Customer Reviews

Pretty Close - definitely recommend these, though!VERY CLOSE, actually - I got my bag-o-dice today and immediately set to sorting them all out. I got 14 sets of 7 and one set of 6 - I'm missing a single D6 from one set. That's not really huge problem, I only needed full sets for 10 players, I'm making gift bags, so the remainder of the sets will be added to my own collection, but very technically speaking I didn't receive 15 full sets.Still, they're all pretty interesting colors and patterns, none of the ugly solid-color things that most assortments seem to come with. I got a full set each of the following: Faerie Fire, Basilisk Blood, Mountain Heart, Boiled Bile, Arcane Aura, Abyssal Mist, Dwarven Brandy, Swamp Ooze, Lucid Dreams, Stardust, Royal Bubblegum, Astral Echoes, Philosopher's Stone, and King's Ransom. The short set I got is Drowskin, which actually took me a little while to figure out because it's not quite as opaque as the image makes it look, it's much more like a clear smoke color. All in all, the dice are lovely and I didn't actually expect them to sort out so nicely, I was expecting to have a lot of mis-matched sets, so even with the missing dice I'm totally satisfied.Oh, weird detail, though - the four-sided dice are a little small compared to the rest of the types, volume-wise. Not TOO small, necessarily, I just thought it was strange. They're the right "height", but that makes them "feel" or "look" smaller than the others volumetrically. If you put a bunch of other dice around them, it totally hides them from sight, so just be conscious of where you put them or you'll lose track of them quickly. 5Best dice purchase I've ever made! Not much more I could ask for out of a pack like this. The price is definitely worth it, and out of 105 dice, there was only one with any issue (using the salt/water solution to roll). Can't really complain about that either. There were 15 sets of 7. They all look good and I had a great time rolling them. I play D&D and the group I DM for is 7 Players strong, so it's nice to have extra where it's needed, and I also like using separate sets for different things in encounters and fights, so this was a great go-to.Honestly, I was way more pleased with this than my last chessex order, and I think I'll be buying the Wiz Dice from now on! 5More Dice for the Hoard!Because, like many people who play tabletop games, I decided I just didn't have enough dice! I went with this over the Pound-O-Dice because I value full sets over a random assortment. I couldn't be happier with this purchase; This 100+ pack only makes me want to look more into Wiz Dice's other sets, and given that they aren't explicitly said to be Factory Firsts makes me think that the other sets will be of even higher quality. The dice are a little rounded for my tastes, especially the d20, but bounce and roll well enough to make up for it.I received a decent set of randomized dice:Royal Bubblegum, Abyssal Mist, Faerie Fire, Dragon Scales, Dwarven Brandy, King's Ransom, Boiled Bile, Swamp Ooze, Basilisk Blood, Arcane Aura, Lucid Dreams, Mountain Heart, Stardust, Drowskin, and Astral Echoes. I would have loved... any of the blue sets (basilisk blood reads more green than blue to me), but I knew this could happen going in.Quality wise, these dice are pretty good, but definitely not firsts. There's a little variation with some of the sets and their numbers; my eighth photo shows the main difference for me-- some of the threes on the d6's are a totally different font, but this is probably just due to different production runs or aged sets. The bag they came in had sort of a weird texture in it, like maybe some leftover silicone dust or something (like the texture of some rubber gloves), but I figure that will rub off in time. The translucent sets do have some bubbles, but none of them were notably worth complaining about (you can see it on the completely clear set's d20). Continuing with that set, some of the dice appear to have been used or improperly polished-- my 'clear' d6 isn't really clear at all, and some of the sets seem a little more dull then they should. Lastly, many of the dice have imperfect painting. Sometimes this is just a little over the edge, but other times (like with my last two photos) it's either drizzled out of the edges, irregularly filled, or flecked semi-randomly on the die.None of these problems are big enough to dissuade someone else from getting these dice, though! If you want a load of beautiful dice, this is the bag for you. Don't like how a set is inked? Check out a tutorial and re-ink or paint them yourself. Pick these up for yourself or hold onto them for players without dice! Give the colors you don't like away or hoard them in your massive stash! 4A truly random assortment of colours that differ from other reviewers' setsSome reviewers have claimed that this pack is not random and is, instead, a pre-determined subset of all possible dice in this series. However, my packet contained several colours that were not part of the assortment that those reviewers received, so I think there is some degree of randomness. You cannot be sure which 15 colours your set will contain. Here are the colours contained in my set (see photo):Faerie FireBasilisk BloodJade OilDragon ScalesDrwoskinBoiled BileArcane AuraDwarven BrandySwamp OozeStar DustDiamond DustPhilosopher's StoneSylvan SpiritsKing's RansomCloud DropMy set did NOT contain:MountainheartAbyssal MistLucid DreamsRoyal BubblegumAstral EchoesThere is good variety, whatever random assortment you get. I have noticed no flaws or problems with any of the dice.I gave 4 stars instead of 5 due to the fact that some of the colours in this series too too similar. Basilisk Blood and Jade Oil appear very similar (the former with a slight blue tinge and the latter with a slight yellow); they both have gold numerals which can make them difficult to distinguish from one another. Also, Dragon Scales and Philosopher's Stone are also very similar; the former is marbled and the latter is sparkled, but the shade of red is nearly identical and they both use gold numerals. In both of these "twin sets" it would have been better if one of each set had white numerals in place of the gold.Otherwise, I am happy with the purchase and would buy a different series of random Wiz Dice again. 4Really like the colors, but maybe not random at the momentI really like the colors of these dice. However, based on what I received and other reviews at the time of my purchase (September 2016), this is NOT a random assortment of sets as other reviewers have also mentioned, I did not receive Jade Oil, Diamond Dust, Philosopher's Stone, Sylvan Spirits, or Cloud Drop. These are the same sets that other reviewers said they did not get and I could not see any of the colors in any of the current reviewer pictures. This suggests that you get 15 defined sets, not 15 of 20 at random. There are small bubbles in around 1/3 of the translucent sets (the larger the number of sides, the greater probability of a bubble), but they do not appear to affect the role of the dice in so far as I can tell. I did not see any major flaws in the numbers and only one die has a nick in it. Last thing, I did get one extra d10 (0-9) in my pack. 4These Dice Are BEAUTIFUL in Person...But 55/105 failed the saltwater test...I purchased WizDice : Series II : Alchemic Oddities (100+ Pack of Random Polyhedral Dice), for my RPG group. A lot of people kept telling me that the grab-bag-bulk sales out there tend to be seconds , but I still wanted to give WizDice a chance to shine.Let me start by saying that the pictures don't do them justice. These dice are BEAUTIFUL in person. I dare say that they are some of the prettiest dice I've ever seen. The colors remind me of gemstones and candy, and the marbled ones remind me of fancy enameled mother-of-pearl. I posted two pictures: one showing the sets I received and another which is a close up of just the D6s, so you can see the details on the dice better. They have smooth edges and are lighter then Chessex dice, but not too light. I find them very comfortable to hold and use.The sets we received in our pack were:Faerie Fire, Basilisk Blood, Jade Oil, Mountainheart, Boiled Bile, Arcane Aura, Abyssal Mist, Swamp Ooze, Lucid Dreams, Stardust, Royal Bubblegum, Astral Echoes, Philosopher's Stone, Kings Ransom, and Cloud Drop.As I laid them out across my gaming map to take the pictures, I started to fall in love with them. My favorite sets of the bunch were definitely Basilisk Blood and Stardust. Jade Oil, Mountainheart, and Cloud Drop are lovely, too.As I started to inspect them, I noticed that the vast majority of the dice we received had well done and easy to read paint jobs and didn't have any obvious deformations. I only found 12 dice (out of 105) that had any kind of paint errors (such as a small smear, tiny blop, and/or a badly done number). Encouraged by how great they looked and felt, I decided to go all out and give these little beauties the full gauntlet of tests.I started with a light test on the translucent dice, to spot bubbles. I found that, out of the translucent dice I received, 16 had 1-2 tiny to tiny-to-small visible bubbles, an one of the d-4s had a cluster of over 8+ small bubbles in it's center. (It was actually kind of pretty, and surprisingly it didn't seem to effect it's roll by that much.)Then, I did the the saltwater/floating roll tests. Out of 105 dice tested, 55 failed the saltwater test and 50 of the dice passed. The vast majority of fails were in the marbled /more opaque looking ones, including my beloved Basilisk Blood and Stardust. . . I was heartbroken . . . But, I wouldn't give up without a fight, so I continued testing them to pinpoint the problems and degree of impacts on actual rolls. So, next up was doing the roll tests on the 55 that failed the saltwater tests. Each dice was rolled 20 times in two tiers of testing to see if any numbers or sides of the dice came up suspiciously more often then others. For those doing the math, as I know you are : that was 2,200 rolls I had to do. The results were that 34 of the 55 dice turned out to be 'a little wonky' in that they slightly favored one or two numbers or one side/corner of the dice. I can possibly use them for other games, but not for any serious D&D style campaigns. Unfortunately, I also found that 21 of the dice were so unbalanced as to be completely unusable. The findings on the 21 unusable dice were as follows:7 d-12s : favored -11, 11, 11, 11, 8, 9, 33 D-20s : favored 11 , 11 ,116 D-10s: favored 7,3,8,5,9,41 D00s: favored - 004 D-6s : favored 1, 4, 4, 1I hope this data is helpful. In spite of how it turned out, I still love WizDice dice and think they are beautiful, but I would like to know if there is a way to send back the defective unusable dice for replacements or possibly get a refund for the defective ones? 3I rationalize this buy with "it's great for the price"First off, I rationalize this buy with "it's great for the price". Almost immediately after, I remember one can only use so many dice at a time. This pack offer options, but I found there were problems with sets I had my heart set on. There are bubbles (not that big of a deal), holes, and weight issues while doing float tests. These may may prove to be minor/coincidental issues that may not hinder the rolls, but the only way to be sure is to roll each dice hundreds of times.Other than that, the dice are really lightweight and they bounce quite a bit on hard surfaces. Colors are fine and only one set of dice didn't seem to fit the example shown on the chart.I'd recommend these to give to young, first time players or to use for jewelry/decoration. 3Almost half of the dice have bubbles or other defectsSo we'll start off with some pros:* The colors of the dice generally look good.* Unlike many reviewers, I was not missing any dice or sets.* You get several complete sets of dice for a generally cheap price. And now the cons:* 37% of the dice I received had some sort of obvious flaw. These flaws included chipping, major air bubbles, scratching, missing paint, or paint where it shouldn't be.* Injection/mold lines are visible on many dice. This is especially noticeable on the d4 dice. There's a circle that is split down the middle on every d4. Depending on the die pattern, it may or may not stand out. I didn't consider this in my rating because it's likely unavoidable, however on some dice this pattern actually got painted which I did consider in my rating.* Many die feature the same defects in the same places. This points to a manufacturing issue instead of random bad luck.* Every single Boiled Bile die had an issue. I was really bummed by this because this is the color I wanted most.* Air bubbles, air bubbles everywhere. My Astral Echoes were especially bad.* And given the air bubbles, there's no way these are balanced dice.I can't say I'd recommend these if you're looking for dice that look nice. The odds are against you if you're counting on a complete set of dice without defects. If you just need a bunch of dice and don't care about defects or balance, then these are okay I suppose. 2Beautiful colors, guaranteed sets15 sets of dice. Nice variety of colors on the cheap! There were several sets that I really loved, and a few that are somewhat nauseating, but, of course, not everyone has the same tastes! I'm particularly fond of "gem" dice, so getting 5 sets of these was fantastic (although a few are infused with glitter, which isn't quite as appealing to me). I was, however, surprised to discover that I really like what I can only guess to be the "stardust" dice. They are only just translucent, and the flecks of glitter really do give the impression that one is staring into the depths of space (see accompanying image). While some of the dice do show some aberrations (for example, one of the d4 has several numbers that seem to not have been punched and painted fully, therefore making them difficult to read), overall, I'm very pleased with this set and look forward to giving my players their choice of dice (once I've removed the sets I like first, of course!) 5I'd have been happy with this set at twice the priceDice came today! Pretty exciting, as my husband and I are running a couple campaigns together, and we have new players without any dice. We normally tend to just buy single sets of dice if we see designs we like (generally Chessex), but didn't want to drop nearly so much getting our newbies outfitted. So, here's my list of the sets we received! All of the dice seem in good condition, no chips or anything, and I didn't notice any bubbles in the clear colors. The glitter and swirls are all well distributed, no weird blobs. May be some weird spots in the paint on some sides, but that's an extremely easy fix and I don't care so much about that. They have a reasonable weight to them compared to Chessex, but don't feel as light as the cheapo dice you sometimes get with mass-market board games and such.Sets Received:-Faerie Fire-Basilisk Blood-Jade Oil-Dragon Scales-Drowskin-Philosopher s Stone-Swamp Ooze-Sylvan Spirits-King s Ransom-Arcane Aura-Cloud Drop-Diamond Dust-Stardust-Dwarven Brandy-Boiled Bile (Incomplete)You'll notice I've got 14 complete sets and one incomplete. Now, I'm not terribly broken up about Boiling Bile being incomplete - I'm not a yellow fan and I doubt anyone will want to take the "pee yellow" set, ha ha. The set has two D10s but no D8. But, as the product is meant to be 15 complete sets, I did knock one star. Not a terribly big deal overall, but if you were banking on getting an actual 15 you'd perhaps want to be aware. In summary, a sort of TL;DR - I'm satisfied with the dice received. They're nice colors, the dice are a fair quality, and it was overall a really great value. I'd gladly order these again, even knowing I could end up with another incomplete set. After all, at about a buck and a half per set, I have zero complaints, I've paid way more for dice I'm just as happy with.Time to get to work crocheting and knitting dice bags! ;) 4
