much used this as a future reading list. It was really fun reliving the books with them and seeing the interest sparked by this marvelous puzzle.It's 1000 pieces, but on the bright side, each of the book covers creates it's own little frame which made it easier to work with as opposed to those darned sky scene or meadow of flowers, etc. We started at Christmas and my 7y.o. would wake and spend an hour a morning on it by herself. We finished it at a leisurely pace in a week. It was wonderful. 5Nice puzzle, bad qualityI ve had White Mountain puzzles before and they ve been great quality, which is why I m so disappointed with this one. The picture on the box didn t match the puzzle (some of the books were different) but my biggest hang up was that MULTIPLE images had come off of the actual puzzle pieces. So not only am I putting a puzzle together, I m also kinda doing a puzzle within a puzzle because I have to match up all these paper images to the cardboard puzzle pieces. There are also several puzzle pieces where the images are lifting up. I m hoping that the puzzle comes together in the end, and I m willing to tolerate the horrible quality because I plan on applying puzzle glue to the whole thing anyway. However, if I d bought this just as a puzzle to do on a table and then disassemble, I would have returned it. 2GREAT PUZZLECould not be more happy with this purchase. Pieces are large, but not so large you feel like you're doing a child's puzzle. Color is very true, and texture is low glare and pleasingly tactile. Pieces lock together well. As with above review, great literary discussions were spawned. Easily completed in an evening. Highly recommended this holiday season, would make great gift, or just to have out during parties. You'd be surprised who can't resist the lure of a puzzle. Also, received puzzle before expected and in perfect condition. Will be returning to this seller. 10 out of 5 stars. 5Straightforward assembly, hard to stop, large, and well madeWhite Mountain's "Best Sellers" 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle offers straightforward assembly and interesting content. It is rather large. The red line border simplifies putting the edge pieces together. Like a good book, it's hard to stop once begun.I Never heard of "Bare Fists" by Marshall Hall (2nd cover in 2nd row). Maybe it's to prove the truth of the sign in the middle (near the eyeglasses: "You can't judge a book by its cover"). Only one book appears twice, with different covers: "Black Beauty" (3rd book 3rd row, and next to last book last row).A few authors are represented by multiple titles -- George Orwell: "1984" and "Animal Farm", Charles Dickens: "Oliver Twist" and "A Tale of Two Cities", E.B. White: "Stuart Little" and "Charlotte's Web", John Steinbeck: "The Grapes of Wrath" and "Of Mice and Men"...Some covers don't show the authors names, but I believe H.G. Wells wrote "The Time Machine" as well as "War of the Worlds" and "The Invisible Man" (the only author with 3 books shown), and Arthur Conan Doyle wrote both Sherlock Holmes volumes...I'm not sure about "The Mark of Zorro" (partially shown between 2 rows in the bottom right corner): apparently that was the name of a silent movie in 1920 starring Douglas Fairbanks based upon 5 serialized magazine stories from the previous year titled "The Curse of Capistrano" by Johnston McCulley; after the success of the movie, the stories were republished using the movie name.This jigsaw puzzle is well made and I recommend it. 5See commentsNeed new director in a quality control. I ll bet I ve purchased at least 50 white mountain puzzles (I call them doable and interesting) but this last one is poorly constructed. A lot of the back side cardboard is pealing. My table has a pile of bits of backing pieces. Never experienced this before. Interesting comment I heard in a toy shop when I asked why the owner didn t carry more WMPs he told mr they are made too cheaply. Common puzzle guys... make um better. 1Great puzzle but the picture on the box and the ...Great puzzle but the picture on the box and the finished puzzle were different. In the upper left, The Secret Garden was actually The Cat in the Hat and in the bottom right, Papillon was actually The Secret Garden (but a completely different picture than the one on the upper left). The pieces fit together nicely and I love White Mountain puzzles. This was one of the easier ones to finish. 4Fun, but not well glued.It's a fun puzzle, and has easy and harder bits, but the quality was lacking. The backing was not glued on very well, so there were a lot of pieces where the backing came off - or at least part of it. I've attached a photo of the completed puzzle with the little pile of purple backs that we found as we went through the box. This also means that some of the pieces were rather thin, so you had to be a little careful. Still, it all fit together, so we were satisfied. White Mountain may want to check on their quality control, though. 3I don't love the fit of the piecesMeh. I don't love the fit of the pieces; I often questioned whether I had it right. I didn't love how much dust was in the box. I didn't love that one piece was missing.I did love the picture, and it was probably easier than a 1,000 (well, 999) piece puzzle should be due to the color blocking of the book covers. Would I purchase from this company again? Probably not. 3Poor quality!I order puzzles frequently to work with my grandmother, who is in her 90 s. She has always preferred White Mountain because of the picture and puzzle quality. We started sorting the pieces and noticed a large number of pieces that were very poorly made. The picture on the pieces were peeled off or peeling from the cardboard. (Attached picture). This poor quality was very disappointing and we will be looking for a new company to frequent. As my grandmother said they must not be doing very well because they are cutting corners and making a poor quality product now. 1
