Customer Reviews

Better less than than none at allI bought it in the 70s for our two sons. Our dour relatives came for Christmas and laughed playing it. Our boys loved it. Sure, its noisy and the kids get noisy right along with it and so did the some of the grown ups. It was fun. Any one could win.I bought it again in 2009 for our grandsons. We are now dour ourselves but we love to play it with our grandsons. Sure they get loud, so do I. We squeal, we groan, we laugh. The groaning takes place when the our personal hippo's neck get stuck in the open mouth position. (A quick pull forward restores the feeding beast.) The laughing takes place when we are all grabbing for the many "marbles". Sometimes they go flying. The game halts while we find it. Then back to the mayhem. The squealing takes place when we all want the last marble. [I too was sorry to see that the marbles were not glass as before and that the hippos necks get stuck. But the hippos stay in the tray better than the old ones and I am just glad to be able to have it to play with the grands.]When we are ready to play another game we place all 20 marbles in a plastic bag, secure it in a hippo's mouth and pop it up on a closet shelf where little hands can't get it. We control when it is played for now. A quiet game or reading books follows and everyone settles down. 4NOT FUN. CHEAP. Pain in the REAREND!Horrible. It is cheaply made. I paid $30 for junk! For that price i shouldn't have to assemble it every time as it can not be stored in tact with the under marble storrage container. And it is a pretty boring game. And a pain in the rear if yuou have hardwood floors! The frame is so cheap and shallow the LIGHT WEIGHT balls bounce out and roll EVERYWHERE. Totally not the marbles I remember as a kid. The 2 and 6 littles were meah after 2 games. (No, the kids do not have access to a gameing console. Just boring educational crap on tablets. ) They liked and still do play with the Gone Fishing game. Still the cheap game favourite I would get at the Flea Market as a child. 1TERRIBLE quality - upset childrenThis is an EXTREMELY poorly made product. It is unsteady and the necks and heads stick when the kids try to push them down. One of the heads (yellow) doesn't lift at all. We JUST got it the day before yesterday. This is nothing like the quality of the ones we had as kids. AVOID THIS ONE! 1This is a very fun game to play with your family This is a very fun game to play with your family. Hungry hungry hippos is a classic that is fun for almost all ages. Our son is 2 and we play with him often. He's been playing this game for about 1 month now and is still loving it. We think it's OK since he isn't mouthy with his toys but we warn you to be careful since the balls are very small and they feel like they can potentially cause choking.Hungry Hungry Hippos is something we both grew up playing so to come back to it was exciting. However the quality has degraded from the sets we were used to. The plastic feels cheap and the parts are flimsy. This doesn't necessarily take away from the game but it holds up the experience. It is a fun game to play with children and toddlers as long as it I supervised. Growing up this was one of my personal favorite games, always brought laughs and good family memories. It seems to be doing the same for my son. The game itself is not as well made as I remember but has not broke after months of use.I recommend this game for kids just learning how to play interactive games. It does not have a lot of rules and is easy to learn 3Misleading Picture - you are buying the NEW version, not the originalI bought this product from this seller specifically because I thought I was getting the old version of the game, which is a better quality and nearly impossible to find. The picture shows the old version of the game, and on the page there is (or was) a link that would take you to a DIFFERENT page for the newer version, at a completely different price. I reasonably concluded, therefore, that I was buying the old version. Nevertheless what I received was the new version, which is terrible. The "marbles" are plastic, the hippos have to be assembled to play and then disassembled again if you want to put the game back in the box, and their necks get stuck when you try to play. I contacted the seller and was satisfied with how they handled my complaint but so far they have not changed their misleading picture of the game. 2What a joke!I bought this over a year ago. I had to leave this review because it still bothers me to this day. This game is a joke! The quality is so poor that I threw the whole thing away months ago. I had one of these games when I was little and it was super fun and sturdy- this is a classic example of cheap foreign manufacturing... I should have read the reviews first. The hippos don't stay attached very well and the necks are always getting stuck open, and this is even with careful adults playing the game!! Plus, the fact that it doesn't go back in the box, makes it hard to keep all those little balls locatable. After a few plays one of the hippos head broke off and you can't play it on carpet because the hippos don't sit even with the game board. Overall, probably my worst Amazon purchase ever! 1adult assembly required every timeDefinitely a kid favorite game--My children (ages 7 and 5) like to bring this game out every once in a while for a few days. Here are two things I did not know about this game. First, the white marbles from this game are smaller and lighter that regular marbles. If you lose them you can not replace the lighter white marbles with regular marbles.Second, you have to completely take apart the game to store it back in the original box. The hippo heads snap off ,as well as, the hippo bodies from the game base. You even have to press the hippo neck extension lever down and lock it in place or it won't fit back in the box.I assumed little ones could just pull this game out of the box and play and it wouldn't matter if a marble was misplaced. 4Cheap cheap cheapIf I could give this 0 stars I would. I first bought this as a birthday present in November but decided to save it for a Christmas present. (And now I can't return it...) Well my son opened it on Christmas and I took out all of the CHEAPLY MADE pieces to put it together. We tried to play ONE time. The "marbles" which are just plastic, do not fit in the hippo!!! This is an expensive game that's made to resemble the high quality game some of us had as kids. It is nothing like it and so disappointing. 1Not like the original gameI wanted to like this toy. Had I opened it before I gave it as a present, I would have returned it. It's incredibly cheap: the hippos' heads get stuck when being used; the game doesn't sit level on the table, so the balls get stuck in the center and the game shifts unless you hold it down, but if you hold it down then the balls roll to the side being held down. The game only comes with less than 20 balls so it's over incredibly quickly, and the balls are lightweight, not like the heavier marbles, so they fly everywhere. 2The perfect game for young childrenBought this for my grandson. I went through the game when it arrived. I had no problems putting it together, playing with it and also putting it away, so it would fit back into the box. I did not have any problems putting the hippos onto the game board and it fit snuggly and there were no loose areas when we began to play with the game. Everything snaps off easily and it fits in the box after putting it away.. I do recommend this game for young children there are many different ways to play the game if you have very young children, and everyone is excited and happy to play . Well worth it 5
