Customer Reviews

Perfect for little stargazersI teach astronomy, and I have a pretty sophisticated Bushnell telescope I use myself. My 7-year-old gets a little frustrated with it because it's pretty sensitive. She was so excited to get her own telescope to check out the night sky with mom!! It's very easy for her to manipulate, and she is excited every time we find new things in the sky!! The Activity Journal is very engaging, simply written, and has a lot of interesting facts & pictures to stimulate kids to explore more. I think every child should own one of these!!To the negative reviewer...this is CLEARLY a telescope made for children and young adults. Nowhere does it claim to be a professional telescope. If you are looking for a high end telescope, you are certainly going to pay more than this list price!! 5My daughter loves her moonscopeI have always loved astronomy and my daughter also loves the night sky especially the moon and she loves her moonscope. if you are looking for a professional telescope this one is not it as it is geared to elementary school aged children. It is a little bit hard to focus on what you want at the beginning but after using it awhile you get used to it and it is amazing to be able to see the moon so up close. My daughter likes to play with this every night and I'm glad that it is a toy than can teach her something. I am pleased with this and would recommend to anyone looking to buy this for a school aged child. 5Fun Beginner's Telescope! My two youngest daughters (6 and 9) were thrilled to experiment with the Moonscope. My nine year-old was a little disappointed when we first tried to look through it at night but, just like the instructions suggest, familiarizing yourself with the Moonscope during the day really helps with learning what the knobs do and how small movements change the view far away.Looking forward to our first full moon with the Moonscope! 5Great first telescope for beginnersMy daughter has been wanting a telescope for a while now. When I got this one, she was so excited. She loves the colors of it and the activity journal. There's a light underneath it that you can angle certain ways so that you can see to write in the journal when you're in the dark. When we first got it we set it up and we all went outside to look at the moon. It took a few minutes for us to find it in the sky but once we did, the image was very clear. You can see the craters on the moon and everything. The kids are always waiting for the moon to come out so that we can go outside and use the telescope. As others have said, it's not a professional telescope or anything...it is meant for kids. That being said, it's good quality and it'll last a while even with daily use. 5Such a great first scope, HIGHLY recommended !This Moonscope is pretty cool ! At first it was really difficult to get the hang of it, but after I finally got the moon in the scope and was able to get the clear shot it was AMAZING ! My daughter likes it so much she wants to take it out every night ! It is so neat to be able to see the moon so clearly and look at all the craters and bumps and just to know that it is an amazing creation that we get to enjoy, AHHH! So, like I said, it was REALLY hard to get it to focus and get the moon in the scope at first, but after much trial and error we did it, at first I was ready to give up and give a bad review, but once I got the moon centered and focused, OH MY GOODNESS ! This is definitely not a super duper see everything scope, but it is well worth the price to allow your child to see the night sky and experience the moon in all of its phases in focus and not just a blurry light in the sky. It definitely helps to take it outside at least a half an hour before viewing in order to get it acclimated to the outside air temperature like the instructions indicate. We live in a rural area and thought we could get a great view of the stars as well, but that has proven to be more difficult, although we will not stop trying ! We also took it out in the daytime to check out the trees and some nature sites up close and to get some practice in focusing ! Overall, I would definitely purchase this item again and am so glad to have had the opportunity in the first place. Now, we are just waiting on the full moon so we can see it in all of its splendor ! That said, I recommend this item to anyone looking to give their elementary aged child a closer look at the moon, you WILL NOT be disappointed ! 5Good Beginner ScopeNancy B's Moonscope has been good as a beginner scope for my young son. He's recently shown a strong interest in astronomy so I've tried to introduce him to various scientific tools to aid his exploration. The previous reviews left me hesitant about the capabilities of the Moonscope. After watching the manufacturer's video on how to set up the scope and suggestions for operation, we were able to view to the moon after some trial and error. I was also really impressed by the activity journal. The key things that could be improved are a taller tripod and storage for the lenses. 4Great for beginnersI always read reviews before purchasing anything and look at the rating. Typically, I won't buy anything under 4 stars. I saw one review that convinced me to purchase this item for my daughter's bday. I am so happy I did. For a $32 telescope, this is a great buy. If your expecting a professional telescope, this is not it. But if your look for a great beginner telescope, this one fits the bill. It has a little light on the bottoms that you can turn on/off (will need batteries that are not included). It comes with a moon filter and you do need to use it if looking at the moon. My husband set it up and we all looked at the moon with this scope. He first looked at the moon without the moonscope and he said it blinded him lol. It was very clear and could see the color variation in the scope. I would recommend having an adult that does know a little bit about setting the scope up for children especially younger children. Of course, I think most could learn how to set it up and stargazing/moongazing. And the tripod is not very tall so you will probably want to set it on a table or something to give you some height. I browsed through the journal and it has tips, activities, and information. 5Very disappointed! This just doesn't work. It will not focus sharp enough for any use at all. Unless you want to look in your neighbors yard. this is trash. Bought it for Christmas for my 7 year old granddaughter. Because of bad weather we could not try it until recently. Can't return because we are outside our return window. The moon looks like a fuzzy tennis ball at best. And ,yes, we read the instructions and know how to focus this. Where did all these great reviews come from? 1My 8 year old loves it....I wasn't totally soldI loved the looks of this and wanted to give it a fair chance despite negative reviews. When it arrived, we began putting it together and a piece snapped off that would attach the tube and tripod. I was ready to pack it in, but my daughter was so excited to use it and said all it needs is a little tape! So we did jerry rig it with duct tape and were able to put everything else together and it seems functional. I am not sure I can see anything out of it, but she says yes and has had a lot of fun playing with it. She loves the journal that is included with it, and has been working hard in it every day. With that said, I was disappointed at the quality and do feel like it's a little flimsy. This is also, as other reviewers have said, definitely a kids telescope so please don't expect perfection. On the other hand, my daughter has loved it and has enjoyed many independent hours playing with it. It really has a lot of cool STEM properties. 3Impressed!I was actually pretty impressed with this telescope! It s very easy to use. I found the moon within 2 minutes, with the20mm lens, and the image was perfectly clear and details were pretty sharp. It s definitely a good telescope for kids, it doesn t have many moving or breakable parts. There is a user manual that is very informative with great tips on using a telescope. I highly recommend for a little budding astronomer! 5
