Customer Reviews

This is a fantastic TOY ukeleleThis is a fantastic TOY ukelele. I capitalized TOY because some of the reviews seem to be treating this as if it were an actual uke. We've had it for a month, my 3 year old loves it. Sometimes he takes it to bed with him and I can hear him playing it and singing before he falls asleep (best sound ever). We have daily toy uke and kazoo jams. It's well made, bright, cheerful, and fun. 5Cheap! Buy a real ukuleleThis lasted less than two months. My son dropped it and the neck broke off of the body. It s glued on very poorly and not made for well for kids. 1Nice for littlesThis was a huge hit for my 3 year old. We bought it for him as a birthday present after he spent months begging for a "little guitar." Its been 3 months since we gave it to him, and he still loves walking laps around the living room playing with it while making up random songs. It is difficult to keep tuned, but that is to be expected with the fine motor skills of a 3 year old playing it. When tuned it actually sounds pretty decent. I'm surprised how well it is holding up too, especially for not being kept in a case, and sometimes dropped on the floor. 5Disappointed with this purchaseDisappointed with this purchase. I ve been extremely pleased with Hape products but this does not hold to their standard. Based on the product s price, I would assume it would be well manufactured and assembled. I purchased this item for my toddler classroom and within one week, it had lost several screws. Loose screws are choking hazards for infants and toddlers as well as unacceptable for a child s toy. I have requested a return and will not be purchasing a product of such lowquality. 1Fun little uke, and absolutely tune-able (just takes a little patience)This little ukulele has brought so much music to our home. I've subsequently bought two more as gifts. It IS in fact absolutely tuneable and has a good sound; it just takes some patience. When you tune it for the first time you will notice that the strings quickly slacken again and fall out of tune. Just give the strings a day or two to settle. Keep tuning it back up and once the strings have settled they will stay nicely in tune. I last tuned ours weeks ago and I just picked it up and it's still very close to being in tune. Of course, your kid will probably love to play with it regardless of how it sounds. I just mention this for the folks who were disappointed with the tuning. We taught my son to be gentle with the ukulele but it has still taken some knocks and is no worse for wear. On the other hand, my niece managed to bang hers in just the right way to separate the neck from the body of the instrument. It's definitely not indestructible and some of them might be assembled better than others. (Amazon very promptly replaced the broken instrument).Update Nov 2017: Recently it became very difficult to turn two of the tuning pegs. I was disappointed and thought that the gears were stripped. Then I realized we just had to adjust the screws on the back of the tuning mechanisms. I loosened them a tiny bit with a Phillips head screwdriver and the pegs are easy to turn once again. 5Fun UkuleleI do really like this toy. One of my two year old twin boys really likes musical instruments and he carries this around everywhere playing it. He's not always terribly gentle with it and it holds up to some serious abuse. It's not "cheap". That said, I haven't figure out how to get it to play anything sounding like real music. It's never remotely in tune. I'm not sure it's possible to get it in tune. Still, my two year old likes playing it, he's not making great music with it or anything. He plays with it for hours. So, I'll call it a success for a toy Ukulele. 5Boy loved itMy Down Syndrome toddler was BEYOND thrilled when he got this, and would...not...put..it...down. By midday on Christmas Day he had managed to loosen the long straight bit (?) from the body of it, but it was being held together by a fairly substantial strip of laminated surfacing, so I just tacked it back with wood glue and hid it from him for a day. It's now April and we're going strong. The best thing about this is that you get a gentle 'strummy' noise from it and not the ghastly electronic cacophony that makes you want to put children out into the yard ... 5perfect first guitar for toddlerMy 23 month old LOVES this guitar or "tar" as he calls it. He is actually obsessed with it. Wants it all the time! Not 5 stars because the tuners on this are sort of difficult to work with. Great for the price but don't expect perfection. This is a toy. My husband and brother in law are guitarists and they both can play cute music on it but it is not a quality instrument. Overall, would definitely recommend and buy again for a toddler. Sharp parts on it for a younger child - would not recommend for younger than 20 months. 4Punk Rock ToddlerMy nephew totally loves this! It's a great little uke!! I made sure to tune it, and retune and retune. I kept tuning it almost every day for about a month until it stayed in tune.It really has lovely sound. I got a great Black Friday deal on it, and it was a great price, but even regular price, it's worth it. A great way to introduce music-making to kids.My only complaint is that it should come with some sort of guide. I had to get onto YouTube to figure out how to tune it. It really should come with a little tuning guide and a few simple songs/chords 4Totally worth it!Our 2yo daughter loved those cheap plastic fishing-line-string ukuleles from the bargain store, but they sound so bad and I was worried the thin strings which constantly popped off would cut her fingers. But this ukulele isn't really that much more expensive yet it is light years better. It's solid (versus a bunch of cheap snap-together plastic), the strings are safely attached and won't just pop out unless you totally unwind them, and it can actually be tuned and sound wonderful! I'm sure there is a big difference between this and a 'professional' ukulele, but I was able to follow along with Youtube instructional videos and a free 'ukulele tuner' smartphone app and get this thing sounding beautiful. After every few days I just pull out the app and it takes about 3 minutes to re-tune this thing, and it's good to go. And now, even her random toddler string-plucking sounds kind of pretty! 5
