    Nice complete kit for the moneyComes with everything you need, aside from maybe a play mat: nice quality tiles including extra red fives, scoring sticks, and a (kinda flimsy) wind indicator. Easy to recommend as a nice complete beginner's kit. 5Look elsewhere for an American Mah Jongg set, but this is a good Japanese mahjong set.Just what I wanted--a riichi mahjong set. I have other American and Chinese sets, but I specifically wanted a set with red fives to play Japanese riichi mahjong. Yes, the set is made in China, but is for playing Japanese Mahjong. The tiles are good density with a hefty feel, and seem to be durable so far. Some of the betting sticks had extra flashing that needed to be cleaned off. Still, a great value for the price.One thing some people may be put off by is that there are no numbers/letters in the corner of the tiles for English-reading-only players to tell what the tiles are. In a game I was playing with some new players, they kept having to peek at a sheet I printed for them to figure out what the number was in the character suit was or what wind they had. By the end of the game they were fine, though.As far as the lack of rules included in the package some reviews mentioned: I have found the included rules in other sets to be uniformly useless. Look for the European Mahjong Association rules PDF online and download that. Or, even better, buy a book on Japanese mahjong here on Amazon. 5Good set!An excellent travel set, perfect for carrying from place to place. I've gotten a lot of use out of mine, and would highly recommend purchasing it to anyone interested in learning the game. The tiles are durable and play well on a variety of surfaces. Though it isn't mentioned in the description above, there is a plastic sleeve on the interior of the case which can be used to store a scoring table or other notes.There are only a few minor issues, which I will list for sake of completeness. The paintwork is very clean on the tiles, but the betting sticks can be messy on one side. Also, the color range of the tiles is limited to red and black, so the "green" tiles are not colored as such. Finally, the bags which hold the betting sticks are very flimsy and began to tear soon after I started to use the set. I would suggest finding replacements as soon as yours start to deteriorate I found that resealable bags designed for screws or door hardware are the perfect size and are designed to be durable, so if you can find them, use them.Overall, I have played many games with this set and have yet to have any issues. Yellow Mountain Imports is having one sent from China, but it will take 17 days. Otherwise the set is nice and if not for this issue I would have left more stars. 17 days just seems like a long time to wait for a tile. I suppose it is coming from China. 3Simple set, but gets the job done.Came on time, in good conditions and unopened. The tiles have a nice weight to them, are solid, and resist the ocasional mistreatment (such as letting the tile fall off the table) that happens in normal games. They are etched have mostly a nice color to them, except the green, which is too dark. On the other hand, the betting sticks, dice, and wind indicator have a chaper feel to them, being lighter, and ocassionally having excess plastic or paint. The dice in particular are pretty small. Not small enough to up and disappear on you, but we've switched to using normal, larger dice from other games. It doesn't come with a manual or anything to tell you the yaku or how to set up the game, but that's a minor concern. Clear rules for Riichi mahjong are available on the net, and if you're looking into buying a set, you probably have a fair idea of what are the rules anyways.Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase. The lower quality of the betting sticks and wind indicator is not that bad, since they haven broken or anything like that after months of play. 5Uneven tilesSome tiles are noticeably thicker than others, some by over 1mm. I can't give it 1 star though since this is the most affordable and accessible Japanese set on the (US) market and it is otherwise functional and durable, but I will be shopping around for a new set. 2A fine setThis is the standard set for all of your riichi needs. Along with the traditional tiles, it also features four red fives along with the (useless, but still nice) season tiles. Nothing was missing and everything was high quality. The carrying case it comes in isn't exactly a Fendi, but it is quite nice. The only minor problem with this set is that its tiles are entirely devoid of green. The bams and green dragon are painted black. This isn't exactly a flaw (it looks a tad more stylish in my opinion), but that's for you to decide. Other than that it's exactly what you're looking for. 5
