Customer Reviews

What a Fun Gift Idea! What a fantastic gift this was. Ever since seeing the SpongeBob slide whistle episode we were obsessed with this. Of all the various high tech gifts handed out at Xmas time, this probably came out as the favorite. This is a solid little whistle that shows no signs of degradation in quality in spite of its constant use over 2 weeks. So far so good. You can't help but smile/laugh when someone plays a slide whistle. A great little gift for kids of any age! 5Save your money. My 9 year old had been begging for a slide whistle, and despite some negative reviews, I decided to give this one a shot (based mostly on price).Oh, the disappointment when he tried this out! It was almost completely air sound, barely any whistle at all. I didn t expect perfection from a plastic whistle, especially at this price, but this simply didn t work at all.I ended up returning it and buying the American Plating version. Yes, it s about 4 times as much, but now he s got a solid metal slide whistle that sounds great and will hold up well. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for . 1Great Therapy Toy For Multiple SkillsI'm going to preface this by saying that my reasons for rating this well have nothing to do with durability. I think this is a toy that if left unattended with a very boisterous child could be easily broken any number of ways, either them stepping on it, or using it as a sword or a drumstick. Especially if we're talking about your typical little boy, anything can become a sword or a lightsaber super fast. No, my rating is based on the fact that I'm keeping this up high and closely supervising it. I'm using it to target multiple therapy goals for our son, who has a host of things going on with him that come with global developmental delays and some sensory issues. I think if treated gently, this thing will be durable enough for what we need, and because he's a chewer who likes to run with things he's chewing on sometimes, I consider it a safety risk to leave this alone with him unsupervised. So I'm targeting multiple things with this: acceptance of novel toys, especially sound ones, working on improving his lip strength with the goal of helping him long term be able to produce certain sounds that require pursing and blowing out on the lips (like p and b), working on fine motor, working on imitation, working on following instructions, and working at increasing functional oral use to cut down on chewing. One of the things I love about this is that the slide allows it to produce a lower tone. Because he's sensitive to sound, right now we're starting with the slide out all the way when we blow in it, because the all the way in tone is too high for him to tolerate well at this time and use the toy functionally, and just this week we're finally having success with him blowing in it to produce a sound. I like the way the slide is made, because I think it will allow him to manipulate it when we get to the point where we're working on the fine motor part of this task. And once he's working that and tolerating the higher tones better, we'll up the anti to imitation and holding out the notes longer.I honestly think this is a cool therapy toy. If you are using it for a special needs kiddo with lip strength, imitation, and motor planning struggles you may need to use your fingers in the beginning to help purse their lips to give them the idea of what they should be doing, but I'd fade out the use of that as soon as possible. For our little guy I'm still having to remind him to blow into it to make the sound, but I'm going to be fading that one as soon as I can as well. Right now, I'm super excited because he's starting to be able to produce a whistle tone with this! I also think this toy, if gently cared for, is going to be durable enough. But if you know your kiddos are more "Wrestle Mania" then "Mozart", maybe supervise this one or get them an actual recorder, because those are made of much thicker plastic... 5carrying it with me in the hopes i will get ...carrying it with me in the hopes i will get to play it as someone is slipping around on an icy sidewalk trying to correct their balance in a comical way 5Sound inconsistentThe whistle itself is sturdy, but the plug at the end leaks a lot while sliding. As a result when you pull the slide down the note starts high, then goes low, and then high, not the sound I wanted as I was planning on using it for a science lesson to show how the length of the tube influences the note.I was able to send this in for a full refund, a bit of a pain for a $5 object, but I was that determined to get my money back. 1Different from first order. Same seller both times. The first one I ordered, it was larger and worked perfectly. I ordered 3 more, and they are small and don t work correctly. Will be returning most likely, depending on how much the return shipping costs. 1Occasionally they will sound quite good, but more often than notNot at all adequate to use in my music classes. I had hoped that for $7 the product would be suitable for my kindergarten lesson. Nope. Sounds are very inconsistent. Occasionally they will sound quite good, but more often than not, it's just air. I'll have to spend even more money for an upgrade. Should have just gone with the "professional" one from the beginning. 2Dat slide It works great, the only way I can see this breaking is if you accidentally step on it. It has that classic slide whistle sound that will make you laugh just from playing it. 5My 60 cent slide whistle sounded better I originally got a cheap slide whistle as a gag gift, I ended up loving it!! So I decided to get a nicer one that wasn t 60 cents so I could get a full whistle when I d pull it. It s a twist of irony that the one 7 times more expensive ends up sounding even worse. I m sad by this and it s poor quality. Go to party city 1Product changeThe blue slide whistle was supposedly the same as the yellow which I purchased about 4 weeks earlier. I wanted to get more of the larger ones. I went to my orders and hit reorder and the blue ones showed up. Exact same product number but clearly a different product. The new ones are terrible. Very limited range. 1
