Customer Reviews

Fast paced competitive game as you steal Zues and great for practice in adding (and subtracting) to 100.Bought for my 7 and 10 year old, but my 13 year old loved it too. We are competitive so the constant stealing of Zues almost every turn was almost comical as he quickly changed hands. The game is simple: use number (and different special god cards) to get to 100. Whoever is holding Zues at 100 wins the round and spells a letter from ZEUS (win four rounds- wins the game). Some rounds were longer than others depending on if they were being evil and using god cards to drop the count down (I hate Hermes because it would reverse the number, such as 91 to 19, but my kids loved that of course). You also can steal Zues if you make the count hit a multiple of 10 on your turn, or if you have a matching number card you can play out of turn and steal Zues (such as place a 2 on the last 2 in the drawpile. I love that this helps them add in their head, but I also hated it too, because I ended up doing a lot of the math as the count went up and down (and stealing Zues was so exciting they forgot where we were at- 50 would have been better than 100 in my opinion but I see why it needs to be so high with the mischievous god cards). I am tempted to put a calculator on the table while playing, but then they'd loose the "secret" learning feature this game provides. Great game that you can take with you. For faster games, just play one round instead of several. We also bought this with Sleeping Queens and we like both games, but this one slightly more, especially the older kids or kids with short attention spans. 4My new favorite game!Bought this for our family for Christmas. My kids are 7 and 9 and we all had a blast playing it! I like the math practice we're sneaking in, as well as the strategy my husband and I can employ. It's fun to steal Zeus back and forth and play several rounds so my kids may get upset at losing a round (they can be babies about that), but still have the possibility of wining the game. GameWright does it again!! 5Math game that everyone likes?!? Yes!Our whole family loves this game. Myself and my 11 year-old son, my 23 yr old sister, my parents, we all love playing this. There is math involved and strategy as well but most of all it is fun. You also get a little intro into some Greek gods and goddesses. Each card is numbered and you have a hand of several cards. As you play a card, you need to add the value of your card to the pile. It is mostly addition but there is also some subtraction. Not too hard but you have to be able to keep track of the total number in the pile so you know what it will be when you add your card. Play continues until the pile totals 100. Of course there are also tricky cards. One of my favorites is Hermes who flips the value of the pile. If the pile is at 59, it suddenly comes 95. Then someone could play a card that brings it back down to 50.I think it would be good for math teachers to use as well. I teach social studies and although I have SS games, I also brought this in for our tutorial (study hall). The middle schoolers loved it.It is cheap enough that if you don't LOVE it, you haven't spent a ton. But I haven't met anyone yet who hasn't liked it! 5Fun game, but not really a way to learn about Greek gods like I had hoped. We bought this as part of our Greek studies, unfortunately it doesn t have much to do with actual Greek gods. It s actually more of an addition and subtraction game, so we like to play after math as a fun learning activity. 5great for my mythology fans!My kids are currently 6 and 9, and on the heels of a Harry Potter obsession they've since developed an adoration for all things mythological (we're reading Percy Jackson together, my daughter has read the Goddess Girl books, and both like to read the original myths and stories). They love trying to sneak in win by hording god and goddess cards, and the game is as educational as it is fun. My son is in 1st grade and just learning to count my tens. In order to strategize he needs to flex his math muscles, and it helps big sister brush up on hers as well. The rounds move quickly and the cards are nice and thick, so we haven't had issue with them bending or getting damaged. Honestly the only downside about this one is that they sometimes get a little *too* competitive while trying to steal Zeus! Otherwise a funny game that's easy to learn, and enjoyable for all ages (including the adults who play along). 5VERY fast paced!Zeus on the Loose is a very fast paced card game. The Zeus statue flies around the table like crazy. In fact, it probably takes more time to actually swap the statue around than to take your turn. You slap cards down at a frenzy like Crazy 8s... except there's a good bit of math involved here. You have to round up to the nearest multiple of ten quite often. The goal of the game is to get the card pile known as "Mount Olympus" up to 100 or more with Zeus in your posession. You do this by playing number cards, trying to make each move come out to a multiple of 10 so you can steal or keep Zeus. There are many character cards as well that do various actions such as swapping the number of Mount Olympus around, skipping players, or making the count go to 50 or 99 (Hera does the 99 one). Each of these cards has a different god or goddess on it (such as Hera). The pace is fast, and your addition skills need to be sharp as a razor to stay on top of things. My 5 year old struggles with this and needs a great deal of help, and the 7 year old does fine but often forgets to draw her card after her turn.I enjoy the frenzied pace of the game myself but both of the kids are not as enthusiastic and prefer slower, more strategic games where you mull over your strategy such as Horse Show and Sleeping Queens. It is a fun game, and those that are looking for something that moves at a breakneck pace will be well pleased with this purchase. The cards are of high quality and the Zeus statue (though in a single color - without painted details) is well made. It's a good game to break out now and then on game nights. 4Oh my gods.Bought this for my 10 year-old nephew who still has trouble with basic math. This game teaches him to add and subtract quickly and teaches some basic strategy. It's actually a LOT of fun! And the instruction booklet comes with some interesting tidbits on the myths of the gods mentioned in the game. 5My kids love to play this gameMy kids love to play this game. It's easy to learn and we were up and running within 5 minutes of unboxing the cards. The only thing you need (if you want to play a fast-paced game) is a calculator and a scorekeeper that can add and subtract while keeping an eye on the action. I also made tokens (from upcycled cardboard) with the letters Z-E-U-S--one set for each player--so that each player had their own set to turn over once they won a round. It makes things easier to keep track of and it's one less thing for the scorekeeper to keep track of.Gamewright makes card games that my kids love and I've been a fan for years. Zeus on the Loose is the newest of our growing collection! 5Great Game! What a great game! Educational, fun, fast paced. My kids are 6 & 8, and they get such a kick out of beating mom and dad at this game! This is a great way to practice math skills in a fun way, there's adding, subtracting, rounding, multiples of 10, etc. This was a stocking stuffer for my 8 year old who is into Greek Gods after reading the Goddess Girls book series. I'm glad I found this game, it moves fast enough that we can play a few rounds after dinner and enjoy family fun time while practicing basic math skills. Well done GameWright! 5A little disappointed.Had high expectations as this vmcame highly recommended.. my almost 7 year old thought it was too boring. I try to sneak in as much learning as possible through games, but this one she refused to play after a few times as she thought it was too simple. The zeus figure is so cute and so are the cards. I just wish the gameplay appealed more to my child.. 3
