    I didn't want to spend the money on a nice set for her ageIt's a cheaply made set. I got it for my 5yo because she loves games and wanted to learn checkers/backgammon. I didn't want to spend the money on a nice set for her age, so this actually served the purpose. Now that she's older, I've gotten her a better set that will last longer. 2Barely thicker than cardstock...The actual game board is barely thicker than thick paper. Im not one to complain and write negative reviews. I purchased thinking it would be like the regular thick cardboard game board of my childhood. But they've gone cheap. This board is really flimsy and cheap and isn't even a great beginner set for children, in my opinion, because it won't last long. Not worth the price. 2For the money, a dealThis version is exactly what I was looking for. Something inexpensive to help the kids learn how to play. The pieces are thin plastic, so they are light; and the board is a little bit thinner than I expected, but works just fine. Three games for under $10, so again, basically what I figured it would be. 5yup.Somehow I thought there'd be a third set of pieces for the backgammon board. It indicates the checkers pieces are for that, too. I suppose it does nicely about resourcefulness. Smaller and separate pieces would have suited me personally though since we have a different, little board collecting dust. Well, you win some...The chess pieces aren't too bad. A bit on the light plasticy side, functional though and are sized pretty well. They'll probably fall over if you're trying to play in a moving vehicle. Yet for a table game that you simply want to play or teach chess with and aren't worried about "quality," this is for you. Also comes with checkers that do stack (woohoo!) and a pair of dice, plus a list of other games you could try with these pieces. For roughly ten dollars on technically three games to start, I'd say this is a nice deal.The board is durable so it is flimsy, but it's not completely flat either. Cosmetically, a whole corner had a line of white that looked like the paint was scraped off. I'll upload a picture when I get around to it.To recap, a perfectly fuctional chess, checkers and backgammon set. I like the color scheme. On the plus side of being cheap, you could play with this until your pocket is ready for a more 'solid' set.Can't complain. Nothing missing or broken on arrival.[edit 7/14/15 -- Cat keeps knocking down the game pieces when we leave it on the table. So we know now he jumps up there regularly during the night. Hey, kitty, share your strategy with one of us. 4Check Your Pieces!This was a good buy for family game nights. The board is large and the game pieces are a good quality however... when setting the chess board I noticed in one set there wasn t a Queen but I had 3 Bishops . We have been creative in making the piece the Queen but it s distracting when trying to teach chess to new players. 4Good set for what you're paying.Its pretty lightweight, but for the price its great and suits its purpose for my son who has a bit of interest in chess.I can play it with him and if he doesn't like it anymore, I'm not going to be bummed that I'm out less than 10 bucks.yes the board is not super thick, but for the price i don't expect it to be super high end quality. 4Great cheap set!You get what you pay for! This is a great first set for my 6 & 8 yr old sons. They are loving chess and checkers. Backgammon not so much, but who honestly likes that game? The set is definitely very cheap. It's essentially very thick card stock doubled over. But it's holding up well and i do not regret this purchase at all! We'll get a few years out of it for sure. The boys love chess enough that the next set will be nicer, but this is a great first set without knowing if they'd like chess. 5Deeply Disappointed with how they Bundled thisAs a child pressman checker/chess/backgammon boards were all over. They were good little starter sets and were made just as well as other kids games. Alas this is no longer the case. Here are my problems with it:- The box it comes in is to thin and it has those cardboard sharp edges.- The game board is way thinner than the old ones and seems like slightly thicker than poster board (like another reviewer said). I looks like they printed a sheet with the squares on it and then glued it to the cardboard. Cheap, cheap.- The checkers are cheaper plastic and not as substantial. They are easily knocked around.- The Chess pieces were ok and again not substantial so easily knocked over. My set was incomplete. I was missing a black knight and had an extra bishop.- The board is not slippery so the pieces do not slide nicely.- The board and pieces are made in China. Not that China makes all bad things, but it appears they bid this out to the Cheapest bidder and it shows.I normal do not write a lot of reviews, but if you are like me and remember the original pressman boards this will disappoint.Hope this helps 1Poor Quality - Not RecommendedI ordered two sets for my vacation rental homes. I liked the fact that it came with three game options: checkers, chess and backgammon, however the quality is very poor and it wouldn't have lasted long. The box is made of very flimsy corrugated cardboard. The game board is made of thin cardstock and it doesn't lie flat. It's more of a game "card" than a game "board." I would have paid a few dollars more for a thicker and more durable game board and box. I returned both sets. I wouldn't have kept this set for my family, much less a vacation rental. Not recommended. 1You get what you pay for.I bought this item with plans to teach my children how to play checkers, chess, and backgammon. Because the price was so low, I will not be as upset when they inevitably lose pieces. The pieces are cheap plastic, but will easily serve their purpose. The board however leaves something to be desired. It is so thin, that I expect it to be torn after a very short period of time. The board appears to be thinner than standard poster board. Instruction page that comes with the game is fairly acceptable except for the backgammon instructions which are pretty vague. With all of this said, I still feel it will still work for teaching my children how to play all three games, and we will purchase another more durable and expensive set as the get older and more responsible. 2
