Fun, relatively simple gameI like this game, my kids enjoyed playing it too. Relatively inexpensive and was easy for a nine and seven year old to understand and pick up quickly. Probably played 20 separate times before they started to move on to other games which for the relatively inexpensive price of this game is totally fine with me. I was starting to get bored with it after that many games as well. However for 10 bucks 20 separate occasions of family fun time is still a great value and we play it once in a while still. The best part of this game was that it happened to be aged right for my kids, & I would think older kids as well, with a seven and nine year old often the games are above the seven year olds head or below the 9 year olds so we had fun with this one. It adds to it if you add a little silliness and embrace the brains and zombies and shotguns that are all included on the dice. We may get one of the expansion sets for a future birthday or Christmas if so I will add to this review 4Night of the Living DiceFirst off, apologies for the terrible title. Now, about the game. Steve Jackson is a game designer with a lot of fun games to his credit and Zombie Dice is definitely among the good ones. The object is simple, throw the dice, which represent humans, and try to get as many brains as you can. Each side and color (red, yellow and green, from hardest to easiest) have a different combination of brains (points), feet (throw again) and shotgun blasts (get 3 and no points for you!). You have to throw 3 dice to score points and can bank your points anytime before deciding to throw. The first to 13 points wins.I played Zombie Dice with 6 friends to decide turn order in another board game and we had almost as much fun as with the other game itself! It's great for non-gamers because they get it and connects them to their inner gambler I think. Check it out for a quick, easy and fun game to get into. 5Everyone Loves this Game! Even Grandma!Pro: This game is extremely easy to learn, very fast paced, and the more people you have the more fun it is. A very simple dice game that has the whole party excited with each roll.Con: For more advanced gamers it lacks a little depth, but the expansion helps with that a bit and it s just so darn fun that replaying is never an issue, especially at a party or holiday with the family.Kids: I have a 7 year old and a 5 year old who play and love this game. They love plans vs. zombies so they love the zombie theme and love the idea of being zombies themselves. They got the rules very quickly and because it is a dice game, this is one of the few games our 2 year old can play with our guidance where the physical part of the game he does on his own. (just pick up 3 dice and roll). This helps when playing a game as a family that sometimes is too complicated for him. I would recommend it for a mature 5 year old and certainly for 6 and 7 year olds and older who like games.Other: Because it is a dice game, my brother who has Cerebral Palsy and struggles with fine motor control loved this game, because it was so easy for him to do physically. (He won a bunch of the games.)Overall: This game rocks overall, the only con I had was a slight one, and people who play it once or see it played usually get excited to continue to play it. This has become a family favorite, it is also a game we know we can break out at any time, with any crowd anywhere and have fun with. We had a ton of fun, yelling and cheering on Christmas day at my uncles house, it was a blast (shotgun that is ) 5Braaaaaains!Zombies rarely speak, but when they do, they typically only have one word in their vocabulary. Saying it like they do ("BraAAaAaaAaains") had us giggling throughout the games. Each player gets a turn with the dice (like Yahtzee) but what a player does with his turn is more exciting for everyone else to watch. The dice have brains, footprints, and gunshot bursts on them. 4 yellow dice have 2 of each symbol, 3 red and 6 green dice have two footprints each, with red having 3 gunshots and 1 brain, and green having the 3 brains and 1 gunshot.You blindly take 3 dice and roll them. You keep your brains to your left, your gunshots to your right, and your footprints in the middle. As long as you haven't been shot 3 times, you can choose between rolling again, or eating (scoring) your brains and passing your turn. If you roll again, you must roll your footprint dice again, plus however many new dice you need to blindly pull from the cup to total 3. If you roll that 3rd gunshot, your turn is over and you don't get to eat your braaaAAAaains! Play continues in a race to 13 brains; once someone gets to 13, remaining players complete the current round and the zombie who ate the most brains wins.Its the same 13 dice every turn, but turns go in a surprising variety of ways. Red footprints are going to have to be rolled again, which is scary, but even a red gunshot is a red die that isn't in the cup anymore - you could try to calculate the probabilities for your next throw, but in the end, you find a balance between your innate mathematical intuitions, the pressures of the current game score, and whatever sense of luck you possess. It's exciting, like gambling, and you are more engaged in your own risk/reward strategy (BraaaaAAaaaAAainnnns!) than with Yahtzee's more relaxed laundry list of things to accomplish.There were no youngsters in my play groups, but I think kids would get this game, and older players can certainly offer helpful advice, so I think there is an educational vector here - its a fun way to exercise the probabilistic thinking muscles. But this is also a game you can introduce people into quickly, play once, and then play again, or do something else. Folks can easily rotate in and out of play.For 2 players, 13 brains takes 5-15 minutes - additional players make the rounds longer, but the race to 13 seems to go faster too.The "cup" is a stiff cardboard tube covered with the product art, with plastic caps on both ends - both come off, which is unfortunate when a zealous shaking pops the bottom off and sends 13 dice in all directions... if you are only a little more intelligent than I, you can avoid that problem. Sturdy black dice with recessed images painted in bright, unmistakable green, red, and yellow, and a succinct rules sheet that folds and fits in the tube complete the product. Its smaller than a beer can so you could take and play anywhere. (Tip: bring/find a little tray to toss the dice into, pass it with the dice cup)This is a good dice game without the zombie motif. It's fast, engaging, and it can get exciting. If you embrace the whole zombie genre, it can get hilarious too. 2 to any number of players, I guess. Ages 9 to 99, I think.BraaAAaAaainnNNsssS!4Zombie FarkleLooking for a dice-rolling game along the lines of Farkle (but quicker than Farkle)? Zombie Dice is the answer!This is a super-fast, super-simple game, good for a 5-10 break from meatier fare. A player starts by taking three dice from the container and rolling them. Ultimately, you want brains (first zombie to roll 13 brains wins!). However, it's very possible to roll shotguns (three shots and you're out!) or footsteps (victims that got away--and give you another chance for brainnnnnns!). With each roll, you're taking a gamble: you can choose to re-roll the footsteps in an attempt to gain more brains. However, rolling also increases your risk of getting shot!Easy to learn, with a ridiculous/hilarious theme, Zombie Dice is a nice variation on dice-gambling games like Yahtzee and Farkle. Like those, it's also a game mostly of luck, not strategy, and it can finish in a couple minutes if someone's rolling hot! (Of course, you can always raise the brain count to prolong a game!) My only complaint is the cylindrical cardboard container; it'd be nice if it were made of plastic or something more solid that would stand up better over time. 4This game wants your BRAAAAIIINNNSSSSSI saw this reviewed in an email article I subscribe to. The recommendation made the game sound fun so I figured... for the price - why not give it a try? Have to say - AMAZING decision. It really does take 5 minutes (or less) to learn. And games are short to play as well. It's fun, it's silly, it's engaging to play with friends - it's everything you'd want in a quick, easy-to-learn game. Bought it randomly, because I wanted an easy game that I could play no matter how many people were over and that's exactly what it is. Everyone who has played it loves it. For a simple game it still has enough complexity to make it fun. I would recommend it to anyone. Especially for the price.Eat brains. Don't get shotgunned.In Zombie Dice, you are a zombie. You want braaains more brains than any of your zombie buddies. The 13 custom dice are your victims. Push your luck to eat their brains, but stop rolling before the shotgun blasts end your turn! Whoever collects 13 brains first wins. Each game takes 10 to 20 minutes and can be taught in a single round.Each turn, you take three dice from the box and roll them. A brain symbol is worth one point at the end of the round, while footsteps allow you to re roll this particular dice. Shotgun blasts on the other hand are rather bad, cause if you collect three shotgun blasts during your turn, it is over for you and you get no points. After rolling three dice, you may decide if you want to score your current brain collection or if you want to push your luck by grabbing new dice so you have three again and roll once more. 5Simple fun gameAbout as easy as it gets! Roll three dice of varying difficulties and try to collect brains without getting too many shotgun blasts. Green, yellow, and red dice- green has the most brains and red has the most shotguns. Roll three dice at a time, set aside brains and gunshots, and roll again if it s footsteps.Not much technique- just decide if it s worth rolling one more time to get more brains versus your turn ending with a third shotgun blast. Quick dumb fun if you have 5-10 minutes here and there. The game recommends playing to 21 but we shorten it up and have added a bonus point if you roll all three of any item. Also the loser gets one last turn of rebuttal rolls after the winner hits 21 to see if they can pull ahead. If they tie, roll all 13 dice in the cup and go off of who has the most brains.Decent plastic carrying cup with lid and the dice are nicely embossed with bright colors. 5Great game for kids! Seriously.What a great game! I have an 8 year old who's just starting to get into horror stuff. She wanted this game because of the zombie on the front, but once we started playing the game, she fell in love with it. It's an easy game with simple rules that can be played quickly. You rack up brains (points) and if you get shot 3 times, you get none for that round. All other dice can be re-rolled. First person to score the right amount of points wins. I believe the instructions say first person to either 13 or 14 points, but my daughter and I have easily adapted this to a 30-50 point game when we were really in the mood to play.I would recommend this to any parent with kids over the age of 5. It's a great counting tool. The zombie drawing on the front is as graphic as anything in the game gets. The dice have a picture of a brain, one of a bang, and one of footprints. You could probably cover the cup they come in (and let your child draw on the cup), and tell your kids the pictures of brains are cotton candy or something. My daughter and I called brains "Points," Shotgun blasts "BANGS," and the footprints "Runners." Let your child decide what the brain shape looks like if you feel that "brains" is too graphic of a term for them.My daughter and I have had HOURS of fun with this time killer. 5Not terrible, but definitely not a hit.As fun as Wil Wheaton made this game look, it was not a hit at our game night. I personally liked it more than everyone else, but honestly, there's no strategy behind it. I feel this would be fun for kids or just anyone who likes dice games.Gameplay gets really stale after a round or two. I don't plan on getting rid of it, though, as I feel it's a hit or a miss. I hope to suggest it every now and then in hopes to giving this game another shot, but best I don't bring it up for the rest of the year. 3From 1 Parent to Others......Who doesn't want to be a Zombie out for Brains?My Kids love the theme and LOVE THIS GAME. We even printed, laminated and cut out little brain tokens for scoring our games.It's a roll and press your luck dice game. There inst much strategy but it's Pure Fun!!!PARENTAL NOTE: It's a Bottom of the Purse Game.Meaning it travels great there or in glove box of the car or put it in the diaper bag for the older kids. IF you are stuck waiting anywhere -RESTAURANTS, the Doctor's office, Dentist, airport, for the bus/train, in a Long Line or even if you go camping-- you have a small quick fun game to distract yourself and the kiddo's while you wait.I love this game, and Martian Dice, for that reason. Martian Dice, for me ranks a little above Zombie Dice for me, as it offers a little more in choices and risk. Zombie Dice does play differently enough though that it is not the same game with a different theme.Educational?? only if one was to study the mathematical statistics of the game, and even more so if you compared it with Martian Dice. The game alone, well there isn't any educational value to the game, it's just fun to play.From 1 Parent to Another! Get the game, and keep it handy for outings.Great little Gift, for kids and grandkids.........Adults, TOO! 4
