Great Buy!I wanted to say that I was very impressed with this RC truck, ESPECIALLY at this price. The truck looks great, and expensive. Personally, I enjoy the much larger ones (I own a Traxxas X-Maxx) but I bought this one for my son. For a brushed motor this thing is quick and powerful and just wants to bash around. The quality is as good, if not better, than ones that cost twice as much. The adjustable suspension allows you to change the ride height and it's built sturdy. Redcat Racing gets a bad rap sometimes online, but I think the people that write bad stuff about it don't know what they're talking about.Like other reviewers have stated, in the RC hobby things break if they are abused or if you drive them into a tree at 25 mph, but sometimes you do that and you drive away, it doesn't matter what brand it is.Overall this truck is a win. Great look, great suspension, good tires, great design, and above average build quality. If you can spare a few extra bucks, the brushless version is even better.Want to make a kid (or adult for that matter) happy? Buy this truck and work your way up. I don't think you could get more value for the money or more fun! 5When it runs it is tons of fun, but parts break VERY easilyThis product is complete junk. Within a couple weeks, 2 major parts had broken. Customer service from Redcat was fine the first time something broke. Less than a month after getting it back up & running another major part had broken. That time customer service was very rude and unhelpful. After multiple escalations (not an easy thing to navigate) we were finally able to get the part ordered. When it runs it is tons of fun, but parts break if you look at it funny. 1Customer service is not as good as the advertise ( Beware potential buyers )The car seemed great and there was one very excited 10 Y/O boy on Christmas morning !! So the car is advertised to be water proof and I turned the boy loose with an advertised water proof car well after driving through a couple shallow puddles on our ice covered driveway the car was DOA. We dried it out overnight and it worked fine again, well out to the driveway my son goes and once again dead car. He didn't drive the car enough to discharge the 3000MAH battery.Second time drying out I noticed the car listing to one side on the front end, the cone washer on the front shock was missing causing no pre-load on the shock !!. Well I made sure the other side was loaded but after the car dried out again the other side cone washer was GONE !I contacted customer service and was given the complete run around goat rope E-mail chase that was horrible and completely a waste of my time. I was contacted back to verify order number then to verify purchase location. I ended up sending screen captures of the original order with all the information they asked for in the couple e-mails they sent to verify my order. I have heard nothing since and it has been a week.So I fixed the shocks for now while I wait for the new shock (I ordered on my own) set to arrive in the mail by zip tie-ing the bottom of the spring to the shock ram to add some pre-load to get by for now. Also I swapped out the receiver with FlySky I had from another model.Beware potential buyers you will be on your own with this model and I understand now why the price point is so cheap !! 1Buy it. Invincible - fast - radio tested to 300 yards line of sightI was blown away by this car. It is fully water proof and fully functional in a few inches of sleet. The car was packed dense sleet, so i put in in the lundry tub and let it all melt. - cant believe it had not effect on the car.It does roster tails under full throttle and last 15 to 20 mins on tbe sandard battery.I stongly recommend getting a lithium battery that boost overall speed and battery life is increased to 20 to 30 minutes.I tested the car at a known distance of 300 yards by tying a balloon to the top of the car and just sending it on its way at full throttle. It could have probably gone further, but i only had 300 yards.I have driven this on all surfaces doing anything i felt like, and nothing has broken.Please note it looks like if you crash and it hits a wheel, you might need to get some spare parts. So the best advice, just dont crash into a post that hits the wheel only. 5Fun and durableAt no time has Redcar paid or given me anything for this review. For the money I give it a 10. Fun and durable. I've purchased 5 GP toys S912. I've returned all 5 with same problems. Then GP Toys tells me not to drive in dirt or sand but videos show this what's the point. Redcat in dirt, sand, mud what ever we throw at it no problem. Impressed would by another. Don't buy GP Toys S912. Waste of money. And I've purchased another Redcat for my 14 year old son. Again no problems. In both cars the battery takes the same time to charge. When racing the battery's last the same time. Prof everything's identical. I will push Redcat to my friends NOT GP TOYS S912 Trash. 5Best Rc Car EverThis is the best rc car I have ever had! I am an rc collector, and I can say that this car stands out of my collection. I've tested it with my gps, and it is very fast, at 35 mph! Also, it is very durable. I have taken it on ramps and crashed it hard. Though, it never breaks. The engine heats a lot, and sometimes, you have to let it cool down. But, that has never been a problem to me.The battery is a Hexfly 3000 milliamp hour (mah) battery. The only problem I have with the battery is that the wire insulation is coming apart on the end of the wires.The electronics are water proof. I drive this car in water that is higher than the car's tires. Though, when I am done using it, I dry it off. YOU HAVE TO DRY IT OFF! If you don't, then some of the screws and part of the shocks start to rust. I learned the hard way, but if it does rust, then you can take a wired sponge and scrub the rust off.This car also has an awesome body. I get compliments about it every time I use the car. (I put some extra stickers on the car for looks.) I also recommend buying new body clips, because you can lose them VERY easily.This is the best rc car I ever had. Definitely recommend buying it. 5Poor packaging..and..Plenty of good press on this RC truck lead me to believe this may be a somewhat isolated incident.First off let be begin by saying that I am not new to this hobby. So my review of this car is relatively accurate.The car arrived in it's display box without any other outer wrap or box. The box came partially unsealed and the one piece of factory tape seal that remained was yellowed and peeled from age. Not overly impressed from the go! Someone was in an awful rush to stuff this thing out the Amazon warehouse door post haste! This was a sold and fulfilled by Amazon product, so you can imagine my surprise!Upon unpacking the truck I noticed an older variant of the transmitter which indicated that this car is a few model years old. Strike 2. I'm willing to take one on the chin there and get this car ready for action. This was a family gift and we we're all chomping at the bit to get the batteries charged and the car outside to run for the first time.Once everything was bound up and ready to run we noticed a very loud clicking aost grinding sound coming from the drivetrain.This could have been a couple of different problems. I contacted Amazon immediately and let them know the issue we were experiencing. Waiting on a replacement at the time of this posting. Just checked tracking.. will update this review if/when the "new" one arrives. 3I like the TruckI like the Truck, it runs and drives great. I bought two of these at the same time. The problem i have with these two is....... First one the steering servo went out. It started grinding. We ran it in an open area like the instruction said. Now the second truck we where driving after we fixed the first one and about 1 min into it the other truck controller know started not returning back to center when you let it go, then it stopped moving. I'm worried that all im going to be doing it replacing parts to try and keep both of them working. thought i would spend time with my teenager driving these. seem we will be spending more money and time repairing them, then driving them. :-( 3Questionable Quality, Noisy Drivetrain!My experience with the Blackout XTE has not been great. Initially taking it out of the box I thought to myself this is a decent truck at this price point. Then I charged the battery and the excitement quickly dwindled into disappointment. The drivetrain on this truck is so noisy and no where near smooth. Sounds like something is grinding badly. Checked the spur gear engagement and thought they may have set it tight and this was the source of the noise. Decided to try adjust the gear lash to find one of the screws that holds the motor to the mount had the Allen wrench head rounded out from the factory. So in order to get the bolt out I had to basically disassemble the front end of the truck. Once I replaced the stripped screw and got the spur backlash just right, ran the truck to find out the noise was still there along with the grinding. Believe it's in the differentials themselves. In the end my son and I decided that this will just be a beater RC we can bash til it breaks and call this one a poor investment. I do own the Redcat Everest 10 and Redcat Everest Gen 7 Pro trucks (both purchased from Amazom :). Those two I would recommend but definitely would not recommend the Blackout XTE to anyone. 1Finally an R/C Truck for Christmas that Works!After many Christmases where we bought R/C cars and trucks that proceeded to break sometimes within minutes of being charged for the first time, we decided to buy a real R/C truck this year for our 8 year old and this one was a hit! We purposely bought a truck that is billed as being for off-road and climbing use and while it is very fast compared to toy R/Cs, it is slower than a race car hobby R/C would be and that means that our 8 year old can handle it just fine. We bought it for $129 here at Amazon and I think it was worth every penny.Pros:1. It really is RTR--Ready to Race. Out of the box, you just need to plug it in to charge using the charging cable provided. 8 hours for the first charge. It takes 8 AA batteries for the controller. Once charged, all we had to do was plug the battery into the motor, put the shell on with the clips provided, turn on the controller (first) and then turn on the car. They synced up immediately and we didn't even need to fiddle with the alignment/throttle/sensitivity, although those are all adjustable.2. Sturdy--It has plastic in some parts where it makes sense, but much of it is metal including a very heavy duty skid plate on the bottom. All of the guts are accessible and look well assembled.3. Very stable--I don't know enough about hobby R/C to know why (shocks, center of gravity?? who knows), but I know that my sons can flip a J turn at near to full speed and it doesn't roll. The only roll we've had was going off of a skateboard ramp crooked. :)4. Ease of driving = fun--My 8 year old figured out how to drive it quickly and now my 14 year old is bummed he didn't get one for Christmas and is saving up his money.5. Flat area on top of shell is a perfect place to mount a GoPro--The video is awesome and you can really get a sense of how fast this things goes.6. Battery life--We haven't timed it, but the battery seems to last a long time (i.e. the boys get cold before the battery dies).Con:1. The instructions could be laid out better for newbies. All of the information is there, but a quick start guide or a different way to explain things would be nice. But its not a fatal flaw. Just read carefully and you will find the info you need.2. We have had one breakdown. Due to a head on collision with the curb, the metal clip/sping/doohicky that connects the steering control arm to the steering servo was knocked off so that the steering control arm only pulled the arm back (to turn left), but couldn't push it forward (to turn right). With a little YouTube searching I was able to figure this out and was able to fix it with only a mini-screwdriver. It has happened one more time since then and I was able to fix it easily. I don't know if this is a common problem, a design issue, or just a fluke. This is what I took one star away for, however, I almost didn't put this as a con because 1) I was able to fix it and that has never been true with toy R/C cars and 2) this is a piece of the truck that can be replaced and/or upgraded, so if we find that it is not a great design we have a solution.So, with about 4 hours of run time in the hands of an 8 year old, 14 year old and their parents, we are having a lot of fun with this one. One more note, this is too fast for inside use, unless you have a huge house or you are skilled at driving very carefully. 4
