It is a way of having fun and something that is teaching him something about his ...It makes children aware of the weather.. Grandson, age 8 and I keep track of the temperature and the rain gauge lets us keep track of how much rain we got.. We keep a chart of the weather everyday, Sunny, cloudy, stormy, how much rain, temperature ect.. Not all of them worked but it was ...My son, age 11 with autism, is fascinated with weather and science. These little experiments were fun. Not all of them worked but it was cheap enough to give it a shot! 5it worksI'm going to say it's just okay. It did get the job done but more for teaching the basic concepts of weather than great accurate daily readings. And, even with a plant in it, if often tips over during storms which then loses all the information gathered. 3Secure well in a garden and it might work better for youVery simple non-electronic introduction to weather concepts, which is what I was looking for. Unfortunately the bottle has blown over many times, so we have not had any seeds sprouting. Secure well in a garden and it might work better for you. The rain guage is too small to really collect any water. The wind feature and thermometer work well. 4Looks cooler than it is.My son waited in excitement for a whole week to crack open this thing and it was NOT worth the wait. The contents inside was worth about 50 cents and you need to already have household items, because everyone keeps potting soil handy right? Also, if you dont have a desk lamp, don't bother. So disappointed. 1Five StarsPurchased this a year and a half ago, my 11 year old son has used it many times. 5Check the supply from home lost before purchaseNOTE: this kit requires you to use alcoholic drink (vodka etc), to have a heat emitting desk light (LED light bulbs don t work) and a computer or TV that emits heat and is big enough to hold something on top of it. It seems like a good kit, but we weren t able to do a number of things because we didn t have that at home supplies/situations required. 2Almost nothing actually worked.This was so disappointing. Great idea, terrible execution. First of all, though prominently displayed in the packaging, the terrarium is an afterthought. It is barely mentioned in the instructions, there are no seeds, nothing. The only part of the weather station that worked properly was the compass, even after extensive troubleshooting. 1It's false advertising! The "anemometer" doesn't measure squat.I bought this, received it, and upon receipt, I read the instructions, which plainly state the anemometer does not measure exact wind speed. The fact is it doesn't measure wind speed at all. it's just a fancy pin wheel. An anemometer actually measures something, but this doesn't.It's totally false advertising. The bullet reads "The kit includes a functional wind vane, an anemometer, a thermometer and a rain gauge for measuring local weather conditions." One can argue it literally states a functional anemometer or one can argue it implies a functional anemometer. Either way, it should measure wind speed, assuming it's a "functional" anemometer. But it doesn't. You do not learn this until you've bought and received the product. 1Not the best qualityThis is an okay weather station for kids. It is plastic and small and for some reason they thought the terrarium idea was a good one. It was good to demonstrate the parts of weather that we measure and to sort of see it in action. If you don't put something in your bottle then it won't stay standing long, and even with a terrarium if there is a strong wind it won't stay upright. The compass is pretty cheap, but the rest of it will work. 3
