Customer Reviews

Very good value with one sigificant limitationAfter using this for a month or so both on my own and with my granddaughter, I would recommend this product with one limitation that is fairly serious for some users, that it really does not work at all with children - even my 11 year old grand daughter could never get it to respond. This is mentioned in one of the discussions but is not advertised up front.Otherwise , it works well and is very easy to get working. For an adult voice it is reasonably reliable in properly interpreting spoken commands although it does begin to have trouble if the commands are too similar to each other. Very convenient that it also includes text-to-speech capability as well. The MOVI spoken voice is also reasonably easy to understand for almost all text.45) If an external mic is recommended, it would be nice if they provided some ...For the most part, it works. Got it to work with not much fuss with the simple sketches provided. The primary problem is that it is very slow... 1) If you want quick actions to take place don't get this device. 2) Another issue is the built-in mic. You have to stick your face in it before MOVI picks you up, even in a quiet room. 3) Slow, you have to say the call sign and wait for the beep-beep, with a slight pause then say your phrase then another beep-beep. Would prefer it just allowed the call-sign (prompt word) to be used in a phrase, 4) if you start the phrase/sentence too soon after the beep MOVI does not respond or comes back with it can't hear you. 5) If an external mic is recommended, it would be nice if they provided some kind of specification for type required, without having to dive into their MOVI forum... I tried a couple I had around to no avail. 6) Unexpected: The simple sketches, say for turning an LED on/off eats up over 30% of the Arduino UNO code space. IN SHORT, if you are looking for something that will give you reliable responses in a timely manor don't spend $75 on this thing.. If you can tolerate low reliability and are not interested in quick response times then MOVI will probably work for you. More notes: The MOVI library, the library recognizer.functions & options & KEYWORDS should be documented in the User Documentation like, poll, password, beeps, setThreshold, ask, getResult, etc. One has to travel through the example sketches to find out what's available and discern usage. Would be nice to have a function to modify MOVI voice. That is, have options for the sentence voice to be different then that of the MOVI status. The MOVI voice is really 1970s sounding for a digitized voice... On the UP side, I have to say that the example sketches do provide some significant incite into how to program and use the MOVI. Hope this helps anyone looking to use this device. It works, BUT....3Super Duper. 4 beginners also! This board was easy to configure..and het working..can control multiple servos etc.. the robot can respond to anyone.. and yes even my 10 year old ..and he talks softly and it responds forst try... (if some says it does not eespond to children..they are doing something wrong) does not matter the voice. (We used it in a robot) in one day we had it hooked up and talking with us ..it can respond to voice.. and we even have sensors that detect motion and ulttasonic we have this movi board responding to different signals.. it works really well..and it can play sounds also ..and the large capcity for recognized commands makes it hugely versatile.. we got this october 2017 and it works great. And we are new to progtamming and arduino..it was a Great Buy!5VERY *VERY* happy with the MOVI!!!!!Using this for a quadriplegic patient so they can control their electronics.Had another device I tried that was a total disappointment. The MOVI is easy enough to interface with an Arduino and works amazingly well with the normal noises in the room completely stumped the previous device I tried.GET ONE if you need speech recognition! Is it perfect? No, nothing to do with speech recognition at this time is problem free, but the MOVI is probably the absolute best.5Really awesome productThis is actually really great. It works really well and is very easy to learn how to use at a basic level. The documentation is great and I love working with it. I had an issue with it and the sellers were really helpful. They replied to me very quickly and we fixed the issue very easily. They even reminded me that if we couldn't fix it, I would be able to get it replaced through the insurance.Great experience and loving the shield so far.5Nice set of features all in oneIt is an interesting and versatile little device. It offers a lot more than the other VR modules I've used with Arduinos. Some of the highlights would be:- Arduino-compatible shield- Does both voice recognition and speech- Can handle hundreds of words/sentences at the same time (I tested with around 500, other ones I tried only support one group of 7 or 8 w/s at a time)- Built-in mic works great- Nice docs, examples, easy to program- Direct communication/support from creators on their forum- Firmware uses microSD card, so it can be upgraded- Not strictly limited to the arduino, uses serial communication so other devices can be interfaced with it as wellIt only took a few minutes to get it to do what took me hours with my other VR modules, so just the time I saved was worth every penny. It uses clean text strings on serial, so there was no need to write complicated code that manipulates single bits to issue commands or find out what words were spoken. I really like that it can answer back with speech, as it's more natural to use voice both ways.Considering all the other features, convenience and online support, I think it really deserves 5 stars.I've used it on Arduino Uno and Mega, on ESP-12e, and straight to the computer via serial/usb adapter.5True vocal interfacing with text to speech feedback! This is one amazing little shield buyers! It does everything you think it does.Great API, great code examples and easy to build upon. I coupled this shield with a ESP8266 for storing and retrieving data from a database and stream it over the text to speech feature within some really creative dialog interfacing. If you are looking for a nearly limitless option to vocally interface with project and receive text to speech feedback, the look no further!Excellent purchase!5Purchased Two and Working WonderfullyI purchased this to set up a text adventure game, except using speech in and out. In one weekend we set up everything. This was from first time we powered it up, to when we had responses to many many questions. We also used long integers 32 bits long, and tracked as questions were answered. It provides a sentence number and we used the sentence number to clear bits (that is, to remember which questions were answered) and release about eight questions at a time. Was easy to setup so that one had to work each group of questions, before the next set was answered. I know that was complicated to some, but the recognition and speech was the easy part. It just worked! We did have to experiment a little to choose the best wakeup word so it was reliable. Even so, setup and examples given made this an easy task. Son was super happy. Learned Arduino and Movi in a fun way. When my son took the project, I purchased another. Currently considering using more of these.5Speech recognition works amazingly well, speech works fine, and very simple to use!The voice recognition works really well - I was amazed at the accuracy, and it is speaker independent so you don't have to train it with your voice. Training involves programming in a list of sentences that you'll be expecting it to recognize. The speech synthesis also works great - very generic voices that are similar to what you've heard elsewhere. Not even close to Siri quality, but totally adequate for most needs. There are a ton of sample programs that illustrate myriad ways to use this with an Arduino. They all worked flawlessly for me, and answered a lot of my questions about what I could and couldn't do. You can look at all of the sample programs and documentation online before you commit to buying the board. The board does not need to be used as a shield, and doesn't even require an Arduino -- it just needs power, and Rx, and Tx serial lines to send and receive commands - plus a reference voltage for the serial if you are connecting to a 3.3v microcontroller (defaults to 5v and does not need a reference voltage in that case.)I'm not quite sure how this product could be improved -- it just works so well and is so simple. The recognition could be a bit more accurate, and the speech could be a bit more intelligible - but that's being pretty nit-picky for a $75 device that is so well designed.5Works great! This board worked great for me. I used it with a Funduino Mega to add speech recognition and text-to-speech to my EV3 robot. I had some problems with the on-board mic, but an external wireless mic works pretty well. It doesn't understand my grandkids no matter what mic I use so that's disappointing.5
