Customer Reviews

Travel-sized Mexican Train GameThe dominoes are approximately 3/4"x1 1/4".You can fit 12 of them horizontally on a regular wood domino tray using one of the 3 rows on the tray.Or 36 dominoes, in all, if you are playing with that many at one time.Vertically, if you wish to line up your dominoes like this with your train representing the bottom numbers, you can fit about 18 verticals on one row.Whether you line up the dominoes horizontally or vertically you can see both number sides. This is nice as you don't have to crane your neck or lift your dominoes up a little to see what numbers you have. These trays work better with the smaller dominoes b/c you have more room for the domino.Larger, full-size dominoes take most of the slot space up and therefore the numbers are more obscured. The smaller dominoes do not slip out of the tray. These dominoes also stand up on their horizontal side just fine without a tray being used.I did not have them falling over when placing them on the table even when I purposely hit the table a few times to see what would happen. The numbers on these dominoes are colorful and the numbers are indented into the domino, not painted on the surface wherethey are more likely to wear off.Number 6 has a line under it and is yellow. Number 9 has no line and is lavender. The station is a very thin piece of foam, but I have two plastic stations that make the train noise so will just bringmy least favorite one with when traveling. The carry case seems to be well-made with two zippers at opposite ends that meet in the middle. Also a ribbon carrying strap at one end.On the case are printed, in red, the words Puremco Mexican Train. The cardboard sleeve over the black case hides this.I checked the dominoes right away upon delivery and all 91 dominoes were there...no duplicates and none missing. They were shrink-wrapped in such a way I could count down quickly from 12-12 to 0-0 to easily check them. The 8 glitter train pieces, that I received, were dark green, light green, teal, magenta, red, blue, silver, and gold. The trains come in a self-seal plastic bag.The greens and teal are very close in color so if you play with more than 6 people use a few other colorsto avoid color confusion. This is not to say everyone will get these same colors, but if you do you know what you are getting.Included is a fold-out for Domino Game Rules: Mexican Train, Chickenfoot, Castle Rock, and Muggins (Straight Dominoes). This is a very nice mini Mexican Train set for traveling or if you use a smaller table as your game table.Very pleased with the quality of this set. 5So cute and tiny! Sure to incite riots in my family. In my family, Mexican Train is our favorite pastime. Every time we get together, the tiles come out and the yelling starts. Every generation plays and gets competitive. You would think we were fighting over politics, it gets so out of control. I bought the travel version for an upcoming train trip (no kidding!) and it is perfect.People complained about the numbers coming off, but mine are set into the tile so I don't see a problem. Of course, my family is hardcore when it comes to MT so all our tiles take a beating, especially when we start throwing them at each other. I'll keep you updated. The little carrying case is sturdy with formed sides but is not too rigid. This will be great for when my father yells at my husband for derailing him and throws it at his head.Love the numbers versus dots. This is going to be to so great in round seven when I am drunk and can't tell a nine from an eleven. I see many arguments quashed before they begin. Oh the cussing we will curb. It will be so much easier to keep an eye on my aunt when she tries to cheat too. Can't wait to take my crazy family MT drama on the road! Cover your ears, California Zephyr riders and practice your bob and weave. 5Very compact and in a durable caseI hesitated at first to buy this product because of some previous reviews about the painted numbers not being embossed and wearing off of the tiles. I suspect there has been an upgrade because the product we received has embossed numbers and look like they will be long lasting. Also pleased with the case which is semi-rigid and holds the tiles well. Weight of case, tiles, trains, and hub is only 1-3/4 lbs which is important if traveling and there are luggage weight restrictions. Only minor complaint is the very cheap hub made out of some foam material. A light gauge plastic would be much better. Remember that this is a travel set and the tiles are smaller than regular ones. But for the purpose intended, the product is excellent. The tiles are 1/4" thick. While they will stand on their own, any table motion will likely topple them. So now I'm looking for a couple of small lightweight tile holders. May end up making those myself. 5Good travel version but could be betterThis a good travel version of the popular Mexican Train domino game. It weights 1.75 lb compared to the full set of 4.25 lb - a 60% reduction. The volume is also considerably smaller than the full set. The tiles are about the same thickness as the full set, so they stand well on their sides. The weight reduction comes from the case, and the length & width reduction of the tiles, but the travel version tiles are still good sized. The numbers are recessed and painted, so they will not rub off when playing the game. The numbers on the tiles are numeric on the travel version compared to dots on the full set. As others have said, it just takes a little getting used to. I gave it 4 stars because it is a good travel version, but it could be better. I would like it lighter (for airplane travel), and the 8 train markers should be 8 different colors. My set came with 3 green markers. 4I bought this set hoping for the best but not thinking they would be very good quality ...I bought these to play on our cruise. The tables in public areas on ships are quite small so I knew a regular set of dominoes would not work well. I bought this set hoping for the best but not thinking they would be very good quality for the low price - they were perfect! We had four players and drinks on the table and everything fit. The dominoes also stand up on their sides without requiring a stand. The only downside we all commented on was the 9s and 6s; it would have been nice if they had underlined both numbers instead of just one. It was confusing at times. Also, not really a downside but just an observation - the trains actually should be a bit smaller in size because when placed on the track they block the view of the tiles in the game. The whole set weighs in at just under 2 pounds and everything fits easily back into it's original case each time. We played dominoes everyday we were at sea and had a blast! We kept hearing people pass us saying - ooooh, they are playing dominoes! :) Highly recommend for traveling! 5Great little game for the priceI wasn't even looking for a "travel size" game - just a game with actual numbers instead of dots. We love to play Mexican Train but for some reason my elderly mother has a problem with the dots. She is very sharp and we play lots of games but the dots just confuse her for some reason so I was looking for a domino with numbers. found this and am very pleased. Price is great! We've only used it once but the dominoes seem of good quality to me. Nice tiny case and size is a bonus too. I used to bring our full size set to my mom's and back and that actually required a small tote bag! 5Good for travelingSlightly smaller than a full size set and easier to read than the dots, for me at least. Only small issues are some of the numbers have paint peeling right out of the package and we got three slightly different green trains. The paint thing is not bad and it does not seem to be peeling any more. The three green trains are each a slightly different color but didn't cause too much confusion since we never play with more than 4 people anyway. We brought this set on a cross Canada train trip and on a cruise ship and it worked great for both. Obviously it is a little heavy but not terrible and does not take up very much space in luggage. 4Check your set when you receive it - it may not all be there.I hate to give bad reviews for anything so I'll start with the fact that this set of Mexican Train To Go Number Dominoes is the niftiest thing because they are compact for taking with you on vacation and they fit better on the wood domino racks made for regular sized dominoes. We loved having the numbers when it came time to add up the score. Now for the bad news. In the midst of playing our game, one player ended up with two (2) dominoes with the number "0-8" and upon stacking them all up and checking them out, we found the set did not contain the number "0-7." Bummer. I would like to order the set again, but I'm afraid the quality control might miss it again. I would have given this game by Puremco 5 stars if it had been numbered correctly. 3Compact and ready to goGreat size!Tiles are good quality and easy to handle. The trains are a good size - slightly bigger than monopoly markers - mine are multi color plastic with sparkles. Was concerned about the lack of description for quality, but this was wasted.Dimensions:Overall: 6.5w X 3.75h X 2.75h inchesWeight: about 2#Dominoes: 1.5 X 0.75 inches 5Great to play with when there are more than two people!!Love these. The numbers are easy to see and read. Much easier than trying to count dots and determine colors that are too close to differentiate. These are smaller than standard dominos; but our group seems to like them better since it is easier to make the trains without putting six tables together. Saw some others that look like this, but the 6 and 9 are too close in color for my taste. These have yellow sixes and lilac nines. I am buying an extra set for our group and one for my sister ... that tells you how much I like these. These can stand up on their own, on their side; however, we like using the holders. My group has determined they prefer the wooden holders to the plastic.Only negative is the center piece. It is a small, flimsy, cardboardish/feltish type of material. We actually take the center piece from another set, since the spacing is bigger. Small issue when the main thing is having the room to play and all of us ladies over 45 being able to read the numbers! 5
