Customer Reviews

Great game, but crappy components/ artworkSleuth is a great game...my favorite deduction game actually. It's compact, easy to teach and so much fun to play. Highly recommend. But, my gripe is with the components on the Eagle Gryphon edition. What's going with the artwork and cardstock??!? It's so so so average!! And on top of that, such a small number of sheets where you solve the puzzle!! Do you see the quality of the games coming out these days?! C'mon guys, step up your game. 3One of the best pure deduction games, now with Sid Sackson's signatureSleuth is a classic deduction game by legendary designer Sid Sackson, and first appeared in 1971. It's gone through several editions over the years, including the highly recognizable original edition from 3M, as well as editions from Avalon Hill (1981) and Face2Face Games (2004). Sackson was an amazing game designer, and in Sleuth he took the core deductive elements from the classic detective game Clue, and distilled their essence into a pure deduction game, producing what is arguably one of the best ever in the genre. The basic concept of the game is that one card is removed from a deck of 36 gems, and the aim is to be the first player to use deduction to figure out the missing card. Each of the cards in the gem deck is one of four colours (red/yellow/green/blue), three types (diamond/opal/pearl), and three settings (solitaire/pair/cluster), making for exactly 36 unique combinations that are possible. The remaining cards in the gem deck are dealt to the players, and then players use cards drawn from a Search deck to ask other players questions about their cards in hand, tracking information on an information matrix in order to eliminate possibilities and figure out the missing gem. Unlike Clue, which has a generous dollop of luck through dice rolling and movement, Sleuth relies on pure deduction and logic. While the traditional and classic Clue is more suited to families with children, anyone who enjoys serious deduction and logic puzzling will find that Sleuth is by far the superior game when judged on that level. It's less thematic, granted, but by boiling down the game to its deductive essence, logical puzzle solvers won't miss any kind of narrative, because they're compensated more than adequately by immersing themselves in the challenges of pure logic.Gryphon Games has recently released a new edition of Sleuth in 2012 as part of their Sid Sackson Signature Series line. Sleuth has a time-tested and solid reputation, and both deduction game fans and Sid Sackson aficionados should be very pleased by this new release, which has the superb quality components that we've come to expect this publisher to deliver. So is Sleuth for you? Sleuth stands head and shoulders above most other horses in the field of deduction games. It certainly packs a lot of logical puzzling and gameplay into a small box in which two decks of cards are the main components. It's a proven game from a classic designer, and the attractive component quality of this smart looking new edition deserves to be warmly received by fans of the genre. - EndersGame @ BGG 4Like Clue without the board, great group game.I love Clue, but hate the game board aspect. This lovely game removed that. We have played it over and over, with the full spectrum of 3-7 players. It's great no matter how many are in. 5Great game, not for kidsThis game is like an advanced game of Clue, but without the murder. You really have to use your head as you figure out which gems have been selected. Lots of fun for an OLDER CROWD. Tried to play with some younger kids (8-12 year olds) and they had a hard time following the rules. 5Five StarsFantastic product and service. 5Loving this family game, but takes a while to ...Loving this family game, but takes a while to follow and to play. Not for kids with limited attention span 4Loved it in the 1980s, loving it again.Happy to find this game again after years. My 20-something daughter loves playing it with us. 5Love the themeLove the theme. This is basically Clue without the board. However, we kept getting caught up and confused about whether certain cards constituted as "one element" or "two element." I think the rules or card design could be written with more clarity to solve this issue. 3SleuthOne of my favorite games. Clue without the traveling. I like the options to make the game harder depending on who's playing. 5super quick delivery! much appreciated =)My sister-in-law introduced this game to us, and seeing how we really liked it, I decided to buy it for ourselves. We bought this during the Christmas period, and was half expecting that it would arrive only after the New Year. The shipment on this product was amazingly quick and prompt! 2 thumbs up for making the effort to send it out as early as possible, so we could enjoy it ourselves at an earlier date than we'd expected. Thank you so much!! 5
