They are the ones everyone plays with, while the more expensive aluminum ones just sit in the drawer. For kids that aren't in a serious competitor mode, I'd buy these. 5My 5 year old really wanted a yo-yo for Christmas ...My 5 year old really wanted a yo-yo for Christmas and I knew I had to get a Duncan. They re much easier to use then other brands especially if you ve never used a yo-yo before. She loves it. 4Pretty disappointed in this productPretty disappointed in this product. Bought two of them and both came defective. Duncan used to be THE Yo-Yo. Apparently that is no longer the case. I recommend going with something else. 1Just like I had in high school - perfect!It was exciting to play with this yoyo after so many years since last playing in high school over 20 years ago. I was never an expert with a yoyo, but could do a few tricks. Back then if you had a yoyo it had to be a Duncan! When my kids both received a couple of cheap-o yoyo' for Christmas I was really disappointed that the string was attached to the axle - not allowing the yoyo to "sleep" like I remembered being able to do with my Duncan's in the past. I decided to order an Imperial and a Butterfly for the kiddos - figuring I could relive a bit of my past and show my kids what I knew about how a proper yoyo works. We were not disappointed when we got our Duncans!! There are a few reviews here complaining about these yoyo's not returning and spinning out. This is not a design flaw or a quality flaw. Being able to sleep a yoyo enables tricks like 'walk the dog', 'around the world', and 'rock the baby'. These tricks came back to me quickly with the new yoyo's we received. Both yoyo's were exactly the same as they were over 20 years ago. I was impressed with this fact. There may be something to say about a manufacturer making their products better over time but in this case - why fix it if it ain't broke'. 5Still a classicSome childhood favorites just don't live up to our memories of them, but thankfully, the Duncan yo-yo isn't one of them. We bought two yo-yos, one for each of our two kids (ages 11 and 8), but all of us in the family have been having a great time playing and learning new tricks. Cheap yo-yos are just frustrating. They don't snap back crisply, and they don't lend themselves to tricks. The classic Duncan size and shape is just right for smaller hands, and even newbies can successfully grasp the basics quickly. Within a day, our daughters were able to do the basic yo-yo throw and were well on their ways to getting their yo-yos to sleep. Worth every penny. 5Poor qualityI had many Duncan YO Yos as a child. My other children have had them. This one, the string was too loose immediately so it wasn t useable. My older son tightened it for my youngest son. It lasted about a week. The lettering actually rubbed off in that one week. I ve never seen a genuine Duncan with this value. Terrible. Wasn t worth returning to replace $3. My son was disappointed. I just bought one someplace else. No biggie. Just an honest review 1Bad quality yo-yos.1. you cannot choose the color and when I ordered 2, I got 2 of the same color which was saddening.2. You can actually restring them, but the string quality it so low that it gets weird bumps and knots when doing a basic yo-yo restring.3. The yo-yo also does not hold a slip-knot well at all.4. Even a basic yo-yo trick like a Gravity Pull does not work well on this yo-yo.5. Does have a nice Fleur-de-Lis on one side, which is nice.Overall: Very low quality y-yo that I cannot recommend to anyone at all. 1Ignore the negative reviews by people who don't know how to use this!This is a great yo-yo! So many people are giving it negative reviews because they don't know how to use it. You can't just throw it down and expect it to come up! The string winds around the axle just fine if you do it properly! This is a quality piece but it DOES require the user to understand HOW to use it. Buy extra strings, strings fray and break after heavy use. Go to youtube and watch how to yo-yo reviews. They do not just go up and down by themselves. 5Broke after 5 minutesI bought these for my annual Halloween party for my grands. They they didn t work after 5 minutes! I used to buy these for my sons, they loved them! They were great quality and they did everything they to and with these Yo yos, and they never broke! These, not so much!Sad for my youngest grandson because this is all he wanted, and his broke. 1mediocre qualityMy son was so excited to spend his $6 to have his own yo-yo shipped right to our front door. Unfortunately, it didn t quite work right from the beginning. First, the discs were bent so that the gap was not even all the way around. Second, I understand that there are essentially two types of yo-yos - this one wasn t sure what it wanted to be. Maybe responsive, maybe unresponsive, maybe a window-breaking projectile when angrily flung across the room. The gold lettering also quickly rubbed off. Hmmm. After actually reading reviews it turns out I wasn t crazy! I tried to return it using the automated process and was informed that this item is not eligible for return. Thankfully, the chat representative handled the situation professionally and my son and I reinvested the refund in a proper yo-yo. Please, please don t buy this yo-yo. 1
