These worked great for science fairThese worked great for science fair! Kid won 4th place. We grew them in a clean hermit crab tank with the heater on and bought a small thermometer to maintain the temperature. They sprouted all kinds of cool stuff in a day or two. Apparently my kitchen sponge is teeming with life. Kids had so much fun collecting bacteria and viewing it under the microscope. It did smell pretty bad after a week or so. I'd order these again just for fun. One did arrive broken however. 5Contaminated also!Bought these in December. My 12 year old got them for Christmas and was really excited. When we opened the box, we noticed through the sealed bag that one was already growing mold. We tossed it into the trash and used a clean one for a project. None of the other dishes were removed from the bag or even touched. The one for the project grew very well but when we went to get out more from the bag a week later (today) they were all growing mold or something. We have to throw the rest away. He was so sad because he had been so excited to use them. Not sure if we can get a refund.You can see the successful one where we grew from his teeth and inside of nose. It's held up to light.The one with black tape is the first contaminated one we tossed.The other pics are of the rest that molded in the bag. 1Ready to use agar plates.I purchased these for my two boys for us to use over the summer. I bought them primarily for them to understand the importance of washing their hands. I had them swab their hands and streak the plates with the provided swabs. Then I had them wash their hands properly and did they same.I purchased this primarily for the fact that they are ready to be used out of the box. My kids enjoyed doing this experiment and after seeing the results I am happy to say that they actually take the time to wash their hands not for as long as I would like but it s a start.Great product and it was packaged well. Loved the fact that they were ready to be used the moment you get them. Kids had lots of fun can see myself buying again for future experiments. 5Great for the science fair!I'm super impressed with this kit! My son decided to do a science fair project on germs. This was everything we needed to do our research. The petri dishes were all in great condition. We used the swabs to test multiple locations around his school. We let them grow for 3 days at room temperature and grew some disgusting things! Everything went perfectly and I didn't have to buy anything else to do the science project. I only wish we could get the bacteria identified! I would definitely recommend this kit. 5I had some fantastic results. I would order these againI was required to do a science experiment for a college course. Having had previous experience with petri dishes and knowing how to plate samples (Medical Lab Tech cert and working for a medical lab) I decided to test the effectiveness of essential oils as a cleaning agent. I used the dishes to plate 9 contaminated samples, then placed a filter paper soaked in a different essential oil in each one. After 48 hours, I had some fantastic results. I would order these again. 5great productI originally ordered EZ Bio Research Bacteria Science Kit for my son s science project. It came with everything we needed. It also came with complete instruction on how to use and care for the materials before and after use. The qualities of the items were great. We followed storage instructions and the product did yield expected results. I had about 4 leftover and I used those in my classroom. Even after 34 days the products were use in science experiment. The results we surprising as germs grow, even after the recommended expiration date. The packaging was detailed and done to my expectation; everything was placed securely in the package. Shipping was fast and swift. I had no issues with any of the items in the parcel. This item is great for at home or in-school projects. 5Nice product, but was mostly successful due to Amazon reviewer's suggestionsI am so glad I read previous reviews that said to put the trays in an incubator after swabbing. We made one in an old 5 gallon aquarium lined with foil, covered with foil, with an incandescent light bulb stuck through the foil to provide some heat. That contributed significantly to the success of my daughter's science experiment, which was who has the most bacteria in their saliva-dogs, hamsters, cats, or people? (turns out it was the hamsters...at least for us)We also followed previous reviewers suggestions to store the plates, once swabbed, upside down so that the condensation would not drip on the medium.Thank you to all the great Amazon reviewers for the helpful tips!It is important to store them in the fridge prior to using the trays. 4Great and Professional Agar PlatesI have a PH.D. in biochemistry and have made and used my own agar plates for years in a research lab. Now I am a "retired" stay-at-home" mom and use these plates to do science experiments with my kids at home. They are great! I haven't had any problems with them at all. They work just like they should. You don't really need to refrigerate them upon arrival if you are going to be using them within a week or so. I prefer not to refrigerate mine because IF they are contaminated, I want to KNOW IT and SEE the contamination before I use the plate. It is important to set up a warm "incubator" to keep them and they will grow over night. I bought a heat lamp (for reptiles sold at a pet store) and clipped it on the the side of a plastic box. I put a thermometer in there to make sure the temp stays between 90-98 degrees F. I covered it loosely with aluminum foil. That is all you really need to do. You should not let them grow more than 24 hours. Letting them grow for weeks as some people did will not generate accurate results. The plates will grow mold and dry out. 5Great set for a science fair projectThe agar plates worked as advertised. The customer service will answer promptly any questions you have. I emailed them twice. They also send you a link to access an e-booklet where you can read more about the whole process.The booklet also has quite a few suggestions for science experiments involving agar plates, and describe them.We had bacteria colonies growing on the plates in 24-48 hours. A few things to remember:1. Bacteria like a dark, humid and warm environmemt. If you wipe a dry material/place make sure you wet the sterile cotton swab before wiping. I used water from a water bottle.2. After wiping place the agar plates upside down (agar gel up) in a box. There will be water droplets forming inside the plate, and you don't want the water to ruin the agar gel.3.To create a dark and warm environment I used a metal box with lid ( not transparent) that fit all the agar plates I wanted to use in it. I bought a desk lamp and turned it on for 72 hours on top of the box, 3 inches far from the box. I did not use a thermometer.4. The wiping process is easy, you just slightly press on the agar and trace some zig-zag lines all over the plate. If you innoculate different bacteria from different places on the agar plate you use this zig zag technique.5. Don't forget to use a sharpie and write down the name of the place/object you are testing on the side of the agar plate. You will have to take pictures at some point so make sure the name is visible on the side.Our experiment was a success!:) 5Great AgarI was really happy with my purchase of petri dishes by EZ BioResearch Bacteria Science Kit. I Used them for my thesis for my master program and they did a really great job at growing bacteria as you can see in the pictures provided. They can with pipettes, cotton swobs, test tube, sanitizers and 10 dishes with agar already in them. I did have one that was contaminated already in the box but it was perfectly fine being that I did not need all the dishes. The instructions were easy to follow and the media grew bacteria very well. 5
