Customer Reviews

Expensive but worth getting if you want to have a more complete set!Although expensive, this is an excellent addition to the Planeswalker Area game, it includes 4 extra playable characters, and expanded rules along with double-sided map tiles and lots of elevated terrain items plus further expanded rules, even some of the 'champion' monsters can be used a playable characters!5This is a fun, light combat game with minisNeat expansion that offers more variety, more monsters, more landscapes. It is more!If this is the course of the future expansions then that will be a glorious future. If this is the end of the line then that is a shame. This is a fun, light combat game with minis.4Very fun game to play with friends and family alikeVery fun game to play with friends and family alike. You pick your main plainswalker (hero/summoner), and summon in supporting troops as you travel along the gaming board. There are scenarios to play or you can set up the field for a heads up fight. There are review videos on YouTube that can give a better description than I will be able to give in this writing, but I personally can tell you that 5 stars isnt nearly enough for how fun this game has been.5and a few friends have already had hours of fun playing this gameI bought all 3 that were out in July 2017... My twin 13 year old boys, myself, my brother, and a few friends have already had hours of fun playing this game. You can pick out your hero pair him/hr up with miniature army and let the game begin. You can add/subtract much of the game content to make it as quick/fun/complex/strategic as you desire. There are quite a few good rule suggestions and alternative games like co-op, teams, etc. that come at a surprisingly easy pace to learn... Highly recommend this game!5I highly recommendMTG AotP is a great game. It would be an amazing game if Hasbro would continue to support it with more content, terrain, armies..At the current prices, you can get all three releases for less than the original price of the first. If you snag about $25-$40 of additional Heroscape terrain off Ebay, it changes the game into something you can play for years and years.Even if there is never another release for this game, it is still easily worth it to buy all three now. I've been thinking about getting another full set of the three releases to add to the first. This game has the potential to be massively expanded and customized. Your imagination is the boundary.5Awesome Expansion that can also be a Stand Alone GameThis is a significant addition to the game with both additional planeswalkers and squads and new heroes. There is new terrain, the rules are better written than the base addition and this can be a stand alone game. There are so many improvements and additions that it truly rounds out the MtG AotPW series. Of course, I hope for more expansions (more terrain and more soldiers would be most welcome), but if they make no other expansion, this one was enough to really do the series justice. (If they don't make any more expansions, I recommend Heroscape terrain, which is compatible.)5Solid Base set/Awesome ExpansionMTG:AOTP-Shadows Over Innistrad is a new base game/expansion for the Arena Of The Planeswalkers series. The original base set was great with my only real criticisms being that the instructions were a little vague and that you didn't really have any options for deck/army building. But Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast are finally looking to change that.As an expansion, Shadows Over Innistrad (as well as the previously released Battle for Zendikar) really put those concerns to rest. With 4 new Planeswalkers and a number of different colored spell cards and squad/hero figures, player have a wealth of new customization options to explore. While this set is lacking in colorless creatures and cards, the options for the included characters as well as the previously released ones are varied and can better suit a player's unique style. This set also comes with 4 double sided terrain boards that can either expand the original base set arena or be flipped over to let players battle in all new bizarre plane of the multiverse, filled with all-new wonders and horrors: Innistrad. As a base set, this is a solid game, however the included scenarios leave a bit to be desired and the lack of terrain boards/pieces mean battles will start to feel familiar rather quickly. But the characters and creatures in this set are more than enough to keep new players interested for tons of playthroughs. There are 4 new Planeswalkers including 2 multi colored Planeswalkers that allow for a more broad range of customization and strategy and a werewolf character that can change forms and gain different abilities.Overall, while I personally feel that Shadows Over Innistrad makes for a better expansion than a base game, it is great fun on its own and serves as an absolutely perfect starting point for new players. The instructions are marginally better than the original but still not perfect, so if you are a new player and get lost remember that the internet has tons of forums and tutorial videos that will clear up any confusion. As a whole, the 3 available sets for Arena of the Planeswalkers now open up the game so much more and give it that really deep experience that I think alot of people have been craving, but still leaving the option open for lighter, casual play that I think set it apart from its predecessor Heroscape. I really, really enjoy this game, in fact it's easily among my favorites, probably of all time. I enjoy all of it's sets so far and I really hope it's successful enough to keep going. I highly recommend this set, and if you're a new player don't hesitate to start here.5My dorky hubby loves itI got this as a gift for my husband. He use to play Magic in highschool and i thought this would be a really cool nostalgic thing for him to have.I wasnt too sure if hed actually play with it or not but I figured hed love it....and he does! I will say he kinda felt overwhelmed when he opened up the manual he said and i quote "This is like some dungeons and dragons sh*t"lololol... I think he really loves the idea behind it and the characters it comes with..still not too sure if hes actually going to play with it but id say its kinda perfect for the Magic enthusiast or collector.5The angel and clerics are great miniatures, The terrain tiles also useful for rpg'sjust the miniatures alone are worth more than this costs. The angel and clerics are great miniatures, The terrain tiles also useful for rpg's . The miniatures paint up nicely. You really can't beat the bang for your buck.the game itself is fairly easy to learn and family friendly and fun. But the real value here is the miniatures. They can be used for any rpg. The theme is versitile, and event he prepainted planeswalkers care useful.this set has better paint jobs than the base set, as well.buy enough copies and you can really customize your deck. the game needed a few more sets to really show its potential... but as is typical, this one is probably dead in the water. take advantage of the value.5Fun stuffIf you like tabletop games and MTG, this is easily worth the thirty bucks. The minis are cool, and the Plainswalkers come with decent paint jobs. I actually like that none of the squad creatures came painted, I've had a good time painting them all myself. I do wish it came with more 3D terrain, and maybe some more cards for a better deck building experience. But that's really the only reason I have it four stars instead of five. What you do get is nice and worth the money. I know a lot of people but it just for the minis to play D&D and dont even bother with the game. The rules take a little time to master, but if you've played MTG and heroscape, you'll find a lot of parallels, it's a good mash up and once you get a grip on it the games are fun. If you are a do it yourselfer, you will love it; painting the minis is cool, and you can use anything you want to make custom terrain or scenery for personalized scenarios.4
