    Breaks and splinters too easilyGreat concept and it kept my three-year-old grandson entertained on a long plane flight. He loved "driving" the vehicles on to the string and it was very good eye-hand coordination practice. Unfortunately, the police car split in two with many splinters the fourth time we played with it. My grandson is very careful with his toys and I was playing with him each time he used these beads, so I know it was not anything he did that caused the problem. He was heartbroken when his favorite vehicle broke. I was horrified because the splintery remains looked dangerous. Grandpa glued the police car back together, but Grandma made all the beads disappear out of concern that the other vehicles might also splinter apart. Unfortunately, I bought this gift well in advance of actually giving it, so it was too late to return it. 1Great activity toy, bad paintI am torn about this one! This is one great toy and my kid (15 month old ) took an instant liking to it.It is a good activity toy, helps with hand -eye coordination. As the next step, we can teach them to identify the cars, truck, school bus etc.Good size for tiny hands.Now what's the down side of this one? Well, not a handful of weeks have gone by and the paint's disappearing pretty fast. Thankfully, my kid isn't putting these in his mouth but if he were, I would be very worried.Otherwise, the construction itself is not too bad/no sharp edges and all. Just wish they did a better job with the paint. 4Great educational toy! No smell what-so-ever.I got this for my almost 3 year old son who is on the autism spectrum, currently diagnosed with PDD-NOS.He is obsessed with trucks, and this little toy makes him so happy! He has never used a string through beads or anything before, and i showed him once how its done with this, and he instantly was a professional, and he makes himself so proud by doing it and sliding it down into the other trucks. The little "pen" that helps him guide it to the other end of the trucks is perfect.The quality of the trucks are great also!! reminds me of Melissa & Doug style. Very durable.Just be careful with the little box it comes in... its like a wooden tray. My son got his thumb stuck in it twice, so i tossed it away. 5great quality fun quiet toy!I got this toy for my 21 month old and he loves it! He played with it for 20 minutes straight on a plane ride. The cars are very durable and made of wood. It even passed the chew test that my toddler gave it-no paint even came off. My son loved stringing the cars, I helped him get started and showed him how to do it since it was a new skill and after a few minutes he was doing it on his own. I have seen other stringing sets but this one is the best because it has a stopper on the end (very cute a little stoplight). The other great thing about this set is that they are little cars so even when my son isn't stringing them he still likes to play with the little cars. He has even started identifying them by name of the different cars (car, firetruck etc.) I would buy this again and plan to buy it for gifts in the future.Alex Toys Wooden Stringing Sets - String and Beep 5great toy for twosMy son will be 3 in a couple of weeks. This product was an Easter basket gift...so he's had it a little over a month. He will begin preschool in the fall, and I know stringing is fine motor skill that he will practice on in preschool. I chose this product because the "beads" are larger and fun car shapes. He has lots of toys, and I feared I would have to "make" him play with this...WRONG! After one demonstration, he could string and remove the cars himself. He really enjoys playing with this toy. It's a great product. The cars are brightly painted in fun colors. Some are recognizable (police car, fire truck, ambulance, etc.) vehicles, and some are generic cars and trucks. The string seems sturdy and resistant to snags, and the stick on the end makes stringing less frustrating. Age suggestion says three, but I definitely think a much younger child could string successfully. I wish I had gotten it sooner. Great introduction to stringing; highly recommend. 5Great toy for an automobile loving toddlerMy 19 month old loves these. I was reluctant to buy because of reviews that said were low quality but that has not been my experience. He likes to play with them and has learned how to string them as intended. Great toy for an automobile loving toddler! 5Perfect Toy for Curious and Industrious ToddlersAbsolutely love this lacing toy and so does my 21 month old granddaughter. I was looking for something that would teach her a new skill and really grab her interest and this is perfect. She's fascinated by it. It's not difficult to use at all because it laces via a nice sturdy wooden handle/needle and the holes in the wooden vehicles are big enough that the lacing goes very smoothly. There's a good healthy challenge element to it, too. She hasn't completely mastered it yet- it keeps her guessing and cocking her head to one side as she figures it out. She'll be playing with it for a while, I think. I chose this particular lacing toy (I think the company has several types with different objects to lace) because my granddaughter loves cars & trucks & buses, etc. There is a lovely variety of vehicles on this including a taxi cab, school bus, ambulance, ice cream truck, etc. She really loves it and when she's not lacing it, she plays with the little vehicles on the floor. Really great toy that teaches an important skill in an imaginative, fun fashion. And I love that it's challenging. 5Great wooden productGreat wooden product, the size is perfect for little hands, and needle is easy to use, and they are still like new....have had them for about 4 months. This is a great learning toy and I would recommend them to anyone with a 10+ child. My grandson is 16 months and still plays with them.Update...I just answered a question presented to me via email, and decided to read back thru the reviews and questions. One of the biggest concerns seemed to be if the toy material was toxic. This is what I found on the company website..Non-toxic/BPAAll ALEX products are designed and intended for use by children. We subject all of our products to rigorous safety testing and evaluation using ASTM standards. Your assurance that they are safe for use, by the age group specified on the package, is the printed statement that reads either Conforms to D4236 , or Conforms to ASTM F963 . This means that a comprehensive Toxic Risk Assessment (TRA) of the product ingredients has been performed by a certified toxicologist and confirmed to be non-toxic to the user. Our products carried in Europe are tested to the European Union Toy Safety Standard EN71 and carry the CE mark. We do NOT use BPA in our manufacturing processes. Our Art Materials including all crayons are tested to conform to LHAMA D4236 which identifies a product as being NON-TOXIC.In addition to that info...I still want to comment that this toy, and the farm animal version are an excellent learn and play toy. With supervision they can start to learn how to string the beads when they are sitting and supporting themselves while playing. I chose not to wait to age 3, and now at 19 months, my grandson can string all the beads without hesitation. Like other reviewers, he also groups by colors and types. We also use them when we stack blocks...to add cars on our roads and animals outside our towers. He had put the toys in his mouth from time to time, but for his age, that is normal. We just offer other ideas of how he can play with them and he stops.Great toy, great price. Lots of fun! 5Excellent string beadsI worked in early intervention for young students with autism and other developmental delays. These string beads are amazing! The large wooden threading peg helped them become more independent and lessened frustration verses other string beads using shoe laces. The colorful cars keep their interest, and provided conversation to discuss their favorite one. If you work with or have young kiddos or kiddos needing fine motor practice I highly recommend these for helping with fine motor skills while having fun! 5Good fine motor skills toyBought these for my 18mo. Old daughter she likes them. Its been 4 months and some of the paint is scratched and i was a little disappointed at how rough the inside of some of the holes are they catch a little on the string but they work and she likes them they are easy for her to string. 4
