Customer Reviews

Adjust your expectationsIf you want to enjoy this little gem from your childhood, know what you re in for. It s great fun and perfect for a week in our cabin. It s meant for traveling in that it s a game in miniature, lightweight, easy to pack. It s NOT meant for play DURING travel. Pros: so cute!! Easy to open setup and get going. Not too many parts to keep track Of. Lots of extra pegs in case you lose some down the cushions. Cons: even my tiny fingers can t keep hold of these slipper nimble teensy widdle wee pegs. My greatest muscle memory is pushing the peg into its hole, and these don t go all the way in. (Yes, that s what she said). Nonetheless it s a blast. I setup and taught my wife how to play in less than 5. Adjust your expectations.(I do NOT recommend this game for small children. Teeny pieces to swallow and lose.) 4Small pieces + small hands = difficult to playLOOOOVE Battleship! So do my 7 and 5 year old so I thought this would be a great game for our 14 hour car ride. The problem was that the pieces are super small and they are hard for little fingers to manipulate. Also, the pegs don't fit very well into the holes, so there was a lot of frustration over pegs falling out and getting stuck in odd places. May be better for older kids. 3FAR TOO SMALL!!!The game is a classic, got to love it. The size being "grab and go" is misleading, as this sucker is SO small that it's almost impossible for people to play. The pegs are SUPER tiny and hard to get to stay in the holes. Try reading the letters and numbers. Magnifying glass needed, even by my 9 year old granddaughter, so I know it's not just my old eyeballs. Most games are given up on because the pegs keep dropping out. Sad. 2Just buy the full size set. Any advantage in portability is offset in poor design / poor playability.Unless you are looking for something ultra small to put in a backpack or purse, I would go with the full size game. This tiny variant just didn't measure up. The plastic is thin and cheap, especially the ships. The pegs are way too little and get dropped and lost with the ease of candy sprinkles. Probably fine for an adult that likes Battleship, but not a good choice for the kids. As another reviewer mentioned, it can't be closed with pegs in the slots, and everything is so tiny that my kids really don't like playing with it. The pieces are small enough to go scattering when you open it, and are hard to use in the car. Given the price, I can't go so low as to rate it a 1-Star, but I would definitely recommend just buying the normal size set. This "Grab and Go" version looks like something you would get out of a high end Happy Meal. 2Just Like the Full SizeI recently put together a travel game pack. Not just for day trips but even to bring on vacation. Along with a deck of cards, Phase 10 and Yahtzee, I saw Battleship and knew I had to add it since it was one of my favorites as a kid.The travel size Battleship is just like the full size. It has the same number of ships, the same type of pegs and even the foldable "game board" is the same, just smaller.I worried that as an adult, it would be too small to play but it isn't.The best thing is that you can put this is just about any daypack so you could take it on a car trip or even a trip to the doctors. 5Tiny Pieces, Big FunThis version of the game did an amazing job of keeping things small enough to travel around with. We play this while waiting for our food at a restaurant, laying on the couch together, or flying across country. You do need to be careful of bumping your board or else tiny pegs will go flying. It would've been nice to have a way to carry both little boards, but we just use a rubber band. If you love the regular version, definitely go for this one. 5WonderfulThe tow boards slide together for travel! And you can close them with the pegs in the boards so you can pic up where you left off!! 5DO NOT BUYThe pieces in this game were way to small to even small fingers to take out pieces without knocking others over. I don't recommend this. My kids played with this with the grandparents over xmas and it was super frustrating for all involved. 1Great for passing times at restaurantsThere is a bit of a learning curve with the travel edition as everything is obviously smaller, but it is great for playing Battleship when you aren't home. The biggest thing we try to avoid is to not bump the table when playing, as some of the pieces may fall out of the grid. It isn't fun trying to remember where they belong. I wouldn't recommend it for the car because of the movement factor, but it serves as great entertainment for our family while out at a restaurant. I like that the two game boards clip together for storage. 4Not a good travel game for car or planeFun toy of my youth. Got this to play on an airplane trip with my daughter. The game is the same, but the pegs and ships are so small that it is hard to put into place. Also, they are so slippery that using this travel set isn't a reality; pieces will fall everywhere. The game boards are slippery, pegs are hard to place, and ships don't go into place easily. The game does store nicely though, the 2 game boards slides and locks nicely together for easy transport; though like I said, this is not a game for planes, trains, or automobiles! The standard version would be WAY better than this for travel. 3
