Customer Reviews

Very cheap plastic, don t expect it to last long (ie: a week)I love everything I have ever bought from Learning Resources & we have DOZENS of LR toys, but this is one purchase I wish I could get a refund on. The material is an incredibly cheap plastic. My son banged the frying pan on the counter of his play kitchen & it snapped off the handle the second time he ever played with it. The lid for the pot doesn t even stay in place & slides off when he moves it from the stove top. It s really not well made at all, which shocks me because their other products are so great. Skip this & buy something made from stainless steel, which is what I had to do. 2Finally a Big Enough Set!For some reason the current trend in toy pots & pans is to make them too small to work with the vast majority of the play food that's available. Most of the metal sets I looked at had this issue, as did all of the wood sets (incl. Melissa & Doug), with the exception of this Pro set from Learning Resources & a metal set from Toy Chef. I went with plastic over metal after thinking about the possibility of the pots being thrown. These pots & pans are sized just right for little hands, little kitchens, and toy food. Finally! The accompanying photos are of a 2-1/2 yr old's hands playing in a Kenmore wooden kitchen, with plastic food from mixed sets. The soup pot can fit a whole slew of vegetables, and the frying pan is big enough to hold a plastic fried egg. The set also comes with a roomy sauce pot, 2 lids that do a great job of mimicking glass, an oven mitt that actually fits my daughter's hand, and a spatula & 2 large stirrers that have a little give to the softer plastic, which is ideal. The set came with 3 plastic food items, very basic, they're just freebies. With nearly all cooking sets you have to buy the food separately. My daughter has banged these pots around quite a bit & they've held up. I think the makers have struck a nice balance between sturdiness & keeping the pots lightweight; these wouldn't survive too many rounds outside making mudpies or lugging around rocks without losing a handle, but otherwise they'd be fine. My only issue is that although the lids fit the pots, they tend to clatter off a bit too easily. All around, they're great, I'd buy them again, give them as a gift, absolutely recommend them.(Note: Learning Resources also makes a different set of pans in both primary & pastel colors. They're cute, durable, don't clang, but have that too-small issue; better suited for under-age-2 chefs) 5My son loves this setI can definitely understand he complaints about the quality as these are clearly cheap plastic and likely won't last long. Also the package did arrive damaged. But as it was a gift for a 2 year old who is cooking crazy I am still pretty happy with the purchase for the price. It likely won't last long on our hardwood and tile floors, but at the price point I won't mind replacing them when they do and he loves how realistic they look. I'd recommend this to anyone with your children who have a love of cooking. I'd give it more stars if it was just constructed a little more soundly. 3Nice starter set but very thin cheap plastic. Spatula and spoons not the same as photos.I am a huge "Learning Resources" fan but this pot and pan set is so cheap that it is hard to believe it is from the same company. The set comes with a stock pot, a sauce pan, a skillet, 2 clear plastic lids, a spatula, a cooking spoons, a knife, a oven mitt, a chicken leg, corn on the cob, carrot and fry egg and write and wipe activity guide. If you are wondering what the sizes are: the pot is shy of 3" deep x 6" wide with a 1.5" handle on each side, the pan is shy of 3" deep x 6" with a 4.5" handle and the skillet is also 6" wide but only 1.5" deep with a 4.5" handle. The 2 lids fits on top of the pot, pan and skillet but they can't be stacked on top of each other without tipping over. Which makes it annoying to store. All the play food fits inside the cookwares. Nice small size for young toddler hands and very light-weight which is great for the younger kids. The play food is made with a much thinner plastic that reminds be of Chinese take-out container lids. The oven mitt is nice and thicker than others that I have received with kitchen sets. I didn't have 2 spoons as stated in the descriptions instead I have what looks like a flat knife-like mixing spatula and a long flat measuring spoon with a scoop on each end. The cooking spatula does not have a black grip-like handle with 4 slits like in the photo.I am wondering if my set was a mistake because the cooking spatula is 2 inch shorter than the other cooking tools and it looks nothing like the ad. PHOTOS under my profile. Also, the lids are so cheap that mine came with a small crack on the edge and I am afraid that over time it will crack all the way through. This is a nice started set but I can not see it lasting longer than a year. The lids, pot, pan, and skillet's black handles are held together with tiny thin screws. If they are dropped too hard or banged too often, or perhaps even stepped on, that's the end of this set.The only thing I like are the play food, cooking tools and the oven mitt. For the price I paid for this set it is not worth it and I rather return it and buy my daughter a different set and play food separately. 3Perfect toddler play dishesMy 16 month old daughter was given this as a Christmas gift so she would stop stealing mommy's good cooking pot and trying to "cook" with metal utensils. This is perfect! The pieces are the perfect size for her small toddler hands, but they look like the real things. They are made of a very durable plastic that will withstand her abuse but still be light enough for her to hold in one hand easily. My only complaint is that the lids are just slightly smaller than the pots, so they can be shoved down inside at an angle, which makes it difficult for my daughter to get it back out. No big deal though since I can just withhold the lids until she's bigger. My daughter didn't care about any other gift once she saw this box. She couldn't get into it fast enough. Her complaint was she couldn't decide which end of the "spoon" to use for cooking. lol. She was so confused until she finally decided the bigger end was better. 5Pots & pans setMy daughter loves pretending to cook with this set. I am giving it 4 stars only because I am not sure about the plastic's durability. Like other reviewers said, only time will tell. The handles seem slittle flimsy and the pans themselves feel thin. I don't know about the size compared to other sets because we've never had another set. My favorite peice is the little oven mitt. My least favorite are the cheapy plastic food peices. But my daughter loves the little egg. I wish the little utensils didn't have a big 'made in china' printed on them. But I think the price is right. I would love a more durable wooden or metal set but this set is good for now.EDIT: These plastic pots and pans are holding up great! The oven mitt is still my daughter's favorite, and I forgot to mention before the set comes with a little activity book, that we sometimes pretend is a recipe book or menu. I did end up buying a realistic utensil set that was real wood and metal and it worked out fine. 4I m a little disappointed in the quality of the food and pots/pansI m a little disappointed in the quality of the food and pots/pans. They feel pretty cheap and I m afraid they will crack. Learning Resources has another line called New Sprouts and those play foods and accessories have been great. 3Happily SurprisedThese worked nicely when we gave our 3yo a play kitchen for Christmas. We call her "The Destroyer" for a reason, so we intentionally bought something kinda cheap, not wanting to spend a lot on something she would likely break. These have held up nicely, to be honest. Surprised us at the quality. BUT the one thing that annoyed me a little was that when we first opened the box, the lids didnt fit well. They (or maybe the pots?) Were just slightly warped. No matter. She couldnt care less. She has put them through heck and they are still working great! 4Very disappointed in this setVery disappointed in this set. I was surprised at the poor quality. I had also bought a Learning Resources Sprouts Dinner Basket and was delighted with it. The plastic feels cheap and brittle and very thin. The pan lids either don't fit (as with the skillet) or are so poorly engineered that they won't stay on the pans. The clear plastic was scratched and marked up. The play food that came with the set was very cheap. (And that surprised me since they make such wonderful play food.) I am returning the set and ordering a different set for my grand daughter's Christmas. 1not as well made as most Learning Resources productsUsually I am highly pleased with the Learning Resources products, but this cooking set is lacking. The plastic pots aren't as durable as I'm used to by this brand. Also, the food pieces are the thin plastic that you can easily dent. Again, not what I'm used to when purchasing the Learning Resources brand. However, it is a very cute set and my three year old daughter loves to play with it. 3
